427BELAIR 427 That brought back great memories Dr Punch knew when to get that mic out of his face Imiss both so bad but I’m a fan of NASCAR since Richard Petty I’ve been blessed to view so many years of races I cant get enough lol I always wonder what the sport would be like if Dale didn’t get killed! I miss him although Dale Jarrett was my man .
@@dannycoker6439 I wonder about that, too, but I do know one thing; Earnhardt would have been forced to hang up the helmet sooner than he may have wanted. His death was supposedly the catalyst for all of the safety innovations, and that was partially true, but those innovations were soon coming anyway, regardless. Because of pressure from the corporate insurance oligarchy, which has strangled other sports as well. (And do you really believe seat belt laws are out of concern for your safety?) Earnhardt didn't want to run restrictor plates. "Move the grandstands back and let us race," he said. Hell, he refused to even wear a full-face helmet, because he said he could tell exactly where other cars were beside him by the subtle change of air pressure in the cockpit. So could you really see him strapping on a HANS, and buckling into a seat, more like a cocoon, with no peripheral vision?
I remember that day Dale climbed out of his car and he didn't want to speak at all, definitely was very emotional, not only for him but for us true die hard Dale fans as well! Dale knew, as we all did, nobody else could or would ever drive that #3 like he did....can't even imagine the emotions he was going through!
And how the hell does Jerry punch not have a job in nascar, we need these guys still apart of the sport and I dont just mean on TV but in the everyday business, they been there and done it so why not have a guy like him help lead your sport in time of change
@@lilolme69 Jerry was still very much a part of on-air talent for ESPN all the way until the end of NASCAR's contract in 2014. Much better in the pits than in the booth.
If you watched NASCAR in the 80's or 90's, you wish Jerry and Dave Despain would stick around in the NASCAR pits forever. As good at their jobs as their voices were for broadcast. They live in all our memories of NASCAR. Nice that we still have Mike Joy giving NASCAR more than 30 years of service!
Man, I wanted that shirt so bad and I wish they can bring it back...everytime I cut myself while working on a car and getting the job done right, I say at the end "dayum, that hurt so good!" ...lol! But a cut is nothing like what "ironman" went through. Pain and all he was one tough customer and still got the job done! To me, that's the can do attitude our society is missing today...miss you dale! Forever the man, forever a fan!
Jerry Punch is a first class individual I met him in 2007 at Bristol he was in a Tahoe with some guys from ESPN I saw him and said Dr. Jerry Punch can you sign my hat sure enough he did he took time to sign my hat when he was trying to leave the track. I’ve heard numerous stories about how he’s a top notch guy.
I'm not even into racing or Nascar. But as a child I always liked Dale and would watch him a little. I remember the day he passed where I was and what I was doing when I found out what happened. There is something very special about that man. And I've been watching a lot of old clips of him and Richard on TH-cam and listening to people share memories they have with him just good stuff. But what I love about Richard is how he stands with his driver's and really has there back.
I believe I've seen it. But I'll go back and check it out again I didn't realize how bad ass Davey was when I watched it. That's another thing I've realized watching all the old Dale Earnhardt videos there was a lot of great drivers who lost their life to this sport and to hear people say Nascar is Dead is scary to think we would let this sport die. I think that's what makes me want to become a fun and support Nascar is all the men who lost their life for the sport. I'm going to watch the Darlington race it will be the first full Nascar race I've ever watched.
Damn those #3 cars are beautiful...I can almost smell the race shop watching this video. And yes the shop has a smell, I've visited it many times from the 90's to now and you never forget that smell. Someday I will have to post the videos when it was a working shop!
If only people in the world could be more like that today.... Most can't even wear a mask properly to literally save their own life (but their chin will live on). Seems to me that no one has that type of determination these days
So glad Doc brought up just how big of a moment and how important Harvick was and is historically for taking the brightest and biggest torch and carry it and truly propelling the greatest sport forward...
Man I cannot wait until this company gets back on top cause this sport so desperately needs it....this man is one of many who are the true back bone of racing
it's not gonna make any difference - NASCAR or the sport I grew up with in the 70s , 80s and into the 90s is gone and it'll never come back - for 2 simple reasons - These drivers aren't relatable and the "stock " cars they drive aren't attainable for the majority of the rank and file who at one time didn't dare drive a Chevy if you were an Elliott fan or a Ford if you pulled for the 3 car - it didn't happen - now ? it's not even hardly thought about
Not a finer man in the sport, so well spoken! when Doc speaks he speaks from the heart what a treasure you are Dr punch thank you for being who you are GOD bless you SIR!!
Will always remember going into the pits, when you could, back then, and looking at all of the cars. And for some reason that #3 car always looked better than the rest.Weird but true.
Dr Jerry is one of my favorite s its cool to hear him say but it take a smart man to let someone else drive your car and I get a kick that Junior said to Rich u and Dale need to make up and get over your differences an get back together....think about if they d not done that....thanks JP....
I really enjoyed his story about DE. I’m a huge fan of Dale. I’m sad to say that nascar effectively died for me on that February day in 2001. I just can’t watch it anymore. Some of it is because of that day, the rest is because of the stupid rule changes since then. I don’t believe I’ll be back watching anytime soon.
Men like these guys WHO WERE NASCAR not the so called drivers and voices behind giving the low down on pit road, their is a few drivers left but very few the young BOYS haven't the guts, courage, grease on their hands or style like these MEN. NASCAR sucks anymore I almost get sick when it comes on.
My feeling its nothing about teams running now. RCR did great. But even RCR needs the sport. Its Nascar need change back to there roots give teams a chance that not got millions dollars per year. Might need gas money get back home on. If there equipment safe & they make the field honestly put them in it, bounce bigger name team out starting line-up. Not save every spot for big sponsorship's only. That appear going on now. Everybody loves a Underdog. And If they can? Help the small teams out. Then the fans, Think anybody can rake & scrap up enough money buy a used car, Update & reskin it & make the show with Talent & Lots of Hard Work. Then maybe fans come back. Bottom line no fans-no money - no sport. Not enough butts in seats now days. bottom line.
All the years I wacthed Dr Jerry Punch narrate races I had no idea of his accomplishments , good job Jerry.
oh make no mistake - he's aware
Thanks for this, Dr Jerry is a fine person. His call of Dale's last win race at Talladega, with Benny and Ned was one of the best ever

Surprised that he isn't the the chief medical guru for nascar and yes he should be at least in the booth
Jerry probably wanted to slow down in his career. He is pushing 70 and has spent a great part of his life either on MRN, CBS, ESPN, ABC, etc.
