    List of (possible) charges against Mam:
    1. Driving under the influence
    2. Driving without a licence
    3. Dangerous operation of vehicle causing grievous bodily harm (x3)
    4. Failing to comply with duty of care
    5. Possession of drugs or drug paraphernalia
    Personally, i think we should be more concerned by the actions of the courts than the NRL's response.

    Difference between the 2 players as far as I can see: Dogs see this as an easy way to get rid of JAC and free up cash they probably see as overpaying. Whereas Broncos likely want to keep Mam, but know they are going to have to make the right call, whatever that is.

Why is being an AFL player or an NRL player be a mitigating factor instead of an aggravating factor for doing drugs. Why do all that hard work and then let it all down by doing stupid shit. Just re watched ya video and I remember a case over here in NZ which involved a Union player named Sevu Reece. He was charged with domestic violence and when it hit the news there was outrage and he had his new contract with the Chiefs terminated before playing a game for them. But what happens next is he was then signed by the Crusaders and went on to be a star player for them and selected for the All Blacks. Then he gets into a drunken incident where he crashed someones car into a garage door and what happened? Name suppression until case resulted in a discharge without conviction.

    I think the bulldogs situation is because bulldogs are trying to clean up their brand compared to previous generations.

    I agree the way we view justice and punishments is baffling.
    I’ve had some people say they are happy with 6 weeks, a fine, and a rehab program. That’s less of a suspension than latrell for a tackle gone wrong.
    I also had a mate suggest he gets the same suspension as someone who gets found guilty of doping. Initially I thought that was excessive but the more I think of it, why not?
    I personally think a year suspension from all NRL is sufficient and warranted.
    Having seen the footage is blatantly obvious that either he didn’t know how to drive or the substance was having an acute impact on his motor skills. This isn’t some silly mistake which you could argue was the case for addo car (minus the misleading the club) this is beyond stupid from Mam so I think the nrl needs to make a stance here

    Have you heard of Mohamed Ihattaren? Once a big Dutch soccer talent. But it quickly turned out he lacked professionalism. Guy didn’t show up to trainings and was constantly obese. And some 2 years ago, it was revealed he was involved with the worst criminal organisation in the Netherlands, the “Mocro mafia”. To be clear, he wasn’t involved in crimes directly but he let them use his car. He was “sacked” (sold/not further contracted/released early) by 6! clubs before the age of 22 but still got another chance/contract.
    Another famous example is Patrick Kluivert. He was before your time so idk if you know him. He was one of the most talented strikers the Netherlands ever had. He scored the winning goal in the CL final for Ajax at the age of 18. He was involved in a car accident too, he was speeding by a crazy margin, crashed into another car, and killed a dad of young children. He still went on to play for Barcelona and to become the all time top scorer for “Oranje”.
    Goes to show, if you are a talented sportsman, you get a lot more second chances than the average person. Compared to my examples, guys like Man are peanuts.
    Gonna watch England Samoa, mate?

    • @TheLeaguie
      @TheLeaguie  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely, I’ve heard of both. Back when Ihattaren was ballin for PSV, I was absolutely convinced he was going to be a star. We should be talking about him on a similar level now as we talk about Xavi Simons. And Kluivert is obviously a legend of the game. Even his son Justin has turned into a decent player.
      You’re definitely right, that’s the business side of things. Clubs will be more likely to take that chance on you. While that might not seem fair, it does make complete sense.
      I will watch England v Samoa for sure, but on a replay tomorrow night. Very much looking forward to it!

      @LomuHabana 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheLeaguie Cool, you seem to have quite the soccer knowledge, may I ask, what is your connection to the Netherlands that you lived there for most of your youth/childhood?
      Ihattaren was really an incredible talent. Maybe even generational. Was excited when Ajax gave him a chance. But he completely blew it. Of course, his dad dying when he was 18 certainly had a big factor but is no excuse for his behaviour and wasting of chances/talent.
      Justin Kluivert is indeed a very good player too (funny enough, he is a different type, Patrick the classical tall and strong striker around 1.90, Justin is quite short and small). Some of his other sons play (semi) professional too. His parents played soccer. Really talented family.
      Nice. That’s what I did with a lot NRL games last season.

    I'm not a fan of the NRL doing player bans. Not that I'm against them, some crimes are horrid, however I don't believe the NRL to be, like you said, a proper "judicial system" and thus those bans and punishments won't be handed out fairly. I however do think a sanction system could be easily put in place and somewhat consistent. Instead of banning Ezra Mam, you put him on a 3+ year sanction where his salary is effectively "doubled". That is if you want to buy him at a reduced salary at 300k, it counts as 600k in your salary cap, where the other 300k that would go to Mam, goes back to the NRL.
    It isn't the just the NRL without morals, almost all the clubs lunge at the chance to sign these "star" players at cut price deals. They need to be put in check and have actual risks towards their opportunistic signings. This sanction doesn't remove the player from the NRL, however it severely happens their career during this period and I think as a punishment is much better than what we have right now.
    Would like to point out this idea was very much off the top of my head, details like length of the sanction and the penalty to salary (double, less or more) would be worked out by someone a lot smarter than me.
    P.S I'd also be open to Origin/Rep Footy bans during a sanction, allowed to play NRL but not represent your state/nation. However I feel like that would be largely dependent on the national body and I'm not too sure the NRL should be allowed to tell a nation whether or not to pick a player.
    Again great video, I really agree that the NRL and honestly a lot of fans don't hold the players accountable enough. A big part that holds the game back from becoming truly mainstream.
