Aaww...this video brings back so many great memories 😊 I went to Sri Lanka in 2004 (got home around a week before the tsunami hit!). It has always had a special place in my heart; such a unique country, with so much beauty. I just regret that I didn't try more local food; maybe I should go back some day to do that ☺️ Although I do remember trying the arrack - that's some strong stuff 😆

You can check em out...if you like falls There are hundreds of falls..there are so many places to visit..there are streams, lakes, rivers, mountains, nice sunrises and sunsets...you can have sun bathes...... Nuwaraeliya, kandy,Ella,Anuradhapura,Polonnaruwa,galle,matara,Trincomalee,jaffna,mannar,Colombo,...I'm trying to be you in there..it is such a beautiful country...less natural disasters... nice people, and best in hospitality,,,,, so much good country ever...im encourage you😊😊please go there😉

We were in Sri lanka in February this year (2020) had a great time taking a ride on local trains and buses is a fun thing to do, but the biggest highlight was getting to see elephants up close in the national park.

Surely no one can dislike woodapple? Growing up in Colombo I would wolf down woodapple jam sandwiches , before rushing off to school. Distant memories. Woodapple cordial was also a favourite. Shanjei comes across as a great character, with whom one could to enjoy a few Lion beers.
Shanjei was the best! But woodapples are the worst..at least in my (Allison's) opinion! 😂My taste buds must just be weird, because they tasted so funky to me, but everyone else seems to love them 🤷♀️
@@Theendlessadventure Maybe it's an acquired taste. Being born on the island, I would have been introduced to it at an early age, & hence grew to love it. Anyway each to their own.

Galle is amazing! We visited Sri Lanka
back in 2015. I love the coral within the construction. Connecting with a local tour guide is always the best idea to hear great stories and get an insider's view of the area. Shanjei's beard is epic! Blue cheese + apple = 😵. India Hut and Dairy King ~ so cooperate 😆

@@Theendlessadventure There is an elephant festival in June I think it is that we really wanted to go to.... looks like that isn't happening anymore! You said it right, some days are better than others! Do you guys get to go see your families soon? Being around family helps. It must have been really hard quarantine near your families and not being able to see them. We came from Thailand about a week ago so I haven't been able to see my parents yet, but hopefully soon!
@@samandnick I think you are referring to the Kandy Pageant (called Kandy Perahera or procession in Sinhala, our local language). This happens in the month of August in Kandy, where more than 100 elepants take part along with a multitude of dancers, whip crackers, etc,etc. This pageant has been going on for about more 1000 years. You can google Kandy Perahera and find out more.

You guys do a great job on your videos. Been a fan for years. However, colonization just grinds my gears. The Portuguese and Dutch were notorious for killing, enslaving and brutal colonization. Let's not celebrate their architecture and influence on Sri Lanka...because I'm sure many people died while being occupied by those countries.

Dutch is a name given to people from the Netherlands and Holland. Holland is part of the Netherlands. I don't know about how the 'going Dutch' saying came into use but I wish I did as I like trivia like that! :-)

make sure when you drink wood apple juice need to add little bit of coconut milk to get rich nice flavor (what i prefer). or put scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it milky flavor. by the way thank you for visiting my country.. cheers ☺️☺️☺️
Just a note: their videos are generally shot several weeks before being posted. They did put up a real time video to let us fans know that they have returned to the states and are sheltering in St. Louis for the time being. Thanks for the Vlog.portuguese and dutch controled only part of the country especially low lands near the sea(with constant battles with sri lankan king since 1505). British came and took over from Dutch, and had several battles with Sri lankans(sinhalese) and took control whole country only in 1815 by signing an agreement with sinhalese chiefs(not by a battle, but only by political manipulations).
