    This is my favorite Phil Collins song... which is somewhat strange because it's not his most popular. Very simple lyrics but there is so much emotion in the song, which is authentic, because he's singing about the breakup with his wife. I always thought it was a great combination of traditional rock instruments with brass, sax etc... and of course fantastic bass.

    Effortlessly switching the right hand technique between 1 and 3 fingers, note perfect and the Sklar Signature Head Nod thrown in half way through for good measure at the tacet! What you are watching here is a talent bestowed on very few. What’s even more rare, is that it is bestowed on one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever met! Ladies and Gentlemen, put your hands together and show your appreciation for Mr Leland Sklar...

    Lee it was an honour to meet, work and chat with you on the TOTO gig in NYC a few years ago.
    That wasn't planned. I had just gotten off tour and was hanging out with my friend, before returning to Oz, who had been given the LX crew gig (although I'm an Audio Engineer & producer). He needed a hand so there we were.
    You may not recall our chat but you were very generous with your time and I'm fascinated by your story about the custom basses you have hand made in Canada.
    And I'm a guitarist! Ha ha. 😎
    A few weeks before that I bumped into Rick Derringer too and hung out with him and his wife. So my tour was full of surprises.
    You're an incredible legend and a sincere human being. A humble gentleman.
    Hope we meet again.
    You stay safe, pal.
    John V.

    LeLand...Thank You! You are a "Prince", for taking the time to show us how you do your thing! We've met a couple of times. Once at a NAMM show in 2008 and we met a long time ago, when I unexpectedly got an "After Show" backstage pass in Kansas City at Kemper Arena in 1985, when you were touring with Phil on the NO JACKET REQUIRED Tour! I was the young crazy looking guy in red parachute pants, red and black tiger striped shirt with my collar flipped up and my hair defying gravity back then! My eyes were glued to your performance as I stood in the 4th row watching the concert...still amazing to me to this day! I'll never forget it! LOL! Our conversations were great and I remember them almost verbatim! Thank you always for being such a gentleman and taking the time to chat when the opportunity presents itself for us to be able to talk to you! You're THE BEST!

    • @fretbuzz59
      @fretbuzz59 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyle-style That's to compensate for the different scales lengths of the strings. The bridge and nut are both slanted such that the lower strings have longer scales.
