Dude, a shit ton of archers drop centurions in a heartbeat. Horse archers even better. Also, helepoli are amazing against them. Don't do elephants, they drop easily.

The result would be huge diffirent if you put best version of each unit against centurion than a generic one. For ex: Egyptian chariot, Roman legionary... Besides, the fight should be resource equal wise than a equal number. Centurion relies on quantity to fight over quality. So if you put equal unit the fight will almost be 1-sided
Not elephants, but Priests definitely. Centurions are supposed to be ele counters not the other way around. Eles only won the matchup here because of numbers.

How do the conversion mechanics work in Return to Rome? Because AOE1's were different from AOE2 (it had no maximum time before conversion, for instance).

Centurions win vs everything except Elephants, Heliopolis and Monks, yet the Macedonian Centurions barely lost to the Elephants (1on1 Eles actually lose and are slower and more expensive, so microed to avoid the trample damage Centurions win), get 4x resistance to Monks, 2 additional pierce armour vs Heliopolis (again, better micro/formations) and +2 LoS. Microed archers are ineffective, with the +2 bonus pierce armour, Macedonian Centurions can just ignore the archers and go straight for the villagers and buildings which all get melted. There pretty much isn't a counter for FU massed Macedonian Centurions, especially when backed by Catapults to take out any massed Helios/Monks/Archers.
Why is the Roman centurion wearing a Greek Korinthian helmet? Sure it was a popular helmet and used by many, but seems a bit wrong to put it on a centurion, who's supposed to be well equipped with Roman stuff

They actually don't have any special pierce armour. Just +3 from upgrades, same as any foot melee. It's that they have 160HP. Archers do whittle them down in numbers especially with meatshield and using tight building blocking etc

My only problem with the academy units of AoE1 is I never find a proper counter to them other than more academy units
Ballistas, priests, mounted archers and elephants. Never on melee excepting with other centurions.
chariot archer , the centurion is expensive as hell , you can mass bow unit and focus fire each one of them

Compared to the slow movement speed of Centurions (and other academy units in AoE1/AoE1DE) these guys are practically running :D.

Balance fix. Centurion with that stat would be unstoppable
The tower shield upgrade compensated for that. But it went to all foot soldiers.
Macedonian centurions have 2+3 pierce armour. That is not fun when you have crappy siege and mediocre archers. They are also resistant to conversion.

The Camel Rider seems so out of place. The camel has no saddle or rein and the rider just looks like a Legionary without his helmet pasted on top...
That and the slinger were added units for RoR original expansion. Maybe they didn't put as much time in to those animations lol

Not sure about shred, most chariot archer does 4+1 damage which is 2 damage per hit. Horse archer is much better if you can afford the gold.

Pass through damage is good but 40 damage bolts is dangerous. Kill archers in 2 shots , fires as quickly as an archer lol

About as slow as most foot melee. Greek ones are 25% faster
