    Thanks for the video, but there is a much easier way to access the filter and its from inside the cabin, next to the seat push the vent cover up and snap out the cover and see the filter. ( NO NEED TO TAKE OUT BACK PANEL FOR 2010-2015 MODELS)

    Dude. You really needed to pull the orange plug to disengage the hybrid system before messing with electronics. In the future just know that you are playing with life and death if you don’t remove it before messing with electronics.

    You can actually clean the filter shown at 6:29 without taking any of that stuff apart. Do it from inside the car with a 13mm socket and extension. Push the seat cushion down to access and remove the 13mm bolt. Lift back the filter cover a bit then remove all the hair, lint, etc. Takes less than five minutes.

    This was helpful. This applies to a 2014 Prius. No need to remove the motor because this model has the filter that he cleaned. Because of this filter, the fan mother will not be dirty. Once you remove the vent that goes from the filter to the fan, you can look inside the fan to see if it is dirty. Mine had no dust or dirt since the filter blocked it all.

    I recognize you wanted to show the most professional version of the repair…but you can vacuum that part by just pulling the plastic back on the passenger side back seat…it’s really a 30 second job. Either way…I don’t hate seeing how everything comes apart…but I imagine some will be intimidated bu that repair by all the unscrewing…when in reality, pulling a plastic piece back and using a vacuum worked for me.

    • @SemperShock
      @SemperShock 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would this work for all prius? Or what year you think this will be possible? To pull the plastic piece and Vacuum.

  • @allisonbramblett3771
    @allisonbramblett3771 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hi! Thanks so much for the tutorial. I will say that I got to the part where you take out the fan before you remove the part with the filter, and I lost a bit of confidence because, well, I don’t usually work on cars. After the side panel was off, I could slightly access the filter itself by dislodging that black part with the filter attached a little, enough to stick my hand in and pull out some of the lint and hair and dust. When this happened, I realized I could go in through the vent in the back seat with a small water bottle cleaning brush, loosen up the junk in the filter and then vacuum it out through that vent. So for anyone with few tools and fear of killing your Prius, this is a quick fix. I had already peaked in at the fan to see it was not dirty.

To erase the message after, I disconnected the auxiliary 12V positive only, for 1 minute and 30 seconds, and then unlock then lock the Orange switch and on the back, and that got the message erased. I have no idea why this service is not in the maintenance schedule.
    The filter in my 120K mile 2014 Prius looked just like the one in this video - a couple of spots of the screen showing. I was able to clean it from the front by loosening the dog hair with a wooden stick (the butt end of a wooden skewer) and holding a shop vac nozzle against the grill to scavenge the hair. It took about 5 minutes after I got things set up.

Even if one of the hv battery modules is faulty ? I'm asking to understand if I have found the problem which is that the fan no working so the battery down for safety.

    Note: I was in a rush looking for a different video, so sorry if he already said this:
    If you only need to maintain the filter, just lift the plastic trim that hides the filter (careful: don't break the clip), or you can even get this outside fitting filter (G92DH-47010) to prevent having to reach in the awkward position.

    Hey guys need help! I have a 2011 with 230k miles and the check hybrid system light came on about a week ago. I reset the light by unplugging the orange pin from the hybrid battery and main and the white wire from the fuse box (I think that’s the main power?) left it that way for 10 minutes and put it all back and worked fine for about 500 miles. Then it came back again and did the same thing but this time only went 10-15 miles before message came back on and after a few more times I didn’t unplug the 2 things and drove with it and every 10-15 miles or so, the message would turn on and off.
    Once the message appears, The car will only use the hybrid battery to move the car and won’t turn the engine on but I figured out when it happens, I turn off the car, leave it off for about 30 seconds and after I turn the car on and press the power mode, I can use the engine power to drive but the message, CEL and occasionally the temp gauge light will flash. It happens every time I start to drive around about 10-15 miles.
    So yesterday, I took out the blowing fan motor from the hv and thoroughly cleaned it which was pretty clogged (never cleaned before) thinking the battery wasn’t getting the air causing the problem, and it drove about 25 miles then the problem persisted. I thought it might be a broken fan but I hear and see the fan running so that’s not it.
    Any ideas about what it can be? Can it be that the fan isn’t working properly?
    Could it also be the 12v battery not providing enough power? It’s never been changed since I bought
    it new and noticed a few things failing like the power mirrors, windshield wipers not working on the first 2 settings but works for the fastest and the headlights seem to be dimmer.
    Also, at times when I start the car whether it’s a cold start or in and out, the whirring at the beginning is louder and the HUD lights take awhile to fully display...
    any advice would be appreciated as I do deliveries for work and need my car working but don’t have the money to buy a new car or a new hybrid battery for that matter.. 😞
    I will try to get a code for when the CEL and message come back on again and post. Thanks in advance guys.

      Not cleaning the motor and duct is usually the cause of why that goes bad.

    Great video! How often would you recommend cleaning this for someone without pets?

      Once every 2-4 years

      @@JaboTheMechanic thanks! I changed our 12v battery the other day on our 2014 prius 55k and decide to go ahead and clean the HV battery fan and duct. It was all pretty clean on ours. We do not have pets and I don't think the original owner had pets either.

      @@ggr1847 That sounds like a wonderful way to make sure the filter is not overlooked. In my 18 years of Prius ownership by far the most common failure I have seen, unless you count tires and wiper blades, is the 12V battery. I have had enough trouble that I bought a cheapo Harbor Freight load tester and test the 12V battery annually.
