  • We take you back to Disney-MGM Studios on October 1, 1991. This is the tram tour portion of the Backlot Tour. There are so many classic movie props, vehicles and of course the famous residential street. Herbie is missing but if you keep watching, you'll see some good stuff from The Rocketeer & City Slickers.
    Enjoy!

I remember this back lot tour. The earthquake tractor trailer. I didn't know where or when that was in my memory. Now I can place it.

THIS! Being part of a studio like the one presented in this era of backlot tour, making films of the concurrent era of cinema is the life i've dreamed of & fantasized about living my entire life!
Being immersed in those cars, the props, the architectural facades, the costumes, the gardens, the constructed physical sets, that era of cameras & gear & special effects technology and all the infrastructure and backlots and soundstages involved to make movie magic happen... that's Heaven. I could spend eternity there. I WOULD spend eternity there, and love it just as much as the moment i set footpaw there for the first time. Take me to Movie Land! Take me Home 💜

This was one of my favorite rides at Disney's MGM studios and I loved seeing all of the props for different movies.

That is not the back tail of the plane used in Casablanca as no real aircraft vehicles were used during filming of the final scene. That back half is just a leftover piece of the one that used in The Great Movie Ride scene and can now be found chilling in the Magic Kingdom Jungle Cruise ride.

If I hadn’t listened to the podcast I would have thought this was a wayyyy more functional production facility then it was.... they did a good job with the illusion that was presented in the tour.

Such a wonderful time in the history of WDW! I remember this so well...and now one of the Flight of the Navigator ships is in Tomorrowland and the tail section of the Casablanca plane is in the Jungle Cruise!

Thank you for this. The last time I was in Disney World was 1992, but I don't remember getting to ride the Backlot Tour. One of my favorite movies is 'Flight of the Navigator'. If only this was filmed on both sides with a IMAX version of super8.

this was filmed 2 days prior to my 10th birthday! XD I miss these classic things... I wonder whatever happened to all the props that used to sit out there rotting away? I'll have Dumbo's Circus' wagon for my backyard please. XD

I was 8 when this was recorded, I still remember nearly every one of these props and even the tram operator's spiels about them! It's funny the things locked away in recesses of your mind sometimes. I've researched some film/TV prop vehicles in the past (I want Columbo's Peugot so bad!) and unfortunately you're right. It seems that very often they get parked somewhere and literally left to rot.

It was always weird why they pushed the flop Dick Tracy movie props and the rocketeer on this ride. Here’s the suit, here’s the car, etc. And it was a flop horrible movie. I remember watching it in the theater and people were walking out. They keep pushing it though no idea why. Dick Tracy this and that.
