When I hear the term "Live TV" I think of material that cannot be paused, as is the case with the 30 free-to-air digital channels in Australia. These channels can be received with an old-fashioned antenna on the roof. No streaming service is needed. Yes, some services rebroadcast them using set-top boxes, and they can then be paused. I use a streaming service with everything you could possibly imagine for $2 a day. They are in the Amazon App Store, Google play store and the IOS App Store. The Roku and Apple TV apps are being released in the coming weeks.
I use a lot of the freeware strreaming services, my favorite is Pluto (I am a Star Trek junkie...) plus, going back to using an antenna for local channels I discovered that my local PBS station runs several dotX sub-channels (it is channel 2 and also 2.2 and 2.3) channel 2.2 is the Create network which is my default channel now.
on my year old Bravia...its showing as "Free TV" with a horizontal scroll...but if I click on the "Live" option at the top of my home page it gives me a guide similar to what he's showing here...don't know if their going to change things around or if it's a different experience for people with different operating systems.

Sadly, the automated copyright system is very unforgiving. And can get your channel deleted very quickly. No humans review it. It's all done automated nowadays.
Right now, I have two Samsung TVs and two Rokus so I can't access this service. However, I've been thinking of upgrading my "tiny" 82" living room TV to a 98" or 100" Mini LED QD TV from TCL or Hisense. Since TCL and Hisense use Google TV, if I do decide to upgrade I can give FreePlay a try.
I would like a service that truly streams LOCAL channels with all its programming, don't understand grab it out the air and its free but wired it costs you 60-90 bucks with crap loaded into it.

I really want live local tv. This google tv doesn’t have what I want, so it isn’t doing any good for me. Looks like google tv has a lot of useless channels, I’ll pass on this.
Like someone else said get an good Antenna, preamp, and a 4G LTE/5G line filter, and stop complaining it's not hard to do, as well over 90-95% of the US can pick up local channels with a proper antenna setup that's only a small one time cost.
A good chunk of it is, but there are some free weather, and news channels if someone really wants it. Plus many people do like watching that old stuff as Pluto TV, has had a large viewership for years, and Tubi is the 5th largest streaming provider out there.
Whoopee! Yet another "free" cornucopia of broadcast TV on steroids--with all those disruptive "free" ads, delivered loudly at the broadcasters' convenience--not yours. All the things that made it worthwhile to pay for a few channels that deliver enough movies worth watching, commercial free, when I want to watch them.
You Harry Potter, you gotta pay, they don't put their stuff out for free, and Shout Studios has the original Japanese versions of Super Sentai for free on places like TH-cam.
@@bobbyk9815 It's not a stupid name it makes perfect sense as Shout Studios owns the US rights to Super Sentai, as well as many other Japanese programs/movies, it is called "Tokushoutsu" which is a play on Tokyo, Shout, and Su which is a Verb in Japanese, and means to do, or occur depending on how it's said, as the tone/volume of your voice can make a word mean different things in Japanese speaking culture.
From what I see this is a useless option. Most of the channels are of no interest to the average viewer. Where are all the live major network stations? Where are ghe live sport's networks? Exactly, not there..Useless
There is news on The Roku Channel, but why in the world anyone would actually want to listen to the propaganda that is CNN is well beyond me!! This is not a free service, I clicked on it and it offered a $13 for the first month and $79 monthly thereafter, so where is the "FREE" service for a bunch of unknown channels
Yep a good chunk of them seem to be the same channels on other services. but if it's built right into the a new Google TV/box then people don't have to install anything else to get them, for example I was helping my brother yesterday clean his place up after an accident that left him unable to walk for a long time, and still with limited mobility, and he didn't know about any of the free streaming services on his Roku stick, or Fire TV, and had not updated the Fire TV in years!!(both his remotes still have PSVue buttons on them) I had spend the afternoon just updating his Fire TV, and showing him what it could actually do, and clean up all the junk preinstalled from both the Roku, and Fire TV. So there are a lot of people out there like this sadly.

Is it really that easy for TH-cam to penalize someone for showing a 2 second clip?
Sadly, the automated copyright system is very unforgiving. And can get your channel deleted very quickly. No humans review it. It's all done automated nowadays.
The decent apps that work well are not on Google Play ....... they are on private websites and joining a decent forum will put you in the know.
I didn’t see it in the App Store
@@ThraxMan84 You won't, it's just part of the GoogleTV OS update process
Not on Firestick?
No Google puts it's stuff on it's own Chromecast boxes, and others who use their ecosystem like ONN. I don't get why people can't understand this??
It doesn't come up on my menu on my Samsung TV in a search. Nor on my fire stick.

I cannot find Freeplay on my Firestick.
Only thing in life that is free is air and rain water.
Is this new Goggle Free tv like Plex?
All TVs ain’t created equal no matter how cheap they are
I would like a service that truly streams LOCAL channels with all its programming, don't understand grab it out the air and its free but wired it costs you 60-90 bucks with crap loaded into it.
My service has local channels included.
@@mrstlavery what service is that?

I have Googlecast and it can't "see" Googlefreeplay ...
Google? You mean the company that will enter you through any portal you don't even know you have and bury itself in your brain? Keep IT!
For you to get a 32 inch screen tv for 800.00 must have been a high end Samsung or Magnolia brand tv. I paid 86.00 for my tv in 2011. Yes it still works the same today.
Not live TV.
Samsung was first years ago
its not on my roku
Well yeah, that's because it's not a Google TV OS device like a Chromecast, ONN TV box, or Smart TV w/Google TV OS installed on it. He made this very clear in the video. 🤦♂
Not free if you're based overseas unfortunately
Not available on Roku ?? How come ?
Because it's GOOGLE that why they are putting it on their own ecosystem to promote their Chromecast dongle/boxes/TV's. and ones who license from them like Walmart's ONN brand. It's not hard to understand this, it's all marketing. 🤦♂
@@CommodoreFan64 - well excuse me ! Sorry I inconvenienced you.
@@catbriggs4774 Trust me, if it was an inconvenience to me I would not have bothered to answer you, It just amazes me how people don't bother to full listen to a video, and comprehend it, when it's plainly explained, or bother to do 1 min of research on a topic themselves for other sources.

Can you access it on Roku?
This is for Google TV devices only, he clearly stated this in the video, it's not like you have Google assistant on Roku.
@@CommodoreFan64 Thank you - I am brand new at streaming 😊
@@tammieprintz3975 anytime, and on my main TV I have both a Roku 4K stick, and an ONN 4K box so I get the best of both, as they're not very expensive, plus after the ROKU & TH-cam TV fight a few years back it showed me not to rely on a single platform. I also have a desktop PC running Manjaro Gnome Linux attached to that TV as well for even more choice along with an indoor OTA antenna setup with amp/4G filter
Once you get used to it, streaming is THE way to go! Since you can't get Freeplay, give Pluto TV a try - LOTS of free channels there for your interests
Google will rename it 8x and then will disappear it all within a few years.
I really want live local tv. This google tv doesn’t have what I want, so it isn’t doing any good for me. Looks like google tv has a lot of useless channels, I’ll pass on this.
Get an antenna.
Like someone else said get an good Antenna, preamp, and a 4G LTE/5G line filter, and stop complaining it's not hard to do, as well over 90-95% of the US can pick up local channels with a proper antenna setup that's only a small one time cost.
It's all BS. The FCC needs to stop these BS companies from saying, Live TV. By law, I believe they have to show live New's and weather.
Not that interesting the channels🎉
Its just channels showing old stuff that no one wants to watch anyway.
Programming for brain dead people.
I just wanna say another question is this does it have any Power Ranger content or anything or Harry Potter or anything? Please let me know.
You Harry Potter, you gotta pay, they don't put their stuff out for free, and Shout Studios has the original Japanese versions of Super Sentai for free on places like TH-cam.
I don't know about Freeplay, but I have seen a Power Rangers "channel" somewhere. Not sure if it was Pluto, Tubi, Roku...something with a stupid name.
What are you, 5 Year's old. GTFOH
From what I see this is a useless option. Most of the channels are of no interest to the average viewer. Where are all the live major network stations? Where are ghe live sport's networks? Exactly, not there..Useless
I agree, these channels are a dime a dozen. It's not Live TV. I don't care if the New's and Weather is.
Does Roku have a similar app? I want to watch live CNN
Said no one ever
There is news on The Roku Channel, but why in the world anyone would actually want to listen to the propaganda that is CNN is well beyond me!! Also just about all the news channels have some bias, and you should be looking up independent sources, and doing your own research, otherwise you're sheeple, and that's just SAD!!!
CNN is cable
@@georgewatson6622 they have a free version on Pluto TV, and a TH-cam channel but it's not the normal live feed, again why anyone wants this trash that's not an NPC is beyond me.
Yep same old shity reruns as Pluto TV Tubi and all the other of those so called free streaming services
This is not a free service, I clicked on it and it offered a $13 for the first month and $79 monthly thereafter, so where is the "FREE" service for a bunch of unknown channels
not fair not on apple tv rrr
@@joe10117 then get an ONN 4K box for 20 bucks, and add it to your setup. Apple to me is just overpriced shinny BS with limited features.
Always say new free channels with 150 in the same channels that are on everything else right
Yep a good chunk of them seem to be the same channels on other services. but if it's built right into the a new Google TV/box then people don't have to install anything else to get them, for example I was helping my brother yesterday clean his place up after an accident that left him unable to walk for a long time, and still with limited mobility, and he didn't know about any of the free streaming services on his Roku stick, or Fire TV, and had not updated the Fire TV in years!!(both his remotes still have PSVue buttons on them) I had spend the afternoon just updating his Fire TV, and showing him what it could actually do, and clean up all the junk preinstalled from both the Roku, and Fire TV. So there are a lot of people out there like this sadly.
BS...Fire tv has no download option for a Google Tv Freeplay app....
