  • A study published in the journal Nature Communications reveals a new manufacturing approach for sensors capable of recording brain activity with high resolution. Developed by the Integrated Electronics and Biointerfaces Laboratory at the University of California San Diego, the approach utilizes ultra-thin, flexible probes with clinical-grade materials, allowing for recording localized brain signals. The probes, smaller than current clinical sensors, can be closely placed, enabling unprecedented high-resolution sensing deep within the brain. Currently recording up to 128 channels, the technology has the potential to expand to thousands per probe, enhancing physicians' ability to analyze brain signals. The focus is on wireless monitoring for treatment-resistant epilepsy, with broader applications for Parkinson's disease, movement disorders, and other conditions.
