Back when the highway departments in my area used slag for general road paving, skid-related car crashes were nearly unheard of. Now that they've changed to asphalt, it's all too common during rainy weather.
Highway speeds were probably lower. The national speed limit (when we had one) was 55mph. Now, you have highways far in excess of that. Furthermore, the speed variance between the high speeds of interstates (upwards of 70mph) going into cities and towns (where it often drops to 55mph) leads to a lot of speed variance accidents.
Think of it as iron slag is the impurities in iron ore. You reduce iron ore into unrefined iron by heating it alongside carbon in an oxygen-free environment. The carbon strips the oxygen from the iron ore, turning into carbon dioxide and leaving unrefined iron behind. You then refine the iron by melting it, and the slag (impurities) float to the top out of the molten iron.
Can't the slag be fractionally distilled to yield other elements, by starting at a low temperature, collecting those melted solids, and therefore seperating.... then raise the temperature to the next elements melting point, and collect the runoff again. They could probably do this in space, with Asteroids, using some kinda magnetic induction to heat them, and separate the different ores based on their melting points, again starting low, and going upwards, Till practically nothing remains
Isnt there a lot of arsenic and other heavies in it, how is this gonna help, Why cannot they take most of the lead and arsenic out, like to leavels of no toxic basalt

Slag is the molten hot stuff off of a steel furnace, slag products are the various sizes of cooled slag and can be used in different ways
