Thanks for the film. I love seagulls. I always find it highly ironic when humans call them flying rats and say they are a menace. Seagulls aren't engaged in destroying the planet. They're just trying to survive like every other animal.

to be honest we are the reason they even do this stuff in the first place and its not like what they do ruins us, they just eat our leftovers which is in fact helpful...imagine having food leftovers in places around our cities that would stink as they rot
humans really never get how special an animal is until it's extinct or critically endangered just because its something they see every day...passenger pigeons were one of the most common birds on the planet and now that they are gone you have so many people love them
extinction of an animal should not be a way to love that animal but should be a teaching lesson that we should appreciate whatever we have even the most common of the animals because one change and they can all be wiped from history forever

Thanks for posting this. We live opposite a colony of gulls and often rescue babies/juvenilles that fall off the roof. I have one at the moment and all the neighbours try to save as many as we can. I've learned so much listening to their calls and watching them over the past decade. Committed parents and the whole colony helps to protect and raise the chicks. The sound of 'applause' when one of the young takes flight is so heart warming.

This is a truly beautiful film ❤ I enjoyed it very much ❤I've watched my upstairs Seagull neighbours, and those in and around my beachfront home, for the past 10 years and I love them dearly. This season I'm renovating a new flat, and can see onto the adjacent roof where parents were raising 3 babies. I loved watching them daily, seeing what they were up to in their little lives. Last Tuesday all 3 babies were growing well and looking healthy, and were all together on the roof outside my balcony. I greeted them warmly and smiled at how big they were getting. Unfortunately, 3 days later I noticed that the little one who I'd taken to be lying down in the shade, had still not moved, and alas, he had died. His sibling was wandering alone on the roof, with no sign of their parents, and the third was nowhere to be seen. I was heartbroken for this little family, which seemed to be doing so well. I kept a lookout on the little lone bird, who looked so lost, wandering to and fro, crying for his mother, and occasionally lying beside his dead sibling. I was devastated to think that his parents might have left him, or worse, been attacked. I can't tell you of my relief when his parents returned and had brought him some dinner! And even better, I then noticed that the third missing sibling was mooching about on the ground. Today, mum and baby were snoozing on the roof, with baby dutifully lying next to his deceased brother or sister, and I waited with my breath held until both mum and baby moved, so I could be sure they were still ok. And then I saw big baby walking around on the grass like he owned the place, and drinking out of a pot. This little family has utterly captivated me, and I wish that everybody could know just how precious these creatures are, and how lucky we are to live alongside them.

Beautiful documentary - thank you so much! ❤️
I know I shouldn't have but during my final year (which was last year (pandemic 2020)) living at a top floor city centre flat, I helped a couple of Lesser Black-Backed gulls, whose nest was next to my balcony, raise their 2 babies by feeding the parents twice daily and they then of course regurgitated the food to feed their young. My typical offerings were prawns, fish and eggs. Once the babies were large enough, I placed a tub of water near the nest, which they all used for drinking and bathing (the tub was cleaned and the water was changed daily). The babies grew up plump and quickly joined the colony. The parents stuck around with me until the colony migrated away from the area in September. As it's now April, they should now be back in the area again but I don't live in the city centre anymore and I really miss seeing them. They really brought me a lot of joy during the pandemic and taught me so much about gulls. They can actually be quite friendly birds once they get used to you. They used to sunbathe with me on the balcony - it was so lovely 💕

Don’t ever think you shouldn’t have done what you did to help. Sometimes those in nature need our help, and I believe it’s our duty to step in and do the right thing.
Unfortunately in this film where the second chick came so much later then the first one, I believe it wasn’t able to fight it’s sibling so that it was able to get enough food. I don’t know, that’s just my guess.
I love birds, but living on a peninsula, feeding the gulls are an every day occurrence here. These birds, although they never knew it, have helped me through some rough times. They’re amazingly smart, and each one has a unique personality.
You get to know some of them on a personal basis, which is why it’s devastating when one of them gets hurt or killed. I will never understand how anyone can be so cruel to these birds, when if they would only stop, watch & listen, I’m sure they too would find something pretty amazing about this misunderstood bird!!!
PS-Thank you for helping out that gull family. You did the right thing, and if anything those parents appreciated it, and in the end, that’s all that matters!!!!!!

That was one beautiful insight into seagull's life! I get angry when people start shooting at them, treating them like rats, but they just seek to find food, raise a chick and survive. Thanks to some parents, kids think that these birds are pests and the kids are raised to hate them, people really have to be educated. The last shot of the nest was very emotionally charged, you know what you are doing, keep it up man!

Beautiful footage. Thank you for sharing 😊. I did find it hard to see the young ones alone in the wind and rain. I expected the parents to keep them warm more often. Was surprised to see the lack of care. But obviously that's from the point of view of a human. I guess the birds do what is right for their offspring. Love watching birds with my binoculars. Has really become a hobby I take great pleasure in.

What a beautiful film!!! Seagulls are my very favorite bird, next to the Crows. These birds are so smart, funny, and so very pretty. I have a couple that comes to my window, jumping onto my air conditioner, then knock on the glass if I’m not moving fast enough to bring them something to eat, it’s the funniest thing. Unfortunately these birds get a bad rap, as not many people enjoy their presence. It was nice to read that there are people out there who actually do enjoy the company of seagulls, and are even willing to lend them a helping hand. Again, Thank you for putting this film out there, it shows the love and care these birds have, especially towards their young, and the next time one steals your burger or fries, it just might be for that hungry baby they have, waiting to be fed!!!!!
We all need to be kind to our wildlife. We need to step up and speak up when we see one killed or struggling in distress. Do onto others as you would want done to you, what a great motto!!!!
This video truly made my night, and I hope you are able to post more!!!
    😊

Hi Julie. Thanks for your message. It's great that you enjoyed the film. I totally agree with you that we need to treat all of our wildlife much better than we currently do. It's a constant source of sadness for me seeing how badly we have treated our amazing wildlife. And I agree also that these are highly intelligent and beautiful birds. It was a constant delight watching their antics. So much fun.

Out in Coney Island 🏖️ there are so many seagulls. Enjoy watching them and their personalities. I suppose depending where they reside, they behave differently. For example, you can see them stealing food left on beach blankets, as such, and it's too funny 😄 At least I think it is. They have to eat too!! 🍽️

There is a juvenile currently living above me and I was curious to see what the life of these birds is like from hatching, so this film was fantastic to find! Seeing them in the rain, and how tough their lives are, really is a shock, as a human who gets to live warm and safe indoors.
26:30 great way to conclude the film. It's sad to see them getting chased knowing the energy they have to expend to take flight. Human or bird, when we're young we know no better (actually, the birds probably know better than us!)
edit: Ok, update 4 months later. I now have a seagull that won't stop coming to my window and banging its beak very loudly on the window when I'm trying to work. I think it wants to be fed?? I wave it away and try and get it to leave, it keeps coming back. I know there are seagull nests on the rooftops up here. Oh god what am I going to do, this bird is driving me barmy lmao Why won't it stop banging on the window??

Gorgeous film, thank you for creating & sharing!
I moved to the coast of Brighton (Hove actually) about 3 years ago and the same family of gulls visits my window 3 to 4 times a day when they see me enter my kitchen for some fresh water & fish/cat treats that I buy specially for them. During nesting season they come by more often and even bring their chick when it’s big enough! Such intelligent & charismatic creatures 🥰

Thank you so much for posting this. I have a nest on my roof and each time they have chicks I try to see when they’re tiny but can’t see much. This is like a close up of my own gulls on my own roof and their chicks. Such beautiful birds but my neighbours hate them.
I currently have a chick in my back garden maybe it fell but it’s making attempts to fly, I’m leaving it alone and the parents visit (they trust me I feed the parent) it’s been on the ground though a week now so I’m a bit worried. I think the parents are trying to entice it to fly but as long as they’re showing attention I’ll stay out of the garden so as not to stress them.
Thanks again for the beautiful video ❤️

Lovely film. I have a pair of gulls that return to nest on my roof each year but I dont get to see the chicks when tiny only when they are bit bigger. So heart wrenching to see them in the pouring rain but they usually survive and go on to live long lives! Thanks . Brilliant film.

A wonderful film of life as it is .If my eyes are correct 2 hatched then a third much later and of the two only one survived .The weather was very British and it shows the hardships all birds go through . Seagulls are amazing .to watch and hear .At the end the beach was theirs until ... some rather big footed boy decided to have his fun....( where are the parents ) A 5star video 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Greetings from Berlin .Helena

I had a female gull across the street from me and because I'm an upstairs flat I can see across to the roof of my neighbour and what's sad is that it was so hot for a few days that the eggs didn't hatch becsuse they over heated the past two yrs I've watched her raise her young and any spare food or left overs I give it to her its better going to babies than the bin so seeing the female gull after a few days she would still try and sit on the eggs it wasn't untill about 2weeks after that she gave up and the smell of the rotting eggs was attracting crows and other birds it was sad seeing her I know it's the same female from the twice before because a female gull will keep nesting in the same place.. the female and the eggs were just unlucky becsuse of the weather was just so hot it was the hottest few days of the year 2 weeks ago but hopefully next summer she will have babies to raise the female and male they just look so lonely together ..
