I live in the center of europe in a small vilage and this is a well known method for digging wells here too if you don't want to spend thousands of dollars on somebody who comes with a big machine and drills it.

Considering the tools and materials you have good job. A lot to be improved. For example you can use fittings that are threaded so you can disassemble it for maintenance.
