The older I get, the more I want the classic ATV's I used to see in the magazines. Only had Honda, Kasawaki, and Yamaha so I'm due for a Suzuki.

Love it! Bought mine new in 2002 and she runs like a Swiss watch. No problems whatsoever except the crappy ethanol gas these days. This will be my thirteenth year plowing snow and it does a fantastic job. It's built like a tank and will likely outlast me. Finally replaced the original 21 year old tires a few days ago. Thank you for the video❤

Awesome to hear! 21 yr old tires lol. They must have been wore out bad. I sold mine this past spring. Should have kept it. You're right, it's a tank.

I have a 2003 which I bought in 2005. It has carried me and loads of supplies up and down my very steep 4WD road in winter when there are no other options. Carries groceries, dog food, birdseed, hay bales for my donkeys, you name it. It did require chains, especially for deep snow or icy periods. This machine is almost indestructible even for someone like me for isn't known for sticking to routine maintenance.

I’ve got one. No belt. Foot shift. Billet proof. And I’m Honda guy but this is a killer all around atv. No sensors, no belt bs. Air cooled and it goes everywhere within reason. I got mine free cause it was abandoned. I work in the industry and get deals all the time. But I would’ve paid $1500 easy. Never sell it.

Suzuki’s even now days are bulletproof. Honda and Suzuki’s fit and finish is marginally better than everything else out there

Your right about the older machines, they are tough. I have older Honda machines and they are hard to stop. Very great description of the flywheel. Looks like a great machine. Thanks for sharing

Nice...thanks for this video and all of the other comments. My wife and I recently purchased a cottage and in the shed was one of these to our surprise along with some other cool items. I purchased a new battery for it and it started up first crank. Looking forward to using it around the property :)

My main user is a 2000 Kawasaki Prairie 300 and I agree older are alot better and simpler. Today I just picked up a 2005 Suzuki Eiger 400 for $300 runs but needs a starter and a little more love. Not a bad machine overall I would say.

I always enjoy your vids. I'm going to look at a Suzuki Eiger tomorrow night with 1200 miles. It has a plow and has only been used on private land (1 owner) no trail riding. Its a pretty good deal, IMO, and it looks like new in the pics. I can't wait. I'm currently plowing with a 97 sportsman 500 but the 4WD is out. I have chains on the rear tires but its still chore to plow heavy snow. It gets stuck quite a bit. I can't wait to get a working 4WD quad w/ plow!

@Getting It Done North Of 7 I got it! $2050 purchase price. 1191 miles. 4' plow with warn winch. Haven't had any seat time other than a short test drive but everything seems to work Lights, brakes, 4wd etc. The rear storage compt is broken and one of the front a arm plastic shield is cracked. He had just replaced a broken flywheel lol. Shifter seems a bit notchy at times. I'm hoping it needs an adjustment only. Once in gear all seemed good. Other than that it is really clean. With the dwindling value of the dollar I think 2050 was actually a pretty good deal.

Just an update: We received about 7" of wet heavy snow and I plowed for 2 hours with no issues. The trans / CVT engaged smooth, engine purred like a kitten, 4WD worked perfect, light were nice and bright (Night time plowing), winch and plow worked great, and the machine was very quiet. Best of all, it was UNSTOPPABLE. In 2 hours of continuous plowing, I was stuck maybe 7-8 times but only because I lost momentum with very big piles of snow. I just backed up (without any issue) and plowed right through with some speed. What a hidden gem these machines are. The only thing I'm going to do is install heated grips and it'll be perfect.

I bet you thought your little 4-wheeler was nearing its end when it kept having little problems one right after the other! But you fixed it all! Hope it keeps on running for a lot longer!! Have a good one!

I agree these Suzuki Eigers are pretty tough little machines. I grew up riding Honda's and I was a little leary at first about the Suzuki, because I have never owned anything Suzuki before. I bought mine used, a 2005 Suzuki Eiger in 2013 with only 1100 miles on it. Guy I bought it from said it was his wife's atv and she had ran into a stump and it nearly threw her over the handle bars, he told me she said sell it after that happened, I'm done. He had just sold his own atv and he said they was going to buy a side by side once the Eiger sold. Actually I bought the Suzuki Eiger for my wife to operate, but she's to scared to ride solo. I use it around the house for work projects. I also have a 2 up Polaris 500 Touring for trail riding with the wife. She loves riding ATV's but only as a passenger.

Heh north of 60, I have an eiger 400 for about 10 years and like you it is a work horse around the property. I had the magnet issue. They weren't damaged and actually glued them back. Unfortunately the glue didn't last and ended up replacing the flywheel. That stupid pet cock failed twice and finally replaced it with one that doesn't have the vac line from the carb., no more failures. I have replaced the carb and now my starter just went, which brought me to your videos. I suspect the brushes also. The engine is full of carbon due to running rich with the last pet cock fail, plowing snow, and now still runs rich and idles poorly. I'm at a loss and working on anything around the carb is not pleasant at all. I have played with the carb so many times over the years I just dread working on it now. I hate it. I was thinking of relocating the carb on the front rack so I can work on it :). I have never owned another ATV but I would have to say I got my money out of it that's for sure. I do not have that transmission clutch that you do but that automatic shifts so smoothly you can't even feel it. Keep up with the good videos!!

I would not go to big on tires, I know someone that had a Arctic Cat 400 with 28's and he ended up destroying his transmission. More mod's more problems, from what I have seen. For the winter I swap my tires for more aggressive ones, but still only 25's for my Sportsman 500, lots of grip for plowing.

I agree about way oversized tires, if I was going to increase tire size any at all I wouldn't go no higher than 26" tires on the Eiger.

I have a 2005 Eiger 400 4x4 automatic and I can’t find information on what the right hand lever is for. There is a point of contact when it’s not engaged and when it’s squeezed, the point clicks like it’s electrical.

im wondering what is common longevity of these motors before they need significant repairs...will they get 10,000 miles or more before needing rings, etc ?

I have an approximately 2007 400 that is spewing a gas/oil mixture back into the air filter container. When
it started doing this, I changed the petcock to one without the diaphragm thinking that it would fix it. I finally put a plug in the line to the carburetor from the petcock but it still won't start. When I changed the oil, it basically was an oil/gas mixture. Any suggestions?

Without seeing the atv's or hearing them run I can't honestly answer that. The Eiger is a bigger atv with a more powerful motor. I'd probably go with the Eiger if they are both worth purchasing.
