I did a 15 day Carribean cruise in February before COVID and met many Canadians who cruised for 3 months of the winter, going from ship itinerary to ship on the Holland America Line. They found it was cheaper to do that than rent a condo in Florida for the same time period. I was intrigued by the quarter year cruising concept. Like a quarter timeshare only better - food, housekeeping, entertainment, places to see and things to do. All kinds of people.
Big commitment from him to choose this lifestyle to live out his retirement. I love cruising, but just as excited as I am getting on the ship, I’m also ready when it’s time to go home, and get off the ship! And after 1,000 cruises, this man should have some major upgrades and perks. Royal should take care of him ALWAYS. He pays full price and an inside cabin? Royal can’t upgrade him to a free balcony after 1,000 cruises! That’s ridiculous.
He gets a free cruise per year because of his loyalty status. But he worked most of the time he was cruising when he was young; he was still working as of four years ago. Not sure when/if he retired.
I had a chance to sit with Super Mario, in his office, on a Trans-Atlantic cruise for 45 minutes one day. He was just as polite, personable and talkative as he is in this video. Later at a Royal Caribbean Trivia session, I had a chance to sit with him and other Pinnacle Members, I am not a Pinnacle member, and he remembered my name days later. They got a perfect score on the Royal Caribbean themed trivia! What a life!
Love keeping up with Super Mario! We met him in March of this year (2023) and really enjoyed asking him questions and just interacting with him and Jolene. Very sweet man and we are waiting for him to make Guinness Book of World Records so we can get a signed copy 🖤 Thanks for giving us the opportunity to keep up with him and sending love from Heather, CJ, Beth, and Timmy!!
I've actually chosen a similar lifestyle for this year - I'm ship hopping for most of 2023 and having an absolute ball. I do wonder if I'd prefer to be living on ONE or two ships, but really enjoying seeing so many different ships!
I agree with Mario. I actually prefer inside cabins, as I sleep better in total darkness. In addition, the lower cost inside cabins allows me to cruise more often. Thank you and Mario for sharing your knowledge.
Alanna, thank you for doing another series with Super Mario. He is my cruising hero and I got to meet him on The Oasis in December. He is such a nice guy and he sure is living the life! He is so right on the fact that shorter cruises cost more. We sailed the week before Christmas last year and I think that is the way to go if you want a holiday cruise, much cheaper but you still get the holiday vibes.

I was fortunate enough to meet Super Mario on Oasis of the Sea last November 2022 he was very informative and extremely easy to talk with I even asked him if he mind me taking a picture of him because my sister and I love cruising and also chose Royal Caribbean as our favorite cruise line. Working on getting Diamond Plus.
My wife and I are Diamond Crown & Anchor members and happened to be on the same ship with "Super Mario" when he was recognized for being the highest ranking member ever. Amazing!

Thank you Alanna and Super Mario for the video and pricing update. My family just sailed Harmony of the Seas (Week of June 23) and I walked by Super Mario's desk on the pool deck. Our first encounter w/Super Mario was back in 2010 on Oasis where he was being honored at the Captain's reception. I thought that was an accomplishment but was even more amazed when we saw him being honored on Harmony. Wow, he has a life style I'm kind of thinking about and these numbers and information really does help. I truly thought RC offered a discounted cabin. I still recall him saying, "cruising is the best value that provides room, meals, entertainment, and an opportunity to wake up at a new designation".
I love cruising! I'm retired now and wish I would have planned it out like Mario. My husband and I take at least 3 cruises a year, usually a Transatlantic, a NYE, and the first week in January. I'd love to cruise more. Once my husband retires, I will do more planning to get a few cruises in per year.
This is awesome! I remember watching your video with him a few years back. We cruised on Independence of the Seas where there was a sign that said Super Mario's office. Love this so much!
I'm with Mario.....inside cabins are just fine and soooo much cheaper. You definitely have to go about cruising differently if you're Mario vs the five-day booze cruiser.

For a next opportunity, it would be good to know what are Mario’s favourite ports. Does he like to go out? Has he done all the excursions? How does he work fin the cruise? What type of job?

It’s great to see Mario. We have been cruising with RC for 27 years. Still not pinnacle. I love the numbers Mario is coming up with for retirement on a ship!! It’s definitely a consideration for us!
My wife and I have never stayed in an inside cabin. Our next cruise in September is on Adventure of the Seas and we booked one of the inside cabins overlooking the promenade. We've come to the conclusion that we want to cruise more each year and the only way for us to financially do that is to book inside cabins. We will see.....
Hi. If you truly want more cruises then go for the interior staterooms. Once you get to Diamond+ and up the perks are still good and you will end up with upgrades. Not as often as pre COVID but they still happen. Enjoy!
My Uncle used to cruise a lot normally on the same cruise line and he was getting really big discounts when booking future cruises, close to 50% on some and on suites. Plus being the highest frequent cruiser level a lot of inclusions too.

You would be sick of it in a month. Everyone tried that with some condo ship and they all moved off three months later because they spend tons of money but did not control anything. Who in their right mind wants to go to the same seven souvenir shops and a bounce island more than once or twice? Very unreliable internet. More reasons to get a new "bucket list" with better ideas on it.
I just went on a Christmas cruise and I would never do it again. Ship was packed. Multiple people in many of the rooms and more children than I’ve ever seen on a cruise.
Great update on the topic since the last ones. I've taken only 2 cruises on RCL, but both were transatlantic. Inside cabin is perfect for me as a solo passenger.
Love Mario met him a couple times and always a joy to talk with. Have been cruising Royal Caribbean for 15 years and always follow where Mario is at. Great interview.
My wife and I enjoyed our first go at being Diamond C&A level on our last cruise Four drink vouchers each/day and one free premium internet day each/cruise - loved it . Cruising just got cheaper and a whole lot healthier ( 🙂) without the drink package

Tax is $130 per person per day?! Holy cow. No wonder my “free” cruise was so expensive. Love to see Mario again. I was wondering how he was faring during the pandemic. I should have known he’d find a way to have a soft landing.
We met Super Mario on HOTS during our Memorial Day sailing. It was a wonderful surprise as I didn't know he would be on the ship. He's just as nice in person as he is on the videos!

I'm so glad that Mario is still going strong on Royal Carribean . I had wondered where he hid out doing the pandemic, and I was thinking some villa in Italy. Still, that was crazy, because probably needed to see the ocean.

We did New Year’s 22-23 on Oasis of the Seas, we loved it; booked it again for 23-24 but the prices were ridiculous, for $500. more per person we got another 8 days on a back to back cruises which we have booked for January 2024
It is so wonderful to see Super Mario living his best life onboard a cruise ship. I cruise about 2x a year right now and go to my timeshare 2x a year. I want to kick that up to 4x a year for both. I just do a lot of volunteering and need to work it out on my calendar. I went to a retirement community the other day to visit friends who live there and it is like being in a resort community. It was great. Like being on a ship or at a resort. Great update information on living on board a cruise ship. I don't want to live on board for 50 weeks yet would love to be on board more often. Then, during the pandemic halt of cruise travel we stayed in Galveston for a week and imagined ourselves on another Voyage someday. During that season one of the Passenger ships arrived for a few days. We cheered along with you and your husband as the empty Cruise ship docked in Galveston. Your beautiful baby daughter was smiling from the stroller that morning !! It was a moment of Joy and Hope not soon forgotten. I recall you folks drove all the way down just to view the ship entering the channel and docking. We're still here at the Port of Galveston awaiting the __ new __ Carnival Jubilee this December.
Great information! I don't think I will ever have a desire to cruise full time, but a 6-12 month 'cruise' is definitely a possibility in a few years, glad to know it can be more affordable than I thought.

This was very interesting to hear about living on the ship full time. My childhood best friend goes cruising a lot and has told me about meeting several people who live full time on the ship. I find it so interesting. And I’m jealous. Hopefully one day I will meet you. Happy Sailing.

Interesting....does he need too disembark and embark everytime....or does he switch ships? Does he do exlusively 7-day cruises or does he sometime take 10, 11, 14 day, etc cruises?
I think I’d do the interior as well. I like a nice dark freezing cold room to sleep in and think the savings could be used for other things than a higher tier room.

Currently, there is a big difference in pricing between “ you pick your cabin” and Royal picks your cabin. Curious to know if Mario chooses his own cabin location as part of his pricing budget.
Mario does pick his own cabin. That way, each week, when the new cruise starts, he doesn't have to change cabins. He likes to be in the same cabin for the duration of the time he is on one particular ship.
@@CruisetheWorldAtoZ If he always has the same cabin, does he still need to checkout, leave the ship and checkin for the new cruise or can he stay and leave his stuff in his cabin?
@@manueldoninger7813 Yes, those continuing on with the next cruise usually meet in a lounge, and have their card scanned, marking them as 'off the ship'. They then get a new card and can go back to their cabin if they wish.

Why does he not do an Ocean View cabin?
The Diamond/Diamond+/Pinnacle on Balconies+, should bring down the total cost, and the onboard booking bonus, is better for a Balcony cabin.
His rates are not yours, being that Pinnacle's get a 150% Single Supplement Fare.

Even MSC gives repeat customers a discount. Just one cruise gets you 5%-15% discount on future cruises.

What a fun video. I love cruising, but would miss my family and friends if I spent that much time onboard. I will keep to my vacationing a few times a year for now.
Many Thanks to you Alanna for the informative video with Superman-Mario. George and I recall watching the first one about four years ago. Then, during the pandemic halt of cruise travel we stayed in Galveston for a week and imagined ourselves on another Voyage someday. During that season one of the Passenger ships arrived for a few days. We cheered along with you and your husband as the empty Cruise ship docked in Galveston. Your beautiful baby daughter was smiling from the stroller that morning !! It was a moment of Joy and Hope not soon forgotten. I recall you folks drove all the way down just to view the ship entering the channel and docking. We're still here at the Port of Galveston awaiting the __ new __ Carnival Jubilee this December.
Great information! I don't think I will ever have a desire to cruise full time, but a 6-12 month 'cruise' is definitely a possibility in a few years, glad to know it can be more affordable than I thought.
Super nice video .. thank you so much Mario for your update on living on a cruise ship ... I'm very envious. I've done the Allure if the Seas, the Rhapsody of the Seas and the Oasis of the Seas and enjoyed every one of them, am now trying the Celebrity for a change and have done the Milleneum and upcoming in February will be doing the Apex. I wish everyone could experience the relaxing feeling of being on a cruise !! Thank you to both of you for doing this video and sharing with us !!

This was very interesting to hear about living on the ship full time. My childhood best friend goes cruising a lot and has told me about meeting several people who live full time on the ship. I find it so interesting. And I’m jealous. Hopefully one day I will meet you. Happy Sailing.
Super Mario it is wonderful that you have made your dreams come true and live on a cruise ship!! I would love to live on a cruise ship but for now, I will just hope for some Super Mario signed cruise swag and enter the contest!! I do have two upcoming cruises to look forward to!

Interesting....does he need too disembark and embark everytime....or does he switch ships? Does he do exlusively 7-day cruises or does he sometime take 10, 11, 14 day, etc cruises?
We just saw him on Independence of the Seas. He had a cute little set up at the pool area.

I think I’d do the interior as well. I like a nice dark freezing cold room to sleep in and think the savings could be used for other things than a higher tier room.

My Aunt and I talked about living on a cruise ship. It is something she is considering.
Currently, there is a big difference in pricing between “ you pick your cabin” and Royal picks your cabin. Curious to know if Mario chooses his own cabin location as part of his pricing budget.
Mario does pick his own cabin. That way, each week, when the new cruise starts, he doesn't have to change cabins. He likes to be in the same cabin for the duration of the time he is on one particular ship.
@@CruisetheWorldAtoZ If he always has the same cabin, does he still need to checkout, leave the ship and checkin for the new cruise or can he stay and leave his stuff in his cabin?
@@manueldoninger7813 Yes, those continuing on with the next cruise usually meet in a lounge, and have their card scanned, marking them as 'off the ship'. They then get a new card and can go back to their cabin if they wish.
