I live in the center of europe in a small vilage and this is a well known method for digging wells here too if you don't want to spend thousands of dollars on somebody who comes with a big machine and drills it.
Great work in the family circle .... Better than working in the factory for a few crowns. They have water that is definitely tastier than our city-chlorinated and proud of each other. The old man is a boss, he did it honestly and certainly not the first time :-)
