Absolutely fantastic! Phil Collins demo! He heard it for the first time in almost 20 years in 1999 for Classic Albums TV show and was almost surprised at the lyrics being “I missed you babe”! Phil is absolute genius and these demos prove it. Thanks for sharing.
Always burns me up to read how people are critical of the sound, off-timing and whatever else. That's why it's called a DEMO! A raw and rough sketch of a work in progress. The "Face Value" demos are the absolute greatest...Phil at home alone during a low point of his life & career, and unaware that he was creating classics.
Ah ! The Phil Collins's demos : voice, synths and drum machines. I think that "I Missed Again" was along with "In The Air Tonight", a song rejected by Banks and Rutherford during the " Duke" sessions.
I absolutely love this version, its so touching. On the Classic Albums doc Phil was played this and was taken aback having forgotten all about it, and remarked on how "I miss you babe" sounds naff when said but when sung sounds very poignant.
wow, thank you for putting up this and if leaving me is easy. Beautiful stuff. Now only one more demo to find. His demo of tomorrow never knows as i guess that is out there as well. again thank you so much for putting these up!
Yeah, I have this record!! I filmed one of my "famous" Daily Vinyl videos playing this song and the demo of "If Leaving Me Is Easy". (See my turntab6le in the snow.) It's at watch?v=NT4peyedh-k. I also made one for the demo version of "In The Air Tonight" .. in the same spot but in the summer in the middle of the night.
Should have stuck to this sparse and sincere sound Phil son instead of selling it out and turning into the man from Marks and Spencer's with those awful ballads and generic white eyed soul that followed after your first solo album which compared to your subsequent ones was a titan. But would have been even better if you had kept it raw instead of becoming Des O Connor for the stadium era
If Phil didn't step up they would have likely disbanded after Pete left. Would you have rather Lamb be their last album and them become a footnote in music? They adapted.

Back when Phillip David Charles Collins was 29.☺️

THIS IS A BANGER
I remember this from a rare Charisma LP from ages ago - great to hear some really raw Phil Collins!

Just been watching him on Sky Arts. Heard this for the first time & I love it! ❤
Incredible that the released version had a funky Motown swing to it. Nice demo.
Awesome. I looked this up after seeing the Face Value DVD and am really excited you found it.
Thanks.

God Bless!
Loved it
Yes fam.
Wrong drum machine picture there. He used the CR-78 on face value (not the CR-8000).
I love Phil Collins I should buy that Roland equipment cause he shows on 1997 Storytellers how to make "In The Air Tonight" its easy.
Ive had 2 Roland CR-78's and they are fantastic.
Phils the best
TOP
And recorded underwater, apparently.
😂
It is my understanding the working title of the song was MISS YOU BABE
This has a post punk/new wave vibe to it.

Nice! I'd like to have the lyrics if anyone can get 'em. I can make out most of it but would like to read them...
I don't if you're still there but... Can you make it here, please?
I don't understand anything

would have been cool if it could have stayed more true to this version.
''I missed again'' didnt really suit the style of genesis
