He and his family lived for several years in Bristol, England. He got British citizenship to represent us at the Commonwealth Games. He was a hero here, always on tv when I was a kid.

I still remember the excitement he stirred New Zealand at the Christchurch Games.
I was actually looking if there was any footage of a memory that has stuck with me of a New Zealand game show where athletes of different disciplines competed against each other doing things that where a combination of all the different competitors combined strengths.
Precious stole the show entirely when the task was doing pull ups on a bar.
A lot of the competitors put in gallant efforts that would make anyone proud, then Precious steps up going hard from the start up and down like a jack hammer and if memory serves me the final telly was 100+

Precious is awesome. I remember as a child seeing him at the Hawkes bay A&P show in the 80s... he was doing a display and my brother n law sat on his back while he was doing sit-ups ☺️

I remember meeting Precious in my hometown Rotorua back in the 80s, he got a lot respect in New Zealand. I met him at a small mall and he was promoting health and fitness. Very nice man, a real gentleman. 💯💪🏾

Interesting fellow. I remember seeing him in the news and on TV as a boy. There's something very distinct about him. Hard to place it but it's there. Dynamic seems to be the best description.

I remember when he competed. Nice to see he is doing well. I would read about him in Strength and Health magazine. There was another lifter about his size back then named Baez.

My favourite weightlifter watching him when I was a child when I was living in New Zealand back in the 70s. Always an inspiration.

Why is there so little mention of England when it was England that gave him a passport, and where he lived and trained for quite a few years, and who gave him the opportunity to leave apartheid South Africa? He was a member of the Northampton weightlifting club for several years. Why are these points not even mentioned?
