Easy make the whole game about a Japanese samurai becoming assassin or ninja doing his job, have the girl be a rival or she's an ally to help you on your journey on your assassin ways. Change the black guy to a retainer of the warlord or Lord from there you either have to do certain tasks or complete a certain mission a certain way in order to get the black guy to join you and help you attack their Lord by betraying them or they made it to be a hunting hound to get you. If you want bonus points for people make it that as your samurai being trained by ninjas you're upgrading their Base by getting money or resources and you're making information hubs and locations of the map that you get to choose. For example maybe a brothel that you realize a lot of sunrise go through you can make that information hub by having other assassins from your base go in there and collect information from the samurais.
