Had to stop the video and check the date. Thought I got hold of an old video. Your opening comments call the updated device a Roku Ultra 2014. Threw me for a loop until I realized it was just a verbal 'typo.' Otherwise, good review and thanks for the info. 🤣
I see what your problem was with the voice commands. It says that your battery level is at 0% and then immediately after says it's unable to receive audio from your remote. That's because the battery is almost dead. Charge the battery lol!
I actually prefer dedicated devices such as this as it allows easy upgrade from older models.
Smart TVs are a worse upgrade as you are stuck with it longer 😢
My Roku Ultra I got in 2019 still performs very well. I may be tempted to upgrade to this if there is a significant sale on Black Friday though.
@Luke, I would actually prefer a remote without presets. I generally don't use the services they were meant for and don't want to mistakenly launch one of them.
People pay for those presets they help keep the costs of the Roku down.
I totally agree 👏🏼. It would be nice though on the presets if they were stickers that could be removed. And the buttons reprogrammed to open Pluto, Amazon, Movies anywhere, or Philo. And you could make your own stickers for the buttons. Stay safe healthy and happy ✝️🇺🇸🦬
Yes, but a lot of people use those services more than that like Netflix and Hulu or whatever so they are a nice convenience. I know not for you but to eat his own.
Did anybody else notice he made an error? He said 2014 at the opening remarks of this episode
Yep
That was a hat tip to back to the future
Wow, i want his job. He is as bad as the illegals stealing our jobs and getting free chartered flights round trip to their country!!!
Yeah lol
I still have the Roku Ultra LT from a couple of years ago when Walmart sold them fir $30 on a Black Friday. It works great! I actually have the original Roku Pro rechargeable remote. I might consider the new Roku Ultra 2024 in the future especially if it goes on sale later this year.
Is this worth buying if I already have a TCL Roku TV?
Hi, is there any incentive buying directly from Roku or can I get it quickly off Amazon all for the same price? Thanks great videos
I just bought the $99.00 Streambar SE and love it which is this years model
Is it worth upgrading from previous version?
I rather pay a few dollars more and get faster experience and no ads on my Home Screen. Plus supports Gigabit.
For which device? Apple TV?
I literally ordered the 2022 ultra like the day before the 2024 model was released 🤦♂️. I had no idea they were about to release a new version. The trade off for me, why I’m not returning it for the new model is the new model dropped the headphone jack on the remote.
I’m still using and happy with my 2018 Roku Ultra. Is there any compelling reason to upgrade? I could buy the new remote itself for $25.
Doesn’t Wi-Fi six only improve the speed in a more limited area and does not actually give better coverage? Similar to 2.4 versus 5
1:53 - That looks to be a USB-A port, not USB-C as mentioned.
Great review of the new roku ultra 2024
You say that the Ethernet port is capped at 100 down. Question is if I hook up via WiFi 6, would I get faster than 100 down? My home WiFi is way faster than 100.
Yes. Assuming you get a good signal, wifi6 can be a lot faster than 100 mbps
My newest roku is already internally installed in my new tv & so far, so good. But I do have a question about the roku stick. I have 2 tvs with them & recently both roku sticks stopped working. I've had the sticks for about 5+ years. They won't even open to the home screen at all. s there anything I can do for them to work again? Or are both roku sticks dead for good?
Did you check the speed of your WiFi connection by chance? I’m seriously considering pulling the trigger on one of these things
Would it be beneficial to have an item like this to stream apps and live tv compared to just using a middle of the line smart tv? I’m new to streaming everything, I just cancelled my satellite service
What would be the more stable device (least amount of freezes, crashes, hangs) this or the new Google Streamer?
I've never had freezes crashes etc with rokus. LoL google stuff does that?
My remote has been charging, new right out of the box before setting up the box itself or pairing first, for over 12 hours and it still keeps blinking??!!!!!
Why won't it complete charging??!! Roku states it takes 5.5 hours to do a full charge.
Luke, did you buy your new Roku locally? I was wondering if Walmart had them yet. I'm in Michigan as well.
More than likely Roku sent Luke the new model to review.
@@amazingeric97 They did but he bought one somewhere before he got it.
@@ThraxMan84 It sounds like Luke got fast shipping from Amazon.
I got same day delivery from Amazon.
How long does it take Roku to roll out os 14? Don’t have it on my 2022 ultra yet?
The rechargeable internal battery sounds great. My Roku's remote eats batteries like crazy. I put batteries in it every month. It's getting expensive. I may buy this new model.
@trr5291 it sounds great until it stops taking a charge and then you gotta buy another $30 remote instead of a $2 pack of batteries
@DerekEvans1013 I've probably spent more than $30 for batteries since I've had it. My Roku tv doesn't drain remote batteries. Just the Roku I have on an old TV in my bedroom. Or maybe I'll just buy a cheap smart tv for the bedroom and ditch the Roku streamer.
@@trr5291 I have a Fire Tv...it's nice
When you watch Prime and there are previews, the roku takes quite a while to catchup. So I need gigabit internet. On my apple TV device with gigabit ethernet I get no waiting for those previews. 10/100 is just to slow these days.I have wired internet though out my home.
Just use wifi 6
Will have mine Friday 9/27
I currently have the previous version of the Ultra. I connect via Ethernet. Will the new processor in the 2024 version make a difference for me when it comes to loading apps? I am not worried about the new WiFi 6.
They say 30% faster than the previous version which probably in the real world means 15% so my guess is you would never know the difference
That's also a "USB 3 (3.0)" port, you called it a "USB-C" port, just figured I'd point that out.
Ops !! You Said 2014, I Believe It Is 2024 !!!!!! LoL , Lol
Does it fix DirectTV's well known chronic audio issues on Roku??
Set up the voi e remote first in settings
Or charge the battery. It showed a message saying the battery was at 0%
Does it support PGS subtitles for PLEX mkv files? Past versions have not.
Nice ❤
The Roku Ultra 2024 without a doubt has at least as much storage as the Roku Ultra 2020. you shouldn't have to reload the apps more than once unless they are updating
you should find out.
Can you use Bluetooth headphones with the new ultra? Thanks 😂
Yes.
Yes you can
@@Dreamer5211 yep
Is it Wi-Fi 6E or just 6. Wi-Fi 6 is a slight improvement.
The true advantage of wifi 6 (AX) is that it communicates with the router uninterrupted. All previous versions had to take turns talking to the router.
@@jonnysixgun Wi-Fi 6E is the real advantage. WiFi 6 uses the 5Ghz spectrum. Bla.
Does this finally support 1 Gbps Ethernet? My 2020 Roku Ultra only supports 100 Mbps. This makes a difference when attempting to stream an Ultra-HD Blu-Ray, as the streaming video is often ~125 Mbps. This would be no big deal if it supported 1 Gbps but it fails when limited to 100 Mbps.
He states early in the video it's STILL 100Mbps. Which should be a deal-breaker for anyone wanting to use a more stable and reliable Ethernet connection.
You first need to speak: Hey Roku.
Before you can give it commands.
Phone app for remote is very nice
Thank you for this great review.
Has anyone tried both a Ethernet connection and WiFi connection? If so, what did you find? Which did you find better?
Wifi will be better with a wifi 6 router
You know you said brand new Roku 2014. It’s 2024.
Two very disappointing features: it uses A.I./machine learning, which a majority of the world absolutely hates. The ethernet connection is still capped off at 100 mbps. These two problems alone are very disconcerting and frustrating.
100M Ethernet is simply unacceptable for 2024, let alone 2014. Especially considering this uses WiFi 6. Can't even assume there's any meaningful cost savings. There's simply no excuse when 1000M has been the standard for home networking equipment for literal decades. And 2.5G is quickly becoming a requirement for anything labeling itself 'Ultra' for the enthusiast market. For comparison, the NVIDIA Shield came out almost 10 years ago, and had Gigabit Ethernet THEN.
The 'streaming' excuse is null and void since you can download apps within the Roku ecosystem that would benefit from more bandwidth on a more stable and reliable Ethernet connection. 4K Plex streaming as a glaring example. Such a shame.
You’re seeing the benefits of a faster processor, not the benefits of Wi-Fi 6.
you launched youtube tv on my system.
OK, so how much?
Why would it be a 2014?
I have two Roku ultras that are lessed then two years old, I have them for Dolby vision/Atmos use and they do what they do. I'm wondering if I'd see a noticeable difference with getting a new one. I also have a Nvidia shield pro and the apple TV 4k and they all do something a little different but I always go back to the Roku because of the audio past though. Recently Disney plus just enhanced the DTS:X for the IMAX enhanced but my Roku ultra does not seem to be decoding it, if the new release will decode DTS:X IMAX enhanced I'll have one by weeks end.
Hey roku 1st
This is a non-starter without Thread & Matter support, here in 2024.
Why would a media streamer need matter or thread? It’s not a smart home hub just a content streamer
Thanks!
Thank you!
Gets the year wrong in the first 5 seconds of the video.
Anybody who would still trust Roku or give them money needs their head examined.
I just got the new Roku ultra for my 7 years old TCL ROKU TV which got very slow but with new box it’s like brand new tv . But i tried to connect to my 5G network but it didn’t connect . Only 2.5 GHZ working ..

Won't purchase until they support TH-cam TV.
Roku does have a TH-cam TV app.
Nice! Dont forget to agree to the non arbitration 😂
yep and ads, including ads via hdmi or whatever the patent is.
