Alright, so this was meant to come out yesterday, but I had an absurdly busy week, so here it is with all the grammar mistakes and me abusing the dramatic pause at every opportunity. Enjoy :)
I wonder how you feel about this video now that we’ve seen some of Wandavision. She still hopes. Her perspective is being tested full throttle rn. I am smitten by this video. I love your music and the messages. Great thesis amazing words. I tested up three times. I haven’t finished the video and I cannot help but comment
Actually Wanda and Vision have the same dillemma Nat and Bruce have during Age of Ultron. All of them see themselves as a terrifying monster(or robot for some) to this world and they found another one who suffer the same dillemma, so they would curious about how that another one confront this identity dillemma and end up falling for each other since they can easily understand each other deep down without redundant explaination. The only different between this two pairs is Bruce realise this is just a dilemma instead of love so he escape from it while Nat realise this is just another repeat emotion like she had with Clint once, so she know how to get out of it. Meanwhile Wanda and Vision spend too long isolated together in the Avenger facilities without too many works to do in the facilities unlike Bruce busy in his lab and Nat busy with her intel collection spy works. So Wanda and Vision grows on each other filling the gap of the lost Pietro and the loneliness of Vision being one of his kind. The only relative he could find is another one created by the very infinity stone give birth to him too. And so they found the only one they could find that seem like they are meant for each other and build a relationship called Love upon it.
Civil War War Machine hurts Wanda, then Vision ‘accidentally’ misses Falcon and hits War Machine. Did Vision make a mistake because he missed, or was his mistake that he let his new emotions get the better of him for a moment? I had really hoped to see Vision try to lift Mjolnir once again, and fail (thus symbolizing his full transition into flawed humanity).
I like her arch. Shes a villian who redeems herself. But she was still a villian forced to confront the consequences of her actions. We see this gleam of a dark streak come through when she kills a disabled ultron. Then again when shes ripping thanos apart. She isnt anchored to a morality, rather the prespective she has on a situation. They can be killed because they have done the same. This is the mentality she attacked tony with. Is she a a hero redeemed from a villian, or a villian whos prespective matched the heros for a time. Every person dear to her has died, her closest friends are gone, with only clint remaining. Hyped for the dark side of the wandavision show.
At the end of Civil War, Vision is holding a Rook, the only piece that doesn’t (typically) represent a person. It’s a god to mere Pawns, and technically as capable as it’s peers, but somehow also simplistic and less capable through its lack of flexibility. But a Pawn that fights beyond their expected limits can become a Queen, transcending their own nature to become the most powerful piece on the board. How would a Rook look upon a Pawn who became Queen? I think we know.
@@jcmiller5927 It's all abstract, but imagine existing as a piece inside the structured world of a chess game. There is a real and tangible difference between the pieces, how they move and how many there are. The pawns are many, but limited. Rooks, Knights, and Bishops are more rare and capable. Queens and Kings are the most rare and important, but in different ways. The King is most important, but the Queen is most capable, standing well above the other pieces in ability. So if we relate humans to pawns, super beings would be the more capable pieces. The most powerful of them would stand out as either a Queen or King (ability or importance). Wanda was a mere human who became a super being and then came to be one of the most powerful super beings, and I think that lines up beautifully with chess promotion, or Queening. A rook is born to power, but can never change. I think he sees in Wanda everything that he cannot be. He sees not his great power, but the limitations of his very existence. Awe. I think Vision looks at Wanda in awe.
I was never a fan of scarlet witch in the comics or age of ultron but I started really liking her in civil war and by infinity war and endgame i loved her can't wait for wandavision also are you going to do a video essay on the relationship between Thor Odinson and Loki Odinson I think both of them having that relationship as Odinsons is interesting just something I'd love to see and others want to see
@Snehil Shrey Honestly I think they’re kind of incomparable. Comic Wanda has had decades to become a fully developed character with a deep (if ridiculously convoluted) backstory and a rich inner life. MCU Wanda is someone else entirely, who only had what *maybe* amounts to about a short film’s runtime to establish, develop, and resolve her character, so of course they had to make extreme cuts that would lead to extreme differences.
@Snehil Shrey I think she just grew in popularity after endgame. Before that she was really Underrated. But the most Underrated character has to go to either Falcon or War machine.
Snehil Shrey every scene she was in people didn’t cheer for her like Thor basically. She’s actually quite underrated. They scream to the top of their lungs when cap holds Thanos for a few seconds then Wanda holds Thanos off for like 2 minutes while breaking a stone. And no one cheered for her. People like Thor cap and hulk are overrated. I think that’s what they mean
In Civil War, both Vision and Wanda are the most powerful heroes and they both purposely hold back. Though Wanda represents the destructive power that causes chaos(the explosion in the beginning) and is fueled by her emotions, while Vision represents the controlled power that brings everything back to order and his actions are fueled through logic.
Freedom Pancakes vision is more controlled of his abilities but that’s also what makes him weak as he did really nothing in these movies. Scarlet witch not being able to contain her powers that well is what makes her very strong
As a maladaptive daydreamer, who has been struggling to escape my daydreams for 2+ years, I resonated a lot with Wanda in WandaVision, the series was actually what snapped me back to reality and showed me that I have to leave all that behind for my own metal stability. I really relate to her. This video (till now) is great, and I feel really heard, in a way. Good job! 🤍
I always thought it was kind of hilarious that the mighty, "above it all," Ultron sits with his head cocked to the right, patiently listening to Wanda and Pietro's story about their parents and childhood lol he never strikes you as someone super interested in listening to anybody's sob story, really. More of the; "I'll be giving the long-winded monologues, thank you very much!' type of antagonist. Know what I mean?! (just an observation.) ✌
I’ve always seen the side of Wanda’s character that was waiting for death and I found it so heartbreaking. Which is why I was really happy when I found this video and it talked about it because I haven’t seen any other video mention it. I just feel that ever since her parents’ death, Wanda has had a incredible amount of survivors guilt that just continued to snowball after that moment. She believed she should’ve died. And after this, every time someone she loved dies in front of her, she questions why she didn’t. Like when Pietro died. There was no reason, in her mind, that she shouldn’t have died instead of him. She blamed herself for his death because she was the one who told him to get everyone else off of the city and come back for her. If she’d left when he said she should, he would still be alive. He stayed on that city to protect her(obviously the other civilians too but her mainly), and when he died, she once again felt like she should’ve been the one to die, or at least should’ve died with him. Then in Lagos, after she saves Cap. It was her fault those people died. She knew that if she hadn’t messed with things she would’ve been the one to die. But she did mess with things, and innocent people who weren’t even in the streets lost their lives. Obviously she did save lives, but in her mind, which was only elevated by the press blaming her, she sacrificed those people in the office building for her own life. More survivors guilt. And then, of course, Vision dies the first and second time. The first time, it’s at her hands. She is literally killing him. Which her brain is telling her means that she’s only killing him to save herself. Obviously this is not true, she’s saving half the universe, but I truly believe that her mind had put all of the blame and responsibility on her. She had so much survivors guilt already that her brain takes any death and puts it on her. Then Thanos kills Vision in front of her, which hurts her even more deeply. Knowing that Vision would’ve died anyway, she now sees that if she had listened to Vision and killed him earlier, half of the universe wouldn’t now be at risk. So she is now responsible in her mind for the death of Vision, herself, and half of the universe. She brings Vision back and creates her children only to have her be the one to kill them later on, making her feel like she brought them into this world only to suffer before they died. She knows she had to kill them, but I think in her mind, especially for her children, she felt cruel. They hadn’t even been alive for a year, and she killed them. Which I think is one of the reasons she is so incredibly motivated to get them back in the Multiverse of Madness. She loves her kids, and she believes bringing them back will not only make her incredibly happier because, well, they’re her kids, but also lessen at least some of the guilt she has about being responsible for every person she has ever loved dying. I really don’t know why I decided to write this much but you know, this has just always been my take on Wanda so do with it what you will. Also don’t know why I’m writing on a video that is two years old but I am so👍. Also if someone does end up reading this please don’t judge me on my opinions of Wanda I just see her as an incredibly misunderstood character. I’ve never seen her as the villain so I’m just really, really hoping they don’t make her one in Multiverse of Madness.
I have been very impressed with Wanda's evolution over the course of 4 films, and am very excited to see how she continues to develop in Phase 4 with the Wandavision show and Dr. Strange 2! Her journey (or whole life, actually) has been filled with much trauma, and that can definitely leave some PTSD and lead to some deterioration of her mental health. Now add in living multiple lifetimes with someone she thought gone, potentially having kids with him, and then (possibly) losing those kids - she could easily be pushed over the edge. I can easily see her going to Strange for help mentally, or due to the effects on he power. Perhaps her growing power and mental unstability is what leads to a multiverse of madness, thrown into chaos because of her trauma and inability to control what she can do. Enter Nightmare to make things worse in her mind! But thank you for another fantastic retrospective of a beloved MCU character. Keep it up and just ignore the poor hand writing!
Pretentious guy's Vision(not Wanda's boyfriend but actual vision lol) is absolutely right...WandaVision show is literally about Escaping into Daydreams... Personally I understand this very much because I'm a Maladaptive Daydreamer..And the main thing Maladaptive Daydreamers do is "Escape into the Daydreams"...It's a same problem I fight every second of my life... Very good video brother...
Nice job! You managed to find a lot to say, even though she and Vision have had little screentime. It was nice to see some justification for her romance to Vision, I think you sold it to me more than the abrupt developments of the films made me feel.
Thanos's "I don't know know you! (That's my purse!)" really, REALLY should have been followed by Wanda tormenting him with visions (haha) of her own pain and sorrow, both to emphasize her unique powers as well as to give Vision and Pietro their place in the finale. Instead of just throwing some rocks at him.
Loved this video! And it makes me even more anxious for the trauma that WandaVision will put Wanda through with living in an alternate reality with Vision and sons. Especially since the show is going to be more psychological in nature. The potential for analysis is so great.
Maladaptive day dreaming. She dissociates herself from reality by recreating a reality where her problems are gone and Vision is revived; an escape. The difference between regular humans and her is that she can materialize her dreams into reality while humans cannot. It is a very real trauma that is represented magically. One of the many reasons why Wanda captivated the audience is because her struggle is real and people identify with it. A very human superhuman.
In terms of the Sufi derived Enneagram personality system that I have been studying for 30 years Wanda is the only type number four in the MCU. That means she is being introspective creative artistic type... They tend to be empathetic and existential. Wanda has the spark of type number 7 in her without which force can be depressive and immobilized... Thank you for this insightful portrayal of her! Another great Implicitly Pretentious video...
this is such a gorgeously crafted essay. and i absolutely love your take on wanda. she’s one of my favorites to analyze. but like, i’m not gonna cap right now, something about your voice and the music literally made me cry.
This video adds to the weight of sadness we'll see with Wanda during WandaVision simply on the grounds that the show may show Wanda's mental state becoming unstable and her potentially becoming a villain in the MCU. She's the definition of a tragic character.
This is absolutely one of the best videos made about Wanda Maximoff, Vision and the dynamics behind their characters and their relationship. Thank you for this. I've liked and subscribed.
Beautiful analysis of an insanely strongly written and portrayed character whose complexity is largely overlooked. Wanda has been my favorite MCU character since her first appearance and there are things in this video that I myself have been saying for years whenever someone questions why I think she's the strongest character of them all. Can't wait to see WandaVision and I hope you'll do an update then :)
what a great video essay about wanda maximoff. she's one of my favorite marvel characters. i've been looking for a few in-depth discussions about the complexity that she possesses - besides the others pointing out the obvious MCU flaws and decisions - this was a striking and better one because i loved learning by your thorough insight about her!
I love your videos! You do great analysis on some of my favorite characters! If you're open to it, can you do a video on Harley Quinn and the harmful effects of untreated trauma?
Moving video but I still have no idea what actual powers she has or their limitations. She brings "perspective" to the team and then a minute later Hawkeye brings "perspective" to the team which basically unravels the first assertion since neither are explained. Abstraction is easy, like spinning cobwebs out of clouds with words. I still don't know/believe that she has narrative coherence anymore than Vision does. So guess I agree they're not compatible with the Avengers.
I'm guessing WandaVision proves that Wanda isn't at peace with Vision's death. Why else resurrect Vision from the dead? Wanda being stuck in the grieving process proves that no matter how powerful her reality manipultaing powers are she's still human. Luckily Wanda never considered herself supirior to mankind, otherwise she would've turned into a Hitler with reality manipulating powers aka Thanos.* [Edit] *To be honest, I know Thanos is no egomaniac or a Hitler. What I really wanted to write was Dr. Doom or Tony Stark, but If I did that nobody would understand what I actually meant. So I wrote down Thanos, simply because he was already branded the big bad and since Dr. Doom hasn't arrived yet, there really was no other alternative.
Oh, I WANT to watch this but it's too emotionally rich for my blood as midnight approaches. I GREW UP! with this character. It was hardly light entertainment, maybe I'll pick on the nebula video next. At the time I just couldn't handle thinking about THANOS's abuse of use of her or tolerate any glibness about that. But I think I'm ready now.
Harley quinn is a very similar character, but instead of waiting for death she was waiting for love therefore she's the opposite of wanda but at the same time a very similar being.🤔🤷♂️
Also it's very sad how in the snydercut she seems to not accomplish her circle for recuperation, and it's batman the one to finish her cicle.😿 Damnit man you only make my daydreaming for fictional characters go on and on.😢😅
Why didn't she kill Tony Stark? She's literally been in his head, she can drive him to suicide, without even thinking about it. "You took everything from me." She crushed Thanos, not Tony. Thanos, and she had him trapped under a car at the airport. Why didn't she finish him off? He made the bombs that killed her parents, destroyed her home, and trapped them in it for 3 days. He created the murderbot that killed her brother, and brought her home town literally crashing down around her. She played Vision like a puppet, and buried him under tons of solid rock for imprisoning her in Tony's up-state vacation home, on his orders. She ripped Ultron's heart out of his Vibranium chest, just to show him what it felt like to die. The first time we see the 2 of them in the same room, she's handed the Sokovia accords, and played a slide-show of his crimes against humanity, Sokovia, her, and her family. Why didn't she turn out like Zemo? He had less reason to hate him, and he almost succeeded when he didn't Live with him. Why did Vision shoot Rhodey out of the sky, with her in his arms? Think about that, he got "Distracted," with Scarlet Witch in his arms, and accidentally shot the wrong Powered Armor, right in the Arc Reactor. "Oops!" She cried at his funeral. My question is, why she let anyone else kill him?
"Perspective." From her perspective, how much of the trauma in her life was Tony Stark? In the Hydra compound, the Avengers were coming for her. Who burst into that same room, meters away from where she held her twin brother's hand? "Stark." Who did she run into, right below there, and let take the Mind Stone (Which gave her her power, or unlocked her Mutant potential) "Stark." Who's name was written on the side of the bomb that trapped them in the rubble of their home, paralyzed with fear? "Stark." Who did she see reflected in Ultron's shiny face? "Ultron can't tell the difference between saving the world, and destroying it. Wonder where he gets that from." That's her perspective. Her childhood. Her mission, and the name echoing in her head for as long as she can remember. The reason why she signed up for the experiments in the first place. The reason why she was in that Bunker when he burst in, and I assume that she was paralyzed by her greatest fear. I assume she stopped using that power, even when it would have been useful, to incapacitate Thanos, and save Vision, but she used it. To see her greatest fear's greatest fear, and then she let him take everything she had left away from her, again. That might as well be her name on the Sokovia Accords. Imagine that guilt. Not just survivors guilt, but she could have stopped him, from getting the power he used to create Ultron. Then, Ross handed her the Sokovia Accords, right across the board room from Stark. She wouldn't have been in Lagos if it weren't for him, and he wasn't even there. He might have come in handy, when they were fighting Crossbones, don't you think?
What did she see in Thanos? The man that came for the Mind Stone, and killed the only person she had left to love? I wonder, when she was dusted over Vision's body, did Thanos look like Ultron, or Iron Man, to her? Strucker? By my count, he was just the last one that's done that to her, in her arc. I only have to guess that she didn't get into his head, because she doesn't want to, but think about that power. That evil power, to show people their worst nightmares. She sees them too. Anyone want to guess what Thanos' worst nightmare is? Failing? Like Stark? Seeing everyone he pretends to care about, dead and dying right in front of him. Like Stark has always done, to her? What did Thanos really take from her? The last thing that Tony Stark left for her. I have to say this: After Thanos, Tony Stark was the villain of the MCU, until he saved it. This isn't Wanda's redemption ark. It's about Stark's, because isn't everything?
Also it should be stated: Wanda, Pietro, Billy, and Tommy are Romani Jewish. The first 2 have been so ever since they were introduced and the latter 2 are her children. The MCU whitewashed them all
Alright, so this was meant to come out yesterday, but I had an absurdly busy week, so here it is with all the grammar mistakes and me abusing the dramatic pause at every opportunity. Enjoy :)

I love that WandaVision holds up your thesis. When Wanda losses everything she retreats onto a daydream and creates Vision from within herself.

War Machine hurts Wanda, then Vision ‘accidentally’ misses Falcon and hits War Machine. Did Vision make a mistake because he missed, or was his mistake that he let his new emotions get the better of him for a moment?

wanda deserves to eventually find a new man and fall in love, she really deserves love and a happy life
This ages well: now that they live, literally, inside daydream and away from everyone else to find happiness.
But even that can't last because of their innate natures, and the new depths of Wanda's that we've explored.
Can we mention how amazing Olsen's potrayal is. On par with the iconic 5 of the MCU

Robert Earhart she certainly has more character development than Captain Marvel. Then again so does Nebula
"I cant feel you."
My heart is destroyed.
Which makes the events that transpire in WandaVision all the more tragic.
I can't wait to see you go deeper with Wanda vision
you must be really happy rn lol
Maladaptive day dreaming.
She dissociates herself from reality by recreating a reality where her problems are gone and Vision is revived; an escape.
The difference between regular humans and her is that she can materialize her dreams into reality while humans cannot.
It is a very real trauma that is represented magically. One of the many reasons why Wanda captivated the audience is because her struggle is real and people identify with it.
A very human superhuman.
I don’t care how many times you say identity, these are honestly very therapeutic
Yus. Also, Ultron is a type 4 so it matches up well.
You really do post the most in depth, emotionally intelligent and well thought out character analysis out there.
this is such a gorgeously crafted essay. and i absolutely love your take on wanda. she’s one of my favorites to analyze. but like, i’m not gonna cap right now, something about your voice and the music literally made me cry.
This video adds to the weight of sadness we'll see with Wanda during WandaVision simply on the grounds that the show may show Wanda's mental state becoming unstable and her potentially becoming a villain in the MCU. She's the definition of a tragic character.
Rewatching this again, but now preparing for WandaVision is SO great
All future Marvel script writers should be FORCED to watch these essays.
FINALLY EARLY TO ONE OF THESE
also i didn't know i needed this so thank you as always
Aww thanks! I'm really flattered!
This is absolutely one of the best videos made about Wanda Maximoff, Vision and the dynamics behind their characters and their relationship. Thank you for this. I've liked and subscribed.
She is getting a tv series. Great analysis g 👊🏻
Thanks man!
This makes me so excited for wandavision because I know she will become a villan, or as loki, and antihero, never truly a hero.
What is grief, if not love, preserving.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Seeing this after seeing the first few episodes of wandavison is surely something 😂
i always thought she was talking about quicksilver in the ending talk between her and clint in endgame
Will you update this video, once "WandaVision" is released? This video is great as is, but once that show is out, an update may be needed.
I found this video after watching WandaVision, and it holds up incredibly well.
Say "Identity" as many times as you like brother, I'll keep watching you're videos!
I love you, man! This video is pure gold.
This entire video predicted wandavision so well omg she's literally living in her own ideal reality
Loving these MCU vids. I absolutely love this franchise and love hearing you explain the story arcs and themes of my favorite characters
Loved this video, once again! Let’s do Bucky and Falcon! Keep up with the powerful content!
Is it weird that I got teary eyed??😭😭
Yess I've been waiting for this! Another incredible video about a great character!
Wow this is beautiful. Thankyou for this incredible video. Always been a fan of your videos. Keep it up!
You have the best videos and descriptions.
I am also, a chicken nugget from pluto.
what a great video essay about wanda maximoff. she's one of my favorite marvel characters. i've been looking for a few in-depth discussions about the complexity that she possesses - besides the others pointing out the obvious MCU flaws and decisions - this was a striking and better one because i loved learning by your thorough insight about her!
And this was created even vefore WandaVision which is even more admirable
I believe Wanda's cicle of self destruction and rebuilding will end with WandaVision
Rebuilding indeed.
Well that was great. Welp, seems like I'm going to kill the rest of the day listening to you thoughts on Wandavision.
I loooooove Wanda. And cannot wait for the TV series.
I can't wait for the WandaVision show
Damn it man, I was having a GOOD, DAY...
Are you going to do a part 2 post Wandavision
Beautiful as always, your videos are a treat!
Me whenever Implicitly Pretentious says the word "trauma": He said it! He said the thing!
After watching this video a couple of times, I would very much like to hear your thoughts after WandaVision comes out! You do such good video essays!
For the record, I fucking love your intro/title music.
Watching this because Wanda Vision!!
I love your videos! You do great analysis on some of my favorite characters! If you're open to it, can you do a video on Harley Quinn and the harmful effects of untreated trauma?
Awesome video my dude
Thanks for watching!
So...I take that this video will blow up now?
yo implicitly pretentious, whats the name of the song that starts at 10:00? please, it's so nice to listen to it
The video description was really funny! Is it always like that, or am I unusually observant?
Scarlet Witch and Iron Man are the best :3
I loved this video😍❤️ best narrative to my favourite avenger
She really shined infinity war
Luckily Wanda never considered herself supirior to mankind, otherwise she would've turned into a Hitler with reality manipulating powers aka Thanos.*
[Edit]
*To be honest, I know Thanos is no egomaniac or a Hitler.
What I really wanted to write was Dr. Doom or Tony Stark, but If I did that nobody would understand what I actually meant.
So I wrote down Thanos, simply because he was already branded the big bad and since Dr. Doom hasn't arrived yet, there really was no other alternative.
I love your analysis
wandavision confirms this, practically it's a circle.
Love this channel
Oh, I WANT to watch this but it's too emotionally rich for my blood as midnight approaches. I GREW UP! with this character.
It was hardly light entertainment, maybe I'll pick on the nebula video next. At the time I just couldn't handle thinking about THANOS's abuse of use of her or tolerate any glibness about that. But I think I'm ready now.
Damn.....right in the heart soul. Ignorance is bliss.
I can’t feel you
Please tell me who made this video, I just feel almost every part of it. Lemme follow him on IG. 🥺
wonderful, thanks!
Harley quinn is a very similar character, but instead of waiting for death she was waiting for love therefore she's the opposite of wanda but at the same time a very similar being.🤔🤷♂️
Also it's very sad how in the snydercut she seems to not accomplish her circle for recuperation, and it's batman the one to finish her cicle.😿
Damnit man you only make my daydreaming for fictional characters go on and on.😢😅
im very emo now and so excited for wandavision
Is there a link for the mentioned essay?
I don't feel you :'(
are you going to make a new video after Wanda vision though it may be more of a expansion then a new video
I LOVE THIS
intro song?
Greatjob
Please do a Hawkeye one. Pretty please
Tune in next week 😉
Once again, fucking awesome
Sad noise*
You remind me of a English teacher
Also it should be stated: Wanda, Pietro, Billy, and Tommy are Romani Jewish. The first 2 have been so ever since they were introduced and the latter 2 are her children. The MCU whitewashed them all
Dude, you should use a spoiler warning in the description :/
