I'm glad Rosenthal has brought national attention to the way this organization is acting. They deserve that "dork of the week" award every week until they get their shit together.
@ when healthy he did find a path to success for a bit with the Tigers. This seems like a Hendricks-lite replacement and reclamation project. Sorry Brown, Assad, Wicks… ya’ll got Cyber Monday’d by Hoyer!
It's not a terrible signing for a back end starter. I think he got a bit over payed thanks to the few starts he made last year plus his performance in the postseason.
Really? This is another chance bet the cubs notably take during the offseason and they really dumped some serious money on this guy for one good year. Holy cow
Rosenthal is just echoing what every true Cubs fan knows. It is fair and accurate and very frustrating. There has to be a plan in place, right? Is there a plan? Please?
And I don't want to hear anything about trading Nico, Trade Happ,he can't hit and he's terrible in left, but Wrigley is a tuff place to play, don't trade great players away!
Heyward, at the time, was “projected” to be a superstar on the making but his bat never really developed….but Lester turned out pretty well for the Cubs.
They signed Sandberg to at that time was one of the biggest contracts ever. He was even on the cover of Sports Illustrated called the "7 Million dollar man" or something. Then they signed Heyward like 50 years later and he hit like .220 but once called a team meeting in 2016 and was paid 28 Mil a year for that ONE meeting he called lol.
@johnlenon8872 technically Ryno didn't work out either. By 1993, he had the injury that cost him most of the season. 1994 he got off to a slow start, then shockingly retired to save his marriage, forfeiting the money. And we did have him in 1995.
1000% the boys are stop gaps Wasn’t that obvious 😂😂 When shaw cassie pca canario brown Horton prove themselves they need financial flexibility to lock them in long term Their core players right now are on affordable contracts and most of them can be offloaded in the next couple of years Only bad contract is dansby
So far this has Craig Counsell finger print over this roster. Get rid of older bench players and fill with prospects. He knows how to deal with this kind of personal and has a proven track record. I have always thought that this is why the Cubs hired him, to get the most out of their wonderful prospects
Just like, what's going on with the Bears' organization, I'm glad someone Nationally has come out to call out again, another Chicago sports franchise!!............Again!! embarrassing!!🤔🤭🤨
So... he'll pitch maybe 80 innings in 2025. Thats about $200,000 an inning for a guy that just had his first quality season since 2021(and his only). Good god we're screwed with this fromt office and cheap/greedy owner.
You know why Redsox is in on Soto? Cause they have 50m less committed than Cubs, it is much easier for org to go after big FA when you have a lot of room under the tax. That is just the reason of it.
I agree. I'd much rather spread that 500 million between 5 or 6 difference makers. The only players I'd even consider giving up the store like that for are Ohtani or Judge. Soto just isn't quite at that level.
Soto is way out of Cubs pay and way out of Cubs remaining salary space under the tax and Cubs still will not be close to challenge Dodgers. You are adding 25% of your payroll to improve a position that you have two all star level already!!! Is that good planning? You tie your hands on one signing which can get you to 90 wins but second round of playoff most likely. And you stuck and can’t improve much. And BTW, Soto is not going to pick Cubs, why you spend so much energy on 1% chance? That is not smart GM-ing putting your efforts on a very small chance when the return is not as big as other teams’ would get cause you have an elite prospect and two all stars at that position! Don’t get me wrong, even with that, I still like to sign Soto if they did go that direction. But I would have no problem they didn’t after they checked in at beginning, and I also support that decision to be a good GM decision. One thing I am thinking is if the rumors has any base, we could go after Soto with 60m for 12 years with multiple opt outs, and then trade Cody to Yankees with a prospect attach to the deal, so we can under the tax as well with 10m left as well.
I'm glad they're out on Soto, because if that guy is 26, then I'm the president of Uruguay 😂. Most of his current value comes from the fact that he claims to be the best young free agent in decades. What of he's actually 30 or 31?
agree totally. He's not a 5 tool player. He's maybe a 2 tool player. Granted hitting 40 dingers and hitting .288 is pretty sweet. Kyle Schwarber hit 38 this year and 49 last year and he gets 20 Million a year. Why? Schwarbs is ALSO not a 5 tool player lol. We have a guy named Cody who if he stays healthy and does not break any ribs,. he could hit 30 dingers, drive in and score 100 and play gold glove defense and steal 25 or 30 bags. That's a 5 tool guy for 28 M a year, not 45 M a year which is what Soto wants and some dumb team might pay him 600 Mil. Crazy talk I say.
@@johnlenon8872 I hear what your saying but the numbers you gave for Cody are the absolute best that he could do...Soto could win the batting title or lead the league in homers....apples and oranges.
83 team and they had a terrible season Few tweaks and this team can get close to 90 Hendricks was an issue Lost saves massive issue 2 month offensive slump that was an anomaly Morel at 3rd both def and off was a big issue PCA brown bush imanaga wicks were all rookies…likely to improve We have improved 3rd with Paredes Plus shaw and Cassie will finally make the majors I think you guys are being too short sighted and critical
Hope everyone is ready for one decent signing and the parade of washed up vets that the organization hopes catches lightning in the bottle. Good teams get better, the cubs get the scraps.
Well he has the speed of a turtle, the arm of an 8 yr old, and the glove of a X large pizza. He does hit dingers and only wants 40 Million a year for 8 years. The only first basemen are either Busch, Bellinger, or Vladi. I'd keep all 3. But Vladi will be a rental in the Summer and be a FA this time next year.
I'm glad Rosenthal has brought national attention to the way this organization is acting. They deserve that "dork of the week" award every week until they get their shit together.
This organization is a joke
Yay we just signed Kyle Hendricks to 15 Mil a year for two years. This guy Boyd pitched in like 8 games last year. Sweet. World /Series.
Can’t wait to hear Sam’s thoughts on the great Matt Boyd coming to the North Side…
WHY Sota? He doesn't hussle, only if he's winning!
“I don’t want that word. I’m tired of that.” - Sam Olbur
ken rosenthal he is right Ken Rosenthal i agree with ken rosenthal its cubs ownership doesn't not want to spend money superstars players
Takes a lot for a guy who wears bowties to call us dorks.
LOL
I'd just use bench players for the first base coach like they used too!
Thoughts on Matthew Biyd contract?
Maybe when they wake up! Recorded yesterday… I’m certain Sam will shit himself
@@therealdjway another lefty starter seems odd to me...not really special for 16 MIL or whatever.

He will be on the DL by the 3rd week of April
Cubs season saved , Matthew Boyd 2 Years 29M . I cannot think of a better way to start a Monday 12 hour shift than to hear this news.

Cubs are in dumpster fire mode after this recent signing. We couldve gotten 5 Kyle Hendricks for that
And I don't want to hear anything about trading Nico, Trade Happ,he can't hit and he's terrible in left, but Wrigley is a tuff place to play, don't trade great players away!
Baseball ⚾️ America's past time Rigged against the Cubs 😢
Canario in the Dominican 37 PA .276 / .405 / .448 / .853 OPS 5ks 6 BB 1HR 7 RBI .
Cubs get Boyd for $29million for 2 years. Yikes.
Also can we admit the counsel hiring was a bad hire?
Cubs haven't bought/paid for a SUPERstar in decades... Soriano, maybe -- who was incredible in New York, but struggled a bit in blue?
Heyward, at the time, was “projected” to be a superstar on the making but his bat never really developed….but Lester turned out pretty well for the Cubs.

That Ken guy is right, the Brewers play in a city with 500,000 people, it's pitiful how they mop the floor with our Cubs year after year.
