The first time I viewed one of your videos, I was hooked. I hope that every rare finch that comes to aviculture, comes to you. I also hope that there are ten other breeders like yourself. We need to domesticate these special birds, so we never lose them.

Thank you very much- there are very dedicated and much more experienced aviculturists all over the world quietly going about their conservation work, I am just a hobbiest, but doing my best!

Oh wow An they are all stunning little birds, huge congratulations. I hope they will all be healthy for you after their long journey. They couldn't have gone to a better home! The Violet -eared Waxbill's are so pretty and I LOVE their song, so beautiful to sit and listen to. And I love how tame they are. But I also love the Black -cheeked Waxbills, they are so cuddly with each other. Not to mention all your other little babies you have bred too, so many stunning little bundles of fluff. As you know I have watched all your videos, but I think this has to be the most exciting, yet.... Enjoy your new babies, and I can't wait to hear how they are settling in, when you next get a chance to share another video.

Wow! That's quite an impressive collection of rare finches you have acquired ...
I've been aware of the black cheeked waxbills, but have never seen one. So I looked them up in my big estrildid finch book and they seem quite interesting.
Here are some fun-facts I've found:
    - they like to eat fruits and blossoms (for their nectar and pollen)
    - they like to sleep in abandoned nests (which is rare for an African estrildid, i think)
    - they like to build their nests in thorntrees/acacias or dense scrubs
    - their nests are said to have very long tube-like entrance
    - they often build and decorate roost nests on top of their actual nests
    - they are brood hosts for the steel-blue whydah
    - sprouted and half-ripe seeds seem to be the most important food for their chicks (even before insects)
    - the chicks might beg in "stealth-mode" for the first 8-10 days
    - they are said to be very sensitive to checking their nest and might abandon their chicks
So I'm looking forward to see how they develop in your care!
(hope one of these fact will help you out!)

Sounds like we have some of the same books- but a couple facts I was not aware of- thanks!! They are delightful birds and I hope to share more about them as they get a chance to show their true character

Thankyou, these birds were imported from Europe. I know the black-cheeked waxbills came from Belgium but I do not know where the Violet-Eared are from.
