I'm trying to get out of poverty and off government pensions and I want to be a youtube creator but don't know much about video editing so I thought I'd start with streaming video games. I know it's going to take a long time to live off my tips but at this point any money is better than none. For anyone wondering I have a chronic illness which severe limits how much energy I can exert in a day (2-2 hours tops) and the result of that can last for days or weeks later. Many of my friends with the same illness have been bed bound for 20 years, and I don't want that happening to me. So, getting any type of regular 9-5 job just isn't doable. So, this is my last chance to make money for myself.

I know nothing about it, and as you both make clear, there's a lot to consider, a lot to learn, beyond just hardware and software. honestly making sure your stream feel fluin and plannedout while being enteaining is what u should be aiming for after that its gear like mics, capturer cards etc

Bandwidth is typically reported in Mbit - megabits, not megabytes. Please don't be think that you need a 4 MB upload bandwidth: that would be equivalent to 32 Mbit.

It is BITS. Twitch is max 3,500 kbps. Kilobits per second. If it were bytes you would typically see KB or kB. 8 bits in a byte. i have 200 mbps down and 20 mbps up. So thats a max of 25 Megabyte per second down and 2.5 Megabytes up. Dont let this confuse you guys! The ISPs sell it you you in megabits per second so it sounds like you get more.

A couple questions that i think would be interesting to get your opinions, on the viability of: -do you think it's viable to have more of "casual" stream channel, where you don't intend on it being a career, but use it as a means to raise the funds for the gaming hobby, without streaming for obscene number of hours? in other words, basically earn enough to pay for gaming hardware and games, but not much more than that. kind of a break even goal. -what do you guys think about a team channel, sort of like Planet Destiny does where they have a collection of streamers that run the channel as a team? have any tips, if a small group or clan wanted to start a channel and run it as a team?
You know, I just tried using XSplit for the first time today, got a year's free license because MSI parts in the computer I just built, and I found the audio to be really shit quality. I did however manage to get around that by using Nahimic, another bit of software that came with the MSI stuff again. Fixed the sound right up, quite happy with them both now :)

loves the videos, by the way i have had the hd pvr2 since i had an xbox 360 and still use it today, it runs beautifully and i can stream and record in both 1080 and 60fps. maybe the software has been updated and made the pvr2 work alot better but honestly in 2017 i still love my HD PVR2 :D

It’s an uphill battle. It’s going to take a while to get consistent viewers. I’ve streamed before and the first five or so I’ve only gotten maybe 4 viewers the whole time and they leave within a minute or two... just keep at it and you’ll increase your viewership
So I'm just getting into streaming twitch from my PS4 ; on the bottom right where the comments should be it says "cannot display comments. Cannot connect to server." I know I'm still streaming because I have my laptop sitting beside me viewing my stream. Any ideas why this is happening and how do I fix it?
McDaquiry I'd start streaming on TH-cam bc it's much simpler and start building a subscriber base there. That's what I'm currently doing and I film my screen with an iPad bc I don't have a next gen console.

Maria Stevenson Ive learned that people don't care about the quality of your camera. But the quality of your content. Obviously the camera is kind of important. But its mainly the content. And yes. The PS4 camera is a good camera to stream with. At least when you start off, if your stream starts getting more successful, it would look more professional pal if you dropped some money on a better camera. Leading to more viewers who like the visual pleasure of the streamer having a good camera

One tip. Instead of buying a webcam or some expensive equipment for recording yourself, try some apps. I can use my ipad as my webcam with "epoc".

when i heard that i need 4mb/s upload i lost it
why thats not a lot unless your in austrilia or similarly low internet for hd quality but for lower quality u can use 1.5mb/s

One more idea for everyone, use Xsplit Video broadcaster and Xsplit Gamecaster. It's a good starting program for Streaming and YouTubing.
