    Being born 1976, i was of a good age to grow up through the 80's and i would love to be there still. I have 2 children now and i feel sorry for them as the world is now a hollow shell and fewer people say hello to you in the street. 80's forever when movies were corny and well odd, but they had the ability to make you feel euphoric when the karate kid wins the tournament or the starship music kicks in in mannequin. 80's music just makes you feel alive.

    Admitably, I was simply born in 86 yet came to love the music from my birth decade. People like Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys and Duran Duran to me have more musical talent then any of my generation.

    Damn! I drank with this guy when he said he had a new song!! I asked him what he was going to call it and he said, "I don't know... New Song or something". It was 1982, I was just about 20 and he was a few years older than me (but looked younger!!) a mature student from the Royal Northern College of music which about 150 yards up from the Student Union Building which was opposite Manchester Polytechnic right next door to where the old BBC Oxford Road used to be where they showed the famous, 'Oxford Road Show" He used to rant on about his new Moog synthesiser he had called a memory Moog and for some silly reason he ended up with two of them which I've just noticed he had in the video of that song..
    The next year after in 1983 I was in my year out at Wythenshawe College about 6 miles away and lost contact with him but when I stared work at Bonar Instruments for a year out in Industry this song hit the charts. It just didn't twig in my mind that it was Howard!! But when I saw now, 32 years later that he named it, 'new song' I was amazed. I would love to meet up with him again but I'm sure he's long gone into obscurity, secluded in some remote mansion somewhere.. Such is life. They were truly the best of times!!!

    • @ChasD
      @ChasD 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +quantumellon Howard has in no way long gone into obscurity! Though he's no longer in the mainstream charts (not that it matters - these days it's full of worthless, talentless manufactured pap), he's still very actively involved in music. New album ("Engage") was released early last year, and he continually tours both the UK and the USA. He also sounds just as good now as he did then. He's also a lovely guy and puts on a great show.
      Love your anecdote of meeting him just before he got his first hit btw!

    • @AlainCorona
      @AlainCorona 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Chas D Agreed! I think he actually might still be touring. I wish I could sit down with Howard and get a more in depth explanation of the lyrics. I kinda get what he means but I can't help wonder how much deeper into the abyss those lyrics go into. :)

    I don't know why so many people want to go back to the 80's...I spent most of them utterly depressed in a borstal-like boarding school in rural NZ with no technology or computers. NOW is better. This is the best song ever by the way.

    It was the Polytechnic of Central London - and we had media and film studies with TV and film studios on campus. I actually studied in the dubbing department with John Price (Audio). It was one of the best times of my life!
    Such a valuable and enriching time. This resulted in several qualifications, theoretical and practical in multi-media, journalism and media media production resulting 4 years later in a BA.
    Heading for a career in radio, I turned my love of music and production skills to DJing and working for myself - which was quite successful. I went on to sound tech for various bands around the U.K (none internationally known), and travelled abroad for a time DJing. Video production came, then of course the digital age, something this old analogue boy tries hard to get his head around, ha!
    I retired early from a diverse working life and I am currently enjoying putting together some TH-cam channels for history presentations, the usual 'how to' videos and local news and event coverage- all this low key and purely for fun.
    I have done voiceover work too. I have never seen it as work. Something I have enjoyed as I am one of those creative types, without being too clever, haha!
    I enjoy learning languages as a side track and speak fluent English and Spanish and I am currently studying Polish. Not easy for English speakers and more a challenge to keep the brain from seizing up, lol! (Seized up and left the building years ago!)

    2pm on a hot August afternoon, so hot you can smell the boardwalk at Wildwood NJ frying under you! The smells of pizza and cotton candy, the mechanical noise of the amusement piers, the seaguls and waves in the background, and a Howard Jones song blaring from a boombox on the beach or from one of the storefronts on the boardwalk. Howard Jones interrupted by "WATCH THE TRAM CAR, PLEASE!!"
    Time's up - you're back in 2010. :(
