'In the name of God, go': Tory MP David Davis urges Boris Johnson to resign

  • In a dramatic moment to match Christian Wakeford defecting, Tory MP and former minister David Davis has urged Boris Johnson to go. He told Johnson he had spent weeks defending him from “angry constituents”, including by reminding them of the “successes of Brexit”.

"I expect my leaders to shoulder the responsibility for the actions they take. Yesterday he did the opposite of that", he said. Davis then raised the roof by concluding with a quote from Leo Amery to Neville Chamberlain: "You have sat there too long for all the good you have done. In the name of God, go.”

@@TroyaE117 Oh dear, you need to listen to Mr Davis, don't you? He wasn't quoting Cromwell, he was quoting Leo Amery to Neville Chamberlain. Go on, listen to it. And since your ability with details is patently compromised, Neville Chamberlain was replaced as prime minister of this country by Winston Spencer-Churchill. Apparently Johnson wrote a biography of him. But if Johnson does not recognise the quote that certainly helped Spencer-Churchill to the premiership, am I to believe he wrote that book? Eh? Er....boyo?

I whole heartedly believe we should scrap political parties.
There are clearly some Tory politicians, like this one, who I quite like.
John Bercow for instance I was always quite happy to have speak for me, despite not liking the Tory party itself.
On the flipside there are definitely a few Labour politicians I really dislike, despite being a Labour voter more often that not.
I think the majority of the time people treat it like football team allegiances: just voting for "their party" regardless.
I think you should just be given a list of representatives for your area, and what their beliefs and values are, and then trust that they go into parliament and vote on matters on your behalf and speak for you.
It's a broken system where I would happily have John Bercow speak for me as an individual, but could never vote for him because he was a Tory, or would have to vote for some individuals I really dislike, simply because I need their party to be in power.

It's because we had a highly divisive referendum that changed a lot of how we operated as a country. The PM David Cameron, who promised to have the referendum, ended up on the losing side. How could a government that had won a General Election be behind a leader who was against what has become central to that party? PM Theresa May was his successor. She never really won a General Election outright, needing the DUP in a coalition to get over the threshold. Her government couldn't deliver a Brexit that a majority could agree to. Now we have Boris, who happened to win a landslide, delivered Brexit and then got swept up in the pandemic. Funnily enough, reading what I've written I sound like a Tory voter. Not at all. I'm a Socialist and voted Remain haha. That being said, facts are facts. I'm not going to poopoo the otherside just because they're 'not my team'
