    Hello and thanks for this demo. I am a newcomer to SharpCap and have not tried live stacking at all. I was wondering about the file format for the "Save Image." Is a PNG as versatile as a TIFF as far as post processing? Thanks!

      You're very welcome. Theoretically PNG and TIFF are roughly equivalent. Usually I prefer PNG because it seems more robust; TIFF is more "flexible" in the format, but that means it is sometimes implemented and treated differently by different software, and that can make it brittle, where TIFF files written by one piece of software cannot be read properly by others. I've never seen this with PNG. However, as I recall, I believe the PNGs written by the SharpCap solar system live stacker are restricted to 8 bit rather than 16 bit. Usually for bright objects this is not too much of a problem, unless you plan to stretch the image very hard (for example to bring out the terminator on the Moon). If you've used the Display Stretch to do this before saving, it should not be an issue. If you have not used the Display Stretch, and plan to stretch hard in post, TIFF may be better.

    Great video with lots of info given and a good shout out to Robin Glover for this great addition to Sharpcap . Can you only do this with a Ser file? I tried following your actions given and tried to load an Avi by going to the browse and load the file but it didnt work, it still only showed the Jupiter image.

      You test this with a SER file or a still image (see the Testing Controls to add random offset, noise, seeing, and channel offsets). You want to be in the RGB32 color space though for all of that to work properly.

    Q. While live stacking how does the software exactly compensate for rotation? Does it eliminate the need for winjupos ?

    • @michaelpowen
      @michaelpowen  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does not compensate for rotation at all. If you set the stack length too deep, you will definitely start to see smearing or elongation moons. It definitely does not eliminate the need for WinJUPOS in post if you are trying to up your SNR by stacking longer than ~3 minutes on Jupiter.

    I tried doing this but when I turned it on the planet I was looking at didn't freeze and start stacking. Any help?

      I'd need more information. Can you shoot and post a video or screen capture that shows the problem?

      @michaelpowen I'll try when I'm able but that might be upwards of two weeks at least

    Michael, It's too bad it doesn't support MAC OS.

      There are a number of ways of running Windows software under macOS. It probably doesn't make sense for Dr. Glover to support an entire second operating system when there are options available already.
