    Wow I'm in the uk and just starting a vietnam war memorabilia collection and the only helmets we can get are m1 replicas and the are like $60, I would love an original but online they are all about $200 each. Love the video 👍👍👍👍

    You got lucky on that Paratrooper helmet liner. I should have got one when they were cheap. One dude I jumped with at my Airborne Reunion had one. I kind of noticed that he had his M1 with the parachutist liner. He didn't have his throat strap on tight. I should have said something but I didn't know the guy well and the Jump Master my old platoon buddy should have noticed during Jump Master's Pre-Inspection. He jumped on the same stick with me on the same plane. When he jumped after I had gone out the door. He lost his helmet. LOL! He told me he bought the complete M1C Vietnam era parachutist helmet for $75.00. I later told him that I had went through Airborne School and jumped with the M1C helmet and my buddy the Jump Master had too before the Kevlar PASGT Paratrooper configuration helmet. Too bad he lost his helmet. That day I jumped with a more modern Kevlar MICH helmet which can be used by both regular soldiers or paratroopers with no special modifications. Everything has to be tight prior to jumping out the door with the M1C. The problem with the M1C was the throat strap. It would choke you the whole time when you are sitting for hours or long ass minutes waiting to jump. The sweat over time and many cleanings would weaken the canvas straps. They never made the throat straps in nylon for safety reasons because they would snap a paratrooper's neck if he didn't have his head fully down into his reserve parachute when exiting and the opening shock will jolt your head back after your parachute opens. That was bullshit. We still got fucked up necks after our parachutes deployed. Keeping your helmet on your Nogen was more important because we had the ground, trees, and other obstacles to deal with when we landed. For a Paratrooper he needs his helmet in combat bottom line. The throat strap was only designed for jumps only, not for infantry combat. Otherwise you will pass out running or marching after you landed. The throat strap was then disconnected when doing regular activities. Love your videos.

      My father was over there at the same time as Elvis as a tank mechanic and M48 targeting specialist in the 3rd Armored Div.He said his section passed Elvis's along the road one time and Elvis was a generals driver and gofer not the tank crewman portrayed in his movie.
      All armor divisions had the triangle blue, yellow, red insignia. This was the Armor School at Fort Knox,KY the USATC was dropped in 1957 and renamed Armor School and the school moved to Fort Benning in 2010.

    I wore out a dozen or more DAS 50's covers in the 70-80's.
    I wouldn't give $10 for any of those helmets, the one I have is a 65 or 67 in nearly 99% condition with liner, straps and cover (no cover strap) for $6.
    Also have a WW1 German M1917 Stalhhelm that is nearly perfect except one hole for the drawstring in the liner tab.Still all horse hair padding and also a orig cloth cover with no rips, holes or stains.
    Got some others but those are just 2 of the almost perfect ones.

    10:59 maybe the Army Repuplic Of Vietnam paint it black for training( they will write number on the helmet ) for example my grandpa was a Vietnamese Troops he training class was in Đồng Đế 1964-65 and after the done the training he was send to DMZ and still wearing the helmet but without number but still have the black paint normally ARVN troops are using these type of black helmet because it fit to the south delta full of Asia black mud that color was like a camouflage in the rice paddy field and rivers and some time they even use those black mud and put on they helmet for camouflage because those black paint helmet are not common like the green paint just like 1-4000 of them are painted black but after 1975 they make a lot of this but replica of course these like I said before even now the normal m1 helmet is 4 dollar but the original black shells in Vietnam are very expensive 200 or 500 dollar ( sorry for too much comment)

      Which one you referring to,the welded one,the riveted one or the riveted with strap in center? lol
      Have the 1 of the 1st two.
      Got the ARVN Ruck or ever see one?.Picked one up back in the early/mid 80's for a few bucks.Great shape except one shoulder strap D-ring attachment point was repaired. That big rivet in the center of the X frame will wear a hole in your back....The ARVN is like the later Tropical but different material and slightly different build.
      Seen some others over the years but left them go.

    If it wouldn't be too much trouble would you check to see if you have a shell with the heat stamp 702?
    (And the first helmet you showed that you said was an ingersol is actually a post Vietnam shell from the 80s. You can tell by the chinstraps with the chincups. Just some friendly advice.)

      These helmets were reissued a lot. Many of the shells from the Vietnam War were kept in service for many more years. The helmet he has is probably a Vietnam War era shell that was reissued in the late 70s and 80s with new chinstraps.

    on my Vietnam helmet the liner is painted dark green and has psf on both the front and back of it. do u have any idea if that was post war or what? if it supposed ro be their whar does it mean?

    • @JonBoyMilitaria
      @JonBoyMilitaria  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly it sounds like it would be a post war repaint. Not sure what the PSF means. It could be a soldiers intials or an ancronym for something else. You might could google it and see what you come up with... Thanks for watching.
