THIS IS THE VIDEO I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR! I watched so many videos on this subject that were just confusing and a complete waste of time. You are very thorough, concise and you don't waste any time talking about irrelevant crap. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! x
Awesome thanks for the tips, I had a problem I've now sorted. I was finding that in EOS Utility, my Canon EOS M50 started to pause live feed after around 5 seconds. The flip out screen on the camera was the issue, if I leave it closed I get pauses. If I leave the screen flipped out then it works perfectly. Hopefully this helps someone else.
I'm so glad that the usb cable works between M50 and Ecamm live..much better quality than using the web cam..sometimes there's been a lag in the recording when I'm speaking
Drost Video Hmm, That’s something I’ve not encountered before but I would check the streaming frame rate and then there’s a lag adjustment slider in Ecamms settings. If it’s off a couple frames you can adjust it from one to ten frames to dial it in. See if that works for you!
Great video. I was trying to use my m50 for Zoom meetings and considered purchasing sparkocam or an overpriced capture card. After much research I learned I could use the canon EOS utility software to remove the AF box in live veiw, then use OBS to window capture the EOS utility software's live veiw that now has no AF box, and use an OBS virtual webcam plugin so Zoom recognizes OBS as webcam. It took a few days to work out but it seems like the combination of the EOS utility software and OBS gives you many features that sparkocam does and it's all free with (IMO) indistinguishable video quality.
Colin Holmes Yeah, I don’t think quality from OBS was ever an issue but the hassle of OBS which has a steep learning curve for most and not worth the trouble for most entrepreneurs. Reliability and dependability is huge for my audience and most don’t want to fiddle with OBS, and I get it. OBS absolutely works but for the time it takes to setup and do all the things.. is that the best use of someone’s time and energy or pay for a service that has it figured out - something each person has to decide. Wasn’t worth it for me but I’m glad you found something that works for ya! No wrong way to Go Live!
2:28 I would read the specs on the box and look for the words "data cable" because that's what they call it. Glad I found your video. The canon M50 has been a headache for awhile and kept me from live streaming the way I'd like. Subscribed and definitely signing up for Ecamm through the description! Thank you.
You have truly saved me. Thank you 🙏🏽 just switched platforms for Live-streaming to Twitch and have been struggling with going thru OBS having to find a capture card, damn near impossible and if you can it’s costly due to the times we are in. You’ve made my day with this video. Keep coming out with more content / tutorials so forth. Much appreciated!
I have watched video after video, and you are the only one who even mentions camera settings for shooting live. I think you are saying regular video settings are fine. I would love confirmation. When we record video we have our synchro scan on and the shutter speed is set to angle. What are the better file settings? Should we shoot 1080p or 720p for Facebook Live. Frame rate - 30p? Bit Rate? No one talks about this, so shall we assume that it doesn't matter? Just like regular recording? We do use capture cards. Thank you. I have subscribed.
My pleasure!! ☺️ I prefer to shoot at 1080p 30 frames per second for most videos, especially for live streams. But yes, the same settings I would use for live streaming are the same I would use for a regularly recorded video. The capture card is just sharing that feed in a live stream is the only difference.
honestly this was mad helpful this video is allowing me to do my big stream so thank you so much hope you have a great day and keep making wonderful content got my subscription
Superb. Thank you. I saw your session this week on the Ecamm Go Live bootcamp. Good tutorial here and just what I need to know having bought a Canon yesterday.
That’s so awesome Sarah! Thanks for registering for the session, I hope it was valuable for you! 😊 Streaming with your actually camera is getting so easy these days, it definitely helps just being able to simple use a usb cable.
No worries, I would highly suggest using Ecamm Live if you're on Mac that can go up to 4k, or you can use Canon's Webcam Utility Software that's free for PC or Mac, it's just at a very low resolution.
@@DianaGladney - Thanks for the reply. I have tried to use the Webcam Utility from Canon and I was told it didn't work on Mac either. Has that changed?
Thanks for your video Diana. Your email announcements are very effective. I have tried Sparkocam to use my m50 as a webcam for conference calls (overkill, I know) and to stream in the near future. I liked the picture quality a lot so I will definitely pull the trigger when the time comes. In the meantime I'm playing around with other apps (no capture card and no Sparkocam) with encouraging results.
Alberto Secondi That’s awesome! 💯 It’s only overkill if it gets in the way I’m for you. Otherwise if it works, it works for ya! I am pumped to hear of you getting good results though. That’s awesome!
Yes. I've only had 2 M50s to try it with but it worked fine. Just make sure the USB cable you use is long enough and is good with transferring data so you don't have any delays due to a bad cable.
@@DianaGladney any special usb cable should i use or just to buy usb 3.0 and long enough cable i have to say to seller to buy? Or you can mention a link of flipkart or amazon of the usb cable to use please. And you have not said anything to add multiple dslr with sprkocam is available option or not?
Don’t know about Sparkocam, I only actively use Ecamm Live. The USB cable needs to transmit data. There is a link in the am description for a recommended cable if you need to buy one.
Thank you for this video!! at this time its like almost impossible to find a capture card! haha so this is super helpful! I have a question though.... I recently purchased Canon M50, so with this streaming method does the camera have a specific length of how long it will allow me to stream?
HI Diana, i am not a new subscriber. I was just quiet. Thank you very much for the tips. Getting an ordinary cable to use my M50 for Ecamm livestream was a huge tip for me. From point 0:20 to 0:24 I showed you in my latest video as teaching one of my 25 learnings during the quarantine. 😍
Hi Diana ,, Thank you for the Amazing content you create and put out ! 👍😁 I just ordered the Black Magic Ultra Studio Mini Recorder. I’m planning on using it with my a6500 for live streaming on TH-cam & FB. I’ve also heard the eCamm will be creating more options for a direct USB connection to other cameras. My question is , should I return the Black Magic Ultra Studio Mini Recorder and just wait for eCamm to get integrated with the Sony a6500? Would love to hear your thoughts Thank you
@@DianaGladney That is so cool! Yes your content is very informative and I have seen many channels in your niche and I have to say by far I enjoy yours the most because you are so articulate and explaining what you do. I do have a question, I upload a few times a week and every Wednesday I do a livestream I recently had to let go of my previous camera because I borrowed it from a friend of mine and I’m looking to get a camera that is affordable is easy to do live stream with and lately I’ve been loving canon Would you recommend the M 200 or the M 50content creation and live streaming? I’m so undecided I need some advice on that. Many blessings to you! Do you recommend any other camera ?
So, I took a glance at your channel and I based on the type of videos that you make, there are a few things to consider and you can reply if I'm missing anything for you. Between the Canon M200 and M50 they are two different cameras. The M200 is really basic but is still a great camera. It doesn't have a lot of buttons and does not have a microphone input but does have clean HDMI out for live streaming. The Canon M50 Mark I has a different type of flip out screen, a headphone jack but not clean HDMI out. So, I honestly wouldn't recommend getting either as they're bother missing things you want to easily use for your videos. For the cost of those camera new, you could get the new M50 Mark 2 that has both clean HDMI out and has a bit more options when it comes to buttons and dials. Any 3 of these cameras will have a 30 minute recording limit for regular video content and okay battery life. If that isn't a problem for you and you want to keep it stupid simple and stay with Canon that may be the best option for you. If you want a higher ceiling when it comes to options with your video content and maybe get into some other things over the next 1-2 years, I wouldn't recommend any of the abovementioned cameras because they all have more shortcomings compared to other brands when it comes to video. Let me know what other content you're preparing to create specifically and then I can be more specific with a recommendation.
@@DianaGladney wow great input! Okay that means so much to me that you would take the time to check my channel out. If you were me, what camera would you go for based on what you see on my channel? I typically do two types of video: 1 sit down teaching explaining things 2 livestream I’m completely open to other types of cameras. The camera that I used last time was A6600. Sony is great! I love canon too. But, I’m completely open to what you would recommend. I just want the ease of live-streaming and beautiful video quality. I want to produce good content ! And excellent quality! Hope that makes sense! Looking forward to hearing from you!
Okay, I own that one now and use it almost daily. If you're already used to using Sony, that's exactly what I would suggest because there are more limitations you'll run into on Canon. So, The a6600 is a fantastic option. If the price is a bit much the a6400 is the next best option. Here's the major differences with the a6400: - Smaller battery/shorter battery life (I would suggest a power adapter) - No internal video stabilization (If you plan to vlog or something. If you do, make sure the lens has stabilization.) - No headphone jack Everything else is the same. There is a Sony a6100 but it's no point in really getting it because it has a 30 min recording limit and no picture profiles (if you later want to get into color grading footage) but otherwise all the other features of the a6400. So, go for the a6600 or the next best a6400 and if you need to save some dollars, buy used instead of brand new.
Thank you for this!! I had never heard of SparkoCam until watching this video, and now I can use both my Canon m50 and Canon 7D Mark 2 inside of OBS as a 2 camera setup!
That's awesome! I'm so glad that worked for you! Canon just released the Webcam Utility Beta to work with those cameras too so I wish they had done it a bit sooner lol
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV Their webcam utility is still “beta”. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. SparkoCam is consistent which is good. When the Canon webcam utility becomes stable, I’ll be able to use it in conjunction with SparkoCam to get a 2 camera setup going on OBS. Until then...one camera is better than no camera.
Hi Diana! Thanks for your clear instructions on how to set up a video flow without the 30 min limits. I own a Canon RP and it works fine, BUT I have a question: I am shooting videos up to 2 hours. When using Ecamm Live it seems like the quality of the video is far less good (more grainy) than when using Canon itself and a capture card. I have been looking into the Ecamm Live software, but can't find out where to control that. I have set the Video options in Ecamm to High Quality, H1080 and 25 fps. The size of the resulting mp4 file from the Ecamm is only 1/3 of that from the Canon RP. Any sugestions on how to get higher quality / more detailed videos when using Ecamm? I have been using the Movie mode in Canon. Is it better to use any of the other modes? Does that change anything? Thanks in advance, Bjarke
Oh my pleasure Bjarke! You're in good company with plenty of other questions I've received on the same thing, I literally just uploaded a video to answer that. You can find it here and I share more on the Ecamm Settings: th-cam.com/video/oVsiPf17KmA/w-d-xo.html However, I would say whatever you setting are in your camera, make sure you have also adjust you settings inside Ecamm Live to match that. Things can be off in a normal video if you have a 25fps video and you're editing it as if it were 30fps, you'd notice it not acting properly or trying to slow down 25 or 30fps in a video looks weird. So, we still have to abide by the regular camera settings rules when live streaming with a real camera. Lastly, make sure you have adjusted your settings as well as your lighting. Poor lighting live streaming can still be a problem as it is when recording normal videos and the last last tip lol Make sure you're connected via ethernet vs wifi when streaming. It makes a ton of difference in quality. Hope this helps.
Thank you! 😊 So, based on a list of tested cameras, the Hero 7 didn’t work and no one has an M100 to try and see if it’ll work at moment. Most of the Canon have worked minus a couple but you can get the trial version and test it. That way if it doesn’t work it’s not a waste of money if it won’t work for you.
I have sparkocam and camlink 4k and from my end, it's pretty obvious that the camlink 4k looks superior. The Sparkocam quality is not bad but its definitely noticeable. I only got sparkocam because i heard you need it to get around the 30 minute recording/streaming limit on the M50.
Comparing it to Sparkocam, it’s a very noticeable difference in my opinion, with Ecamm it’s a different story. It’s a couple ways to get around the 30 min limit but it’s several videos on the channel about all that though.
Yep! Lol Canon now has the webcam utility beta I recently did a video on that essentially does the same thing they’re offering it free. It’s still a beta version but it works.
In your description you said if you are using a Canon camera then ECamm live is the best way to live stream. Is that a typo? Did you mean if you are on a Mac? Then Ecamm live is the best way to go? Mac- Ecamm live PC- Sparkocam This cable is necessary in order to transfer photos and videos from your phone to your laptop as well.
Nope, not a typo. Ecamm is the still the best when live streaming with Canon cameras, especially those without Clean HDMI out like the Canon M50 Mark 1. I no longer recommend Sparkocam, it just isn’t worth the hassle for the cost. If you’re not on a Mac, you can use the Canon Webcam utility software they released to live stream with another service like StreamYard.
Hi Diana! I have the USB cable but when i connect it with my computer, the camera doesnt register on the desktop - Im not sure what to do, any suggestions?
Hey Caroline, I would say try a different USB cable. Chances are you may not have a data capable cable. Try like 2 other similar cables and see if one works.
Yep! It’s one linked in the description. It sucks these cables don’t have something written on them to identify it but the one I linked to will work. Some cables charge only, others charge and transfer data, this cable does both.
Thank you! Is it designed for working natively with other conferencing tools, no. If it was it’d be listed as having clean HDMI out to work with capture cards but it doesn’t. So options like these are workarounds to help with that. So, you can activate the virtual camera which will allow other conferencing tools to see “Ecamm Live Virtual Camera” as the camera option and it will pull in your camera feed that way. So through Ecamm you can, but the M50 on it’s own you can’t.
@@DianaGladney Thanks again that makes sense. I have a DSLR but it's not a Canon and I have to route it through an encoder. But then I have video lag from the HDMI. So I was looking for a no-HDMI alternative that works with a DSLR. Ecamm will work, but I hear there's currently an issue with Zoom not recognizing virtual cameras at the moment.
Yeah, zoom did make several updates and because if their leak issue added that in but that’s not a related problem for security. You can download the more secure version of zoom from their site but the one that doesn’t block the virtual camera feature too. I just am Holding off updating again until they do another update to fix the virtual camera being disabled.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful for you! There’s a recent video I did on audio connections with your microphone on the videos tab that show how to use your microphone.
My pleasure Andres! Honestly there's no perfect lens for live streaming but it really depends on what you plan to do with the lens. The easiest recommendation is the Sigma 16mm for the M50 but above that, I would say use your kit lens and see which focal length you commonly use or will use and if that's, for example, about 24mm zoomed in on the kit lens, get a lens at that range. For me, I personally like 35mm for my recording area but that's specific to my area. So, if you have the camera zoom in to where you'd want it to be, shot wise, see what range that is and get a prime lens around that range. That way it's a lens for your area vs a blind recommendation from me online lol Hopefully that's more helpful in finding the right lens size for yourself.
This is my first comment ever on TH-cam. binge watched all your canon M50 videos. Keep going, sis! I’m still a bit confused about the best way to use ReStream, a canon M50 on a Mac to live stream. I have ecamm & stream yard. Video suggestion maybe?
Wow, thanks so much for the comments A C. You actually have more than enough for what you're trying to do. Here's a video that should be able to help with setting up restream with Ecamm Live: th-cam.com/video/RpyO6C9w6UQ/w-d-xo.html
Hi Diana. Great video. It looks like you've moved from Canon to Sony for your main camera. If you were still with the M50, what lens would you recommend for live streaming?
Thank you! If I had to pick a lens for live streaming it’d be based on where my tripod and camera is going to sit in relation to where I’ll be and what I want in the shot. I would take your kit lens and zoom in to the focal length for that and whatever that number is, I’d find a prime lens near that range. But here’s my suggestions depending: If you’re sitting right up to the camera, the Sigma 16mm If you’re sitting a bit further away, the Canon 22mm
My pleasure!! ☺️ Ecamm Live only works on Mac computers since it is a Mac based software so if you're trying to live stream with it, I would recommend one of the other videos I did where you can use something like the Canon Webcam Beta App to live stream with your camera.
Natively inside the camera it can record for 30 minutes and without pressing a button on the camera or tapping on the screen, the camera will go to sleep at 30 minutes. So, if you try to live stream via HDMI on it's own, you have to work around that. There are several videos on the channel, just check the playlists tab, and it's a video that goes into detail on the specifics.
Awesome video great job, just subscribed to your channel 😁Just tried all of this with sparkocam software and usb cable...the quality was awful, couldnt get to record sound, and there was al lag between talking and recording....what would you recommend? Or is literally just to get a capture card?
Well I don’t use Sparkocam so it’s no real suggestions I can provide as to what may be going on. If you’re a PC user consider Canons webcam utility and see if that works for you. There’s a recent video I uploaded about it but I would try that.
hey thank you for this video. I have a cannon m50 and I am looking to do a collab with another youtuber, what do I need to do to record a collab video so the quality a great. I do not want to use zoom bc the quality sucks
So, a few options come to mind. I would honestly look into using some systems that are primarily for podcasting OR the easiest way to bring on the guest using Restream.io and and then your quality doesn’t suffer as much. Honestly with remote guests the Skype quality usually sucks because the guests connection sucks. So they have dropouts or lag if their computer is maxing out while live and mostly they use WiFi instead of Ethernet when streaming. Dropouts can occur with anything wireless though. So unless that person is going to record their footage on their camera and send it to you if it’s not live, its always a potential for the quality to drop.
I was fortunate enough to get the Elgato before the Corona regs came down. I have all the connections to run the Elgato to two different laptops. My question is, will thes work? I've run a single cord to the capture card and from the capture card I have a dual usb cord that I can plug into two laptops. I already know how to broadcast on different platforms, but I want both myself and my wife to have separate platforms up on our laptops so we can respond to questions and comments real time. I know this sounds like alot, but I think you get where I'm goin. Thanks and stay safe!
That Christian Fam If you have Canon cameras and you’re using Ecamm Live, you don’t need a capture card. Just connect it via USB. If you have two distant cameras , one Canon and another some other kind of brand for example use the Capture card on the non Canon camera and a USB cable on the Canon one. You can have both connections running into even one laptop. You don’t need two computers to stream to multiple platforms. Just use a service like Restream.io you can still reply to comments on multiple platforms within Ecamm.
@@DianaGladney well I was just running it via OBS and the Elgato even before this video. I haven't tried any of the apps you suggested as I didn't think I needed to since I have a capture card. I have a dual splitter running from the capture card that can go to both laptops. I was just thinking that would work.
If you're using canon camera you can just download directly the Canon utilities choose your camera model then download it. There's utility v3 now and i used it in streaming 6 hours working fine.
That Christian Fam Yeah, I can’t really speak to any OBS connection’s, I have no experience with it so it’s hard for me to give any advice with using it.
But for me it's better to use aver media if you're on obs i don't actually recommend m50 it runs for 6 hours but you'll damage the camera if you want streaming camera you need to spend more for Sony Cameras but for now we are streaming using Aver Media 1920x1080 resolution and its very satisfying and it will be lighter for your computer. I am a part of Christian Live Streaming so trust me Aver Media less money, less power and it will work better than M50 with Utilities i swear to God and no delays. 👌
I'm doing an updated video since this has opened to other brands as well but I haven't seen the GX8 on the list of working cameras yet. I had the GX8 before and it has similar processing and features as the G85, so I'd say run a free trial of Ecamm and see if you can get it to work. If so, please let me know, I'd love to see how that works for you.
I’ve used quite a few lenses with it actually from the kit lens, 22mm, a 35mm, 50mm 🤷🏽♀️ Lol The 22mm is a very nice small lens and looks great. Nothing to worry about with it honestly. I personally prefer 35mm focal ranges but that’s a personal preference after trying a lot on my camera.
@@DianaGladney Quick questions. I just my M50 and looking to up my game with my educational studio livestreams via my MacBook Pro. Should I go with USB wire and a subscription to Ecamm Live or invest in CamLink4K and hdmi? I am currently using iPhone6 selfie cam. My goal is to get better video quality and add onscreen elements like texts and intro/outro screens during my TH-cam and FB Lives. Your insight would be much appreciated.
Ecamm Live is the way to go especially over the Cam Link for the Canon M50. The m50 doesn’t have clean hdmi out so it’s not worth using with that specific camera.
It's not an on/off kind of thing but having Ecamm live running and connected via USB has the camera read as "busy" so it's not going to shut off at 30 minutes. I've been able to have my camera stay active up to 6hrs, before I got tired, and it still ran fine and didn't shut down. Once you close Ecamm, then the camera will revert back to it's 30 min sleep mode since the camera is no longer "busy".
I had the Panasonic G7 and it does not have a clean HDMI output, which is needed for this method or even with a capture card. Simply put, you're going to have all your settings (that are shown on the back screen) being shown on your video feed to the computer. It will not being a good image to look at. Unfortunately there is no way around it. If you are looking for a budget camera that has a clean HDMI output, look at a sony a6100 on sale. It can go for under $600. Sorry for the unfortunate news, but this is coming from an experienced Panasonic G7 user.
Ethan H That’s good to know! Thanks Ethan! I had the G7 for about a month but I had the G85 for a long time and it had clean HDMI out which was nice. Guess that “dirty” hdmi and 30 minute recording limit was a limitation they added to the G7 for no real reason.Thats too bad!
I honestly have no idea about the Vixia cameras but a lot of the Canon Cameras have worked. I'd say run a free trial on Ecamm Live and see if when you connect it if it works for you or not. If it does, then you can consider possibly investing in it for live streaming for ya!
@@DianaGladney Yes, I downloaded the utility software but it's not the beta. Also, it doesn't freeze when I use my webcam. I just purchased a capture card to see if that helps.
So a capture card with the M50 has its own issues and doesn’t work well but if that’s the Canon utility acting up you can delete it ace reinstall it. Other than that I’d suggest reaching out to their customer service.
OK Coach, this worked for my M50 and T5i. Thank you. Now here’s my dilemma. I ordered the Pengo Capture Card and HDMI cables. Do I need software for that? Should I pay for a Sparkocam lic now or wait for my Pengo?
Well it’s two different methods so it depends. Connecting via HDMI has limitations and I haven’t tested 2 cameras via usb with Sparkocam but I believe it works from my friends tests. It’s up to you what you use but the HDMI route has more limitations with the M50. There’s a video on the channel for that as well. If you’re going to use software, you don’t also need HDMI connections, it’s really just one or the other.
Avni Levy My pleasure!! ☺️ I tried ManyCam about a year ago and it did read the camera but the delay was pretty bad and I couldn’t get it to work well so I left out alone.
Lol 😂 Gotcha. So there’s no way to transfer audio via usb using a mirrorless camera for live streaming. So if you have a camera with clean hdmi natively and using a capture. That’s the only way to transfer audio from the camera live streaming no matter what you use.
@@thegoodthebadandtheugly579 Ah, point taken. I haven't considered that because I never had to use it being a Mac user. I don't know if the Canon app works for multiple cameras or if it's problematic or not. But I've had tons of creators in my community frustrated with Sparkcam and it's definitely not the option. I'd check the latest firmware updates for the software with Canon and if not, the next best thing is look into Ecamm and get a cheaper Mac to run it if you're looking to use the M50 Mark 1 for streaming.
@@thegoodthebadandtheugly579 Yep, that and a lot more. I used Ecamm for years with the M50, especially when it first came out because nobody had a solid solution that'd let you even use 4k except Ecamm Live. If you use the Promo Code: DIANA2MOS at Diana.Link/EcammLive it'll give you a 2-months free trial on it vs the regular 14-day one.
You have earned my subscription and like! I just bought the camera and usb. I'll test it to make sure it works. If it does, I will sing your praises from the tallest mountain top!
Sounds like the m100 doesn’t have any of the connectivity options available on it. I think Canon chose to dumb down the intervals for that camera because it’s no real reason it couldn’t work other than the internal firmware.
Thanks for making this. I asked you about using an outdated T2i last week. Well I got a T6i comin Monday that should do the trick with livestreaming! Thanks so much for your help!
THx for great videos. Do you have any idea on how to get audio from canon m50 into obs? I'm using a røde videomic pro+ connected to my m50, but cannot seem to get the audio captured (and not in zoom, sparkocam, cam link 4k either). Maybe you have allready made a video about this?
Hey there Katja! You actually cannot get audio from the M50 via USB or HDMI. Other cameras that have clean HDMI Out can transfer both audio and video but the M50 does not have that ability enabled from Canon. If you're wanting to have an audio option for live streaming you need to connect an audio source into your computer via USB or the headphone port or something like that specifically. I'll have a video coming out more about connectivity possibilities for audio to help show some other options but it's in the lineup of videos around the corner!
Do you have a video on how to use an external mic for this set up? I have a rode but no receiver pack, just plugs in to the canon. Or i have a sennheiser radio mic. But no matter what i do, zoom/ecamm still seems to take the internal mic...
One is the queue to be edited and uploaded for that specially but to answer your question here, nearly all Canon Cameras, minus probably the Canon R & RP and SL3, don't have the ability to pull the audio from the camera when live streaming. Canon turned that off internally for whatever reason, but HDMI in essence DOES have the ability to pull in both video and audio. If you're working with the M50, this is not possible on this specific camera. You would need to connect your audio either via USB or to use the mics you have, through the 3.5mm headphone jack/mic jack on your computer.
@@DianaGladney Could it, in theory, work if i connected the rode receiver that I have just ordered, to the computer directly then do you think? Thanks for your videos, very useful x
Leandro Facchinetti Lol That was the camera shaking actually lol It was on my second boom arm on my desk and that one is shaky. That’s honestly one problem I’ve never had with streaming via USB with Ecamm. You’re welcome to checkout any streams I have and see if any frames dropped is noticed. I’ve never had that problem or seen anyone experience that. I’d just make sure you’re connected via Ethernet vs WiFi and see if that helps you any.
Well, the video shared a pc and mac option so whatever you decide is your preference. I recommend streaming via USB for the M50 when possible over HDMI but again, it's your preference.
So i've used the EOS Utility app last year to live stream and it worked fine, but I tried to open it up again yesterday to connect to my m50 but it won't seem to connect to the Utility app. But my computer recognizes the camera fine because I get a notification in the bottom right whenever i connect it. I've tried 3 cables also to no avail at this point..any advice?
I’m not sure what would be the reason with the EOS Utility App. The old uninstall/reinstall might help but you don’t actually need that to live stream with this method. If you’re trying to identify which cable will work but you’re seeing your computer recognize it, just try that one. If you open Ecamm it Sparkocam and it’s the wrong cable, it won’t see the camera so that will be another way.
Hi, Diana I have followed all the steps you have shown in your video, the USB cable works well and my M50 appears by ecamm and was recognized in Quick Time and Skipe but not for ZOOM which is the application with which I need to use my M50. I restart ZOOM but nothing change. Can you help me to solve this problem?
Intimately Zoom is blocking any virtual camera connections and any previous updates I had won’t work because Zoom is forcing everyone to update their versions this month. So unfortunately it’s waiting for Zoom to figure out their security issues and Re-enable the ability to access virtual camera connections.
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV do you have some advice to solve this issue? I am Karate teacher and I am using ZOOM for virtual classes. I need good quaility video for streaming the classes
Ok I was lucky enough to have found the usb cable. I’ve downloaded ecam but it doesn’t seem to recognize my M50. Is there some sort of setting I have to change in the camera?
Nope, there's no specific setting you need, but you want to make sure you have a data transferable cable. Some cables only charge and some transfer data and charge. If you have a cable that fits but you don't see the camera, chances are, your cable is a charge only cable. Unfortunately, there isn't anything on the cable to show which is which, you just have to gather some that you have and see which ones work. I usually just grab on old Android phone cable because those tend to do both.
Hello! I have a Canon M50, I downloaded Sparkosoft, and have the USB plugged into the camera and computer. The image shows up in OBS but not Sparkosoft. Any idea what I did wrong? Thanks again love your videos
is the quality hurt by using USB vs HDMI for livestreaming? currently deciding whether to buy the M50 and stream with it because it also has better video capabilities, or the SL3 due to its clean HDMI
I have the Canon M50 and a MacBook Air. I am just clarifying this goes around the 30 minute limit. I record podcasts and need it to go past the 30 minute mark
Are you using a Mac or Windows? I'm asking as I have a MacBook pro with 1T wifi, which should be pretty fast, but I'm still showing delays streaming from eCamm through restream.io on Linkedin Live.
Hey Holly! I actually use a Mac. I have done some streams with Restream but didn’t see any delays. However, I would always suggest streaming using Ethernet, even with fast speeds, an Ethernet cable is almost a must for reliability. Then, check your RAM and see if that’s possibly not high enough (I doubt it would be a problem on a MacBook Pro). Lastly, run your Activity Monitor next time you test your streams and you’ll be able to see what is bottlenecking your system. If you have 8GB of RAM for example and you’re at 7.2GB of usage during a stream or something high, then you can see which programs are running that’s using up a lot of resources on your computer.
You’d have to use the virtual camera feature on Ecamm. If you’re on PC, almost as soon as this video was out Canon created an Webcam Utility option for free. So, you can use that vs Sparkocam and there is a new video on the channel about it.
@@DianaGladney I downloaded Ecamm and did my first live feed with my M50 on my MacBook Pro 16" and I have to say THANK YOU!! it looked absolutely amazing and I could even install a LUT from Davinci. Wow. Subscribed! I'm always in search of stuff with mac and you were the first to have this information.
If you’re trying to live stream with that specific camera model you’ll just need to verify it has clean hdmi out for live streaming and if it does all you need is an Elgato cam link capture card. If it doesn’t, then you’ll need to see about another route to live stream. I’m not familiar with Nikon cameras so it depends on what specifically you would like help with but you can feel free to email me and we can see what help I can provide you.
How do I keep it from freezing and shutting off after 30 minutes? My set up is a Micro USB into the M50 and using OBS as a Window capture on EOS Version 3 with a USB microphone. This works great with my setup but I cannot record past 30 minutes. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!
THIS IS THE VIDEO I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR! I watched so many videos on this subject that were just confusing and a complete waste of time. You are very thorough, concise and you don't waste any time talking about irrelevant crap. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! x
My pleasure!! ☺️ I’m so glad the video was helpful for you!
Glad the video was helpful! Yeah I’m sure your tip will definitely help others, I already shared it with someone just today.
This video totally saved me lots of money and time and couldn’t appreciate it more. Thank you!
My pleasure!! ☺️
I tried this method too. Don't you get 720p output with this method? Don't get that full HD look using your method
2:28 I would read the specs on the box and look for the words "data cable" because that's what they call it. Glad I found your video. The canon M50 has been a headache for awhile and kept me from live streaming the way I'd like. Subscribed and definitely signing up for Ecamm through the description! Thank you.

Diana did it again - thank you!
My pleasure!! ☺️ Glad the video was helpful for you!
I prefer to shoot at 1080p 30 frames per second for most videos, especially for live streams. But yes, the same settings I would use for live streaming are the same I would use for a regularly recorded video. The capture card is just sharing that feed in a live stream is the only difference.
Canon m50 It’s work with StreamYard ?????
Yeah, it’ll pick up the virtual camera but just know Streamyards quality isn’t the best but it works.
Thanks a lot I will check on ecam problem is on ecam guest need Skype right?

Superb. Thank you. I saw your session this week on the Ecamm Go Live bootcamp. Good tutorial here and just what I need to know having bought a Canon yesterday.
That’s so awesome Sarah! Thanks for registering for the session, I hope it was valuable for you! 😊
Streaming with your actually camera is getting so easy these days, it definitely helps just being able to simple use a usb cable.
Nice video. Something odd though. I went the the Sparko website and they are saying that they aren't supporting Mac. Any other suggestions?
No worries, I would highly suggest using Ecamm Live if you're on Mac that can go up to 4k, or you can use Canon's Webcam Utility Software that's free for PC or Mac, it's just at a very low resolution.
@@DianaGladney - Thanks for the reply. I have tried to use the Webcam Utility from Canon and I was told it didn't work on Mac either. Has that changed?
It originally only released for PC while in beta but they’ve sincere released it for both Mac and PC.
@@DianaGladney - Ok. I will try it again. Thanks!
Can i add multiple dslr at same time to go live or for video call with this soft?
Thanks Diana for another awesome video on the M50’s capabilities.

Thank you for this video!! at this time its like almost impossible to find a capture card! haha so this is super helpful! I have a question though.... I recently purchased Canon M50, so with this streaming method does the camera have a specific length of how long it will allow me to stream?
I need answers 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much for this great video! I just bought an M50 and also recently subscribed to Ecamm Live.
That’s awesome!! Congrats on your new purchase!!!

I just ordered the Black Magic Ultra Studio Mini Recorder.
Would love to hear your thoughts
Thank you

Hey I know Joshua Verrers!!! I love your channel! Small world!
Yeah! Josh is a great friend of mine! Indeed it is a small world! 😊 Glad you’re enjoying the channel!
I typically do two types of video:
1 sit down teaching explaining things
2 livestream
I’m completely open to other types of cameras.
Here's the major differences with the a6400:
- Smaller battery/shorter battery life (I would suggest a power adapter)
- No internal video stabilization (If you plan to vlog or something. If you do, make sure the lens has stabilization.)
- No headphone jack
Everything else is the same.
Gotcha! Whatever works best is all that matters!
You can find it here and I share more on the Ecamm Settings: th-cam.com/video/oVsiPf17KmA/w-d-xo.html
However, I would say whatever you setting are in your camera, make sure you have also adjust you settings inside Ecamm Live to match that.
Great job on this video!!! Would this work with a Canon M100 or a gopro 7??
Hello does 70D work? Thanks 😊
Yep!
Awesome 👏 Thanks for your Swift response. Love❤️ your channel will keep watching.
Awesome, glad I could help!
+Prophecy Zone News Yep, 70D should work fine!
@@DianaGladney can u link to those videos? Thx Diana
I would say if you go to the playlist tabs you can go directly to those that you're wanting to watch. It's too many to try and link up.
This is awesome!!!! but< I don't have Mac, do you have a way for windows please?
Mac- Ecamm live
PC- Sparkocam
This cable is necessary in order to transfer photos and videos from your phone to your laptop as well.
@@DianaGladney do you have an example or link for a similar cable? Ive tried all the ones in my home! Thank you! YOU ARE AWESOME!
Yep! It’s one linked in the description. It sucks these cables don’t have something written on them to identify it but the one I linked to will work.
Some cables charge only, others charge and transfer data, this cable does both.
@@DianaGladney bought it! THANK YOU!! I appreciate you so much. Looking forward to learning more from you !
Awesome! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Great video. Is the M 50 designed to be recognized by other teleconferencing apps like Zoom and Teams without having to use other software?
I just am Holding off updating again until they do another update to fix the virtual camera being disabled.
great video. how do i use it with my Canon mic? it looks like it uses the laptop mic :D
Thank you! Glad it was helpful for you! There’s a recent video I did on audio connections with your microphone on the videos tab that show how to use your microphone.
Thanks for clarifying this!
Sure thing!
Hello, Diana! Thank you for this video. What lense would you recommend for live streaming for the Cannon M50?
@@DianaGladney This is so incredibly helpful Diana! You have no idea how much I value your help. I will follow your recommendations and go from there!
My pleasure Andres!! ☺️ Glad to be of service!
Hi! Does it work for other camera brands like Fujifilm?
It works on some, I'll be having a new video on that and cover some of the models that have worked so far. It's not all of them but some.
@@DianaGladney Thank you!
But here’s my suggestions depending:
If you’re sitting right up to the camera, the Sigma 16mm
If you’re sitting a bit further away, the Canon 22mm
@@DianaGladney Thank you very much! I'm deciding between these two lenses now.
lol Decisions, decisions

Thanks for sharing,I'm using a windows PC and am unable to connect with ecamm
My pleasure!! ☺️
Ecamm Live only works on Mac computers since it is a Mac based software so if you're trying to live stream with it, I would recommend one of the other videos I did where you can use something like the Canon Webcam Beta App to live stream with your camera.
how long time was limited from sleep mode ? or can live as long as you want to? thx
@@DianaGladney Thank you!!

hey thank you for this video.
can i use this for Lumix gx8?
I'm doing an updated video since this has opened to other brands as well but I haven't seen the GX8 on the list of working cameras yet. I had the GX8 before and it has similar processing and features as the G85, so I'd say run a free trial of Ecamm and see if you can get it to work. If so, please let me know, I'd love to see how that works for you.
Thank you for the tutorial!
My pleasure!! ☺️
@@DianaGladney And a really fast reply too! Thanks a lot!😁
Sure thing 😊
Nice! It's good that eCamm has this built in. With OBS I have to use the Canon utility, and screen share and crop to use the remote "viewfinder".
Yeah, that’s why I wouldn’t touch OBS with a 10 foot pole lol I prefer simple solutions lol
What lens do you use on your M50? I just ordered the 22mm. I hope it’s okay.
I’ve used quite a few lenses with it actually from the kit lens, 22mm, a 35mm, 50mm 🤷🏽♀️ Lol
The 22mm is a very nice small lens and looks great. Nothing to worry about with it honestly. I personally prefer 35mm focal ranges but that’s a personal preference after trying a lot on my camera.
Super helpful. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure!! ☺️ I’m so glad the content was helpful for you!

Quick questions.
Is there a similar workaround for canon EOS M6?
The M6 was noted to work Emory Ecamm so you shouldn’t have any issues.
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV ok, thx. So I do not need any hardware (link cam 4k, etc)? Just the software from ecamm?
Yep, you only need a usb cable just like in the video!
Really glad I just found your channel. So much value 🙏🏾🙌🏾
Glad you’re enjoying it! 😊
Thank you for dropping this knowledge and helping to understand this more.
My pleasure Shalese!! ☺️
Does ecamm live let you turn off the 30 min auto shutoff?
It's not an on/off kind of thing but having Ecamm live running and connected via USB has the camera read as "busy" so it's not going to shut off at 30 minutes. I've been able to have my camera stay active up to 6hrs, before I got tired, and it still ran fine and didn't shut down. Once you close Ecamm, then the camera will revert back to it's 30 min sleep mode since the camera is no longer "busy".
I'll revisit that video when I'm ready for livestreaming, however, I am not sure if your method will work for my Lumix G7 camera.
Tropical People And Places TV Understood! For the Panasonic G7, you’ll actually need a capture card unfortunately.
@@DianaGladney Yeah, the G85 has some important upgrades for videographers from the G7. Anyway, great video Diana!
Ethan H Thank you Ethan! 💯
Does the autofocus work still using this method?
Yep!
What about a canon vixia hf r800?
I honestly have no idea about the Vixia cameras but a lot of the Canon Cameras have worked. I'd say run a free trial on Ecamm Live and see if when you connect it if it works for you or not. If it does, then you can consider possibly investing in it for live streaming for ya!
My cannon M50 freezes sometimes when I live stream. I'm not using a capture card. What does it freeze?
What software are you using? Is it the actually camera freezing or just on screen for the live stream display?
@@DianaGladney TH-cam and Stream Yard and it's freezing on the screen.
But what software are you using to send the info from the camera to the stream? Are you using Canon’s utility software or something else?
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV Well Coach I did my first Zoom Meeting with my M50 using the SparkoCam and USB solution. I worked great!
That’s awesome to hear! So glad that worked out for you! 💯
Thanks for making an awesome, to-the-point video! Do you know if ManyCam natively detects cameras like the M50 too?
Avni Levy My pleasure!! ☺️ I tried ManyCam about a year ago and it did read the camera but the delay was pretty bad and I couldn’t get it to work well so I left out alone.
@@DianaGladney thanks so much!
Avni Levy My pleasure!
Hey goes it support in camera auto?
Yes, your camera can be in Auto and Ecamm will still work for you.
Thank you so much but i meant to say Audio 😭 my auto correct messed it up
Lol 😂 Gotcha. So there’s no way to transfer audio via usb using a mirrorless camera for live streaming. So if you have a camera with clean hdmi natively and using a capture. That’s the only way to transfer audio from the camera live streaming no matter what you use.
Does SparkoCam for more than one DSLR cam? Trying to use two M50 cams and avoid the 30 minute limit for streaming / podcasting.
Present day, you don't need Sparkocam nor would I recommend it. Canon now offers their own webcam utility for this.
@@DianaGladney I believe that doesn’t work for more than one cam at the same time?
@@thegoodthebadandtheugly579 Ah, point taken. I haven't considered that because I never had to use it being a Mac user. I don't know if the Canon app works for multiple cameras or if it's problematic or not. But I've had tons of creators in my community frustrated with Sparkcam and it's definitely not the option.
I'd check the latest firmware updates for the software with Canon and if not, the next best thing is look into Ecamm and get a cheaper Mac to run it if you're looking to use the M50 Mark 1 for streaming.
@@DianaGladney interesting! Thanks for the advice, will look into it.
Does Ecamm resolve the 30 minute limit problem?
@@thegoodthebadandtheugly579 Yep, that and a lot more. I used Ecamm for years with the M50, especially when it first came out because nobody had a solid solution that'd let you even use 4k except Ecamm Live.
If you use the Promo Code: DIANA2MOS at Diana.Link/EcammLive it'll give you a 2-months free trial on it vs the regular 14-day one.
Unfortunately still waiting for an open source option for Windows.
Precisely why I switched to Mac, Ecamm Live and Final Cut Pro X
You have earned my subscription and like! I just bought the camera and usb. I'll test it to make sure it works. If it does, I will sing your praises from the tallest mountain top!

Lol 😂 Glad to have your vote!
sparkocam aswell it recognizes my camera but doesn't display anything from the canon m100 camera
That Christian Fam My pleasure!! ☺️ The t6i will her the job done for sure! I’m glad I could be helpful!
Love it, great video. I just got the M50
That's awesome! Congrats on your purchase!
Thanks so much for this info
Bobby's Sneaker World My pleasure!! ☺️
One problem I notice with the USB method is frames being dropped. I can even notice some of that on 4:27. Is there anything we can do about it?
Leandro Facchinetti Lol That was the camera shaking actually lol It was on my second boom arm on my desk and that one is shaky. That’s honestly one problem I’ve never had with streaming via USB with Ecamm. You’re welcome to checkout any streams I have and see if any frames dropped is noticed. I’ve never had that problem or seen anyone experience that. I’d just make sure you’re connected via Ethernet vs WiFi and see if that helps you any.
I own a sony cyber shot disc 200, does it work to livestream?
I honestly don’t know. You’d have to test it on a free trial if when connecting it you are able to get your camera to show up.
Thanks thats helpful i will try it out
My pleasure!! 😊
Thank you for the great video:)
A quick question does this solve the 30-min limitation or not? I use Ecamm as well. Thank you in advance!
Thanks Kelly! Yes, it actually does resolve the 30 min time out issue on the Canon. I've gone up to 6 hours and didn't need to touch the camera once.
@@DianaGladney thank you!

Can it use with canon RP?
Hey I don't have a mac so what should I do? I found the cam link online it will be here in a couple of days
Well, the video shared a pc and mac option so whatever you decide is your preference. I recommend streaming via USB for the M50 when possible over HDMI but again, it's your preference.
What of breakings in the live streaming
I honestly can’t speak to that. I don’t know if there are any stability issues with the software.
Just what I was looking for :D thank you so much!

Can you help us how to use this method and use it for Zoom? Is it possible?
Yep! There’s a bunch of Ecamm tutorials I’ve recorded that will be dropping starting next week!
Hi, Diana
I have followed all the steps you have shown in your video, the USB cable works well and my M50 appears by ecamm and was recognized in Quick Time and Skipe but not for ZOOM which is the application with which I need to use my M50.
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV thanks a lot Diana
Sure thing!
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV Rodger that! Thanks!
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV found another cable and it works! You are the Whoaman!
Lol I’m glad you found a cable that worked! Lol Now just mark those that do and it helps not having to search for the right cable later on.
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV I’m trying to get this to work with zoom. Will it work or should or do I need a video capture card? Thanks for the help!
Hello, EOS utility doesn't give me the "remote shooting" option when i connect my Canon m100
I’d say look at the manual online from canon and see if your camera works with that specifically, it may not which is why it’s doing that.
@@DianaGladney okay let me that, thanks
Hello! I have a Canon M50, I downloaded Sparkosoft, and have the USB plugged into the camera and computer. The image shows up in OBS but not Sparkosoft. Any idea what I did wrong? Thanks again love your videos
Unfortunately not, I don't use Sparkocam I just mention it as an option.
Have you done an update for this with the M50 MkII?
Nope, the older channel content only covered the Mark 1.
So I tried the sparkocam app and the audio isn’t working, any idea why that might be ?
You will need to send audio through an external microphone. Like a usb mic or something.
Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV Thank you!
Sure thing!
is the quality hurt by using USB vs HDMI for livestreaming? currently deciding whether to buy the M50 and stream with it because it also has better video capabilities, or the SL3 due to its clean HDMI
Actually just did a video answering that: th-cam.com/video/oVsiPf17KmA/w-d-xo.html
does this only work with canon camera... it does not recognise my camcorder for some reason....
I know Ecamm Live will work with other brands of cameras but I’m not sure about a camcorder though.
I have the Canon M50 and a MacBook Air. I am just clarifying this goes around the 30 minute limit. I record podcasts and need it to go past the 30 minute mark
Yep! You record using Ecamm though not pressing the record button in the camera. Go for as long as you want!
And do'nt forget to get a calbe powered battery for the M50, I have the same issue haha.
This is a great video! Perfect for these times.

how do I route this feed into ZOOM?
You’d have to use the virtual camera feature on Ecamm. If you’re on PC, almost as soon as this video was out Canon created an Webcam Utility option for free. So, you can use that vs Sparkocam and there is a new video on the channel about it.
@@DianaGladney I downloaded Ecamm and did my first live feed with my M50 on my MacBook Pro 16" and I have to say THANK YOU!! it looked absolutely amazing and I could even install a LUT from Davinci. If you’re trying to live stream with that specific camera model you’ll just need to verify it has clean hdmi out for live streaming and if it does all you need is an Elgato cam link capture card.
