House Next To Mainline Railroad In Eaton Ohio! How Could You Sleep Here?! Trains Between Buildings

- Norfolk Southern Railroad Just Feet From Home & Between Buildings In Eaton Ohio! Ethanol Train Crosses Railroad Crossing, Passes Caboose & Splits The Buildings, Station & Historic Structure. 5 Trains With Close Look At Rail Before & After At Railroad Crossing In Town. Rail Manufacturer That I Have Never Heard Of. These Trains Are On The NS New Castle Sub 10 Miles From Indiana, Ohio Border.
Per viewer request I visited Eaton, Ohio on the Norfolk Southern Line that runs between New Castle, Indiana and Cincinnati area in Ohio. Check out this house right next to the railroad crossing. They have a bedroom window only about 15 feet from the main line of a busy railroad. It appears to be a bedroom. It has to be loud when the train blows the horn less than 20 feet from where someone is sleeping. I would love to try it out. It would probably be scary at first but listening to the wheels clacking by would be interesting. I have lived next to the railroad in about 5 different areas in my life. I have lived next to Norfolk Southern in Lexington, Kentucky and the Chessie System in 2 places in Morehead, Kentucky and a couple of places in Loveland, Ohio. I always enjoyed it and have stories to tell about it.
The first train is an ethanol train going between historic railroad buildings and a caboose. This is an eastbound train coming from Indiana to Ohio. The next 3 trains go by the house that sits next to the crossing. I would love to spend a weekend there, would you? Leave a comment.
The last train is one that I just barely got. This is an eastbound intermodal train. It is passing by the foundation of a historic building that was destroyed years ago. That train was booking. Trains use 160.440 here and I recommend using the EOT frequency too.
What do you think of this new location for me to visit? Should I come back soon? Please leave a comment below.
Filmed Tuesday, July 9, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Closest House I Ever Filmed A Train Passing Is Here: th-cam.com/video/nfxGSxz2G3M/w-d-xo.html
I'm sure the residents might use ear plugs but the train must make to house shake, rattle & role.
@@JawTooth That was a FASCINATING video I really enjoyed the history of that abandoned line . Too bad no longer in service. 😢
The house I grew up in was way closer to the railroad than that one. In fact the crews started calling it the coffin house because we had a casket on our back porch Later on that name stuck and it was used as a landmark with the railroad. When I moved to Muncie after I got out of the Army All I had to do was tell the railroad guys where I lived and they would treat me as royalty some of the old dispatchers as well. And the 100.000 $ question was why we had a casket on the back porch? My mom and Aunt would have a haunted porch on Halloween every year so we would store it out on the back porch. One of the brakmen asked me about it and I was kidding around and said we ran out of money to bury grandma so we had to save up the money to put her in the ground the look on his face was priceless we laughed about that for years. I really miss those days
Good story!
Great story
At least you're up in mid-Ohio. Lol
I thought of you the other day when I passed over an abandoned rail road cut. I
Time to binge watch JT's videos!
@haroldTackett6771
When a person drives by a house in a car, people see the best of the house and up keep of the lawn, flowers growing. House has nice paint and sidings.
Depending on the season, you see colorful Christmas Lights 🎄 and/or scary Halloween 🎃 decorations. Some people even place a huge Turkey and Pilgrims 🦃 out front for the swift Thanksgiving season. 🍴🍽🍴
Ride by the same house in a passenger train, and now you are viewing the back of the house. Rusty abandoned vehicles, paint peeling off the house, weed overgrowth, garbage, varmints.
And never any seasonal decorations 😥
And in your case, there is even a coffin 😳
Legend ❤
The castle-like building is the old Ohio National Guard Armory. They used it from 1911 until they relocated in 2011. It was sold at auction to a private party.
I saw the ONG over the entrance way and went looking. I saw your comment first and thank you for letting all of us know what it is. Sure is a cool place.
I saw the O.N.G. and thought Ohio National Guard. Nice history fact. Thanks for sharing.
That’s me too as soon as I seen the ONG. I’m like it’s an old Ohio National Guard Armory.
There is something exciting about a train passing through a small city.
JT, not only do the trains blow for the crossing next to that house … but the crossing bell keeps ringing the entire time the gates are down!!! Honey, we gotta sell our house to Jawtooth!
I might be able to get it cheap and then visit here on weekends Lol
Oh I could sleep through hourly csx trains all day. but what happens when one derails?
@@robbierichmondtyrecop3916 You will never know it happened!
The train is white noise to me, honestly. I've slept on an aircraft carrier, an active volcano, and a cracking glacier all night.
However, that bell is not white noise. That would have me on the phone inquiring if that could be corrected. Some localities require it by ordinance.
I can block out any sound when it is time for me to get some sleep.
I love the sound of Trains, Train horns. Like it a lot if the passing train would shake the house a little.
That is how it was when we went to visit Grandma for 2 weeks
I would miss all of the train ramifications when we went back home. I would be in bed with my eyes open, hoping and waiting for a train to go by.
Thyseenkrupp steel (pronounced “Tie-son Krupp”) is German steel company with facilities in Alabama but I believe the Alabama plant is flat steel the rail probably imported from German plant
in Duisburg and Essen. ThyssenKrupp also makes jet bridges (the walkway from airline terminal to the aircraft) and also elevators. Nice spot to watch trains in that Red Mule Inn if they serve food! Hope Norfie and Loki get along with the new kitty!
This is Bradd... thanks for the shout out Jaw Tooth.
I watch your videos every morning before I go out and accomplish anything useful for the day. lol
"Move that truck!" - Boy, I haven't heard that phrase in a long time - Jaw Tooth is informative and amusing in the same vlog - keep up the great work!
Thanks 👍
Tell it like it is!
Nice job catching those trains, jaw tooth Keep it up,please.and be safe while railfanning out there please
thanks, will do!
On your toes JT. Keep up the great videos.Thanks.
thanks for not sequeing to the rear of the train as many documenters do.
It’s hypnotic to watch the cars go by, besides the awe of the massive weight supported by the narrow rails.
The castle did have the letters O.N.C. on the front? The squirrel lying there was hilarious.
I imagine who ever lives in that house close to the tracks has a really nice pair of ‘sound canceling’ headphones.
The castle had O.N.G. on the front for Ohio National Guard. this was an Armoury and sold to a private person. Thanks for watching!
While I love trains, I don’t wanna live that close unless the crossing is no horn zone! Thanks JT
. *"No Horn Zone"*
I didn't know anything like that existed. Until #Jaw_Tooth posted a video featuring that.
The horns, the train bells, and the rumbling of the trains helps me go to sleep better that the "white noise" rain fall sounds, some people use to put them to sleep.
JT, If you lived in that house you'd probably end up dreaming about railroad diamonds.
Nailed it. He would 🤣
Maybe JT gave his wife one… a RR diamond!
My front porch was 10 feet away from Chessie Mainline going up Youghiogheny river when I was younger... It rocked the house... Except for the morning Amtrak which blew you out of the bed with it's horn.
Cool! that would have been my dream home when I was little. I had to talk dad into taking me to see trains.
Awesome catch JT Brian
Thanks again for the awesome catch 😊
Thank you too!
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains in Eaton, Ohio, I like them, they're awesome, I've been there before, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much and have a nice day.
You have to consider their neighbors, too. They live pretty close to the tracks as well.
Yes, I agree. There are a lot of homes near the track. Thanks for watching!
Nice catch of a Boston and Maine hopper at 10:50
In college, my dorm was next to 5 tracks in Spartanburg, SC. After 2 weeks, I never heard them! It is amazing what you get used to.
That's awesome! My dorm had a view of the railroad also. I loved it
Must have been Marsh Hall?
@@JawTooth You got it! Room 427. Let the Big Dog eat, yip yip! Story goes some guys hopped a freight with a keg and ended up in Erwin, TN.
@@flagman515 Awesome! I would have had fun at that college. The 4 years I was in college was the best time of my life
When I was about 2-4 years old we lived about 20 feet from the railroad tracks and about 60 feet from a crossing. Nothing but good memories from that. I'm sure the people in the house by the tracks wear some sort of ear protection at night
Thanks for watching!
JT thanks for capturing these great videos and also for your great commentary.
Your passion for trains is amazing!
Those houses close to the track must rattle something fierce when the freight trains pass within feet of them.
Thank you very much!
Greetings from England. Great to see some 'proper sized ' locos and trains. Thanks for our class 66's . Unlike most of the domestic locos they have a great reputation for reliability
Many thanks!
Another great video J T. Right on track as always 👍
I live in Eaton. I live just south of where you video. I live two blocks west of the tracks and watch the trains all the time. Great video. 😊
Very cool!
Good Friday morning Brian, awesome video my friend. Have a good weekend my friend and be safe out there
I didn't notice you had another Kitten and that dinosaur outfit looks cute
Now we have two cats lol
That's a super-cool shot with the NS engine appearing practically out of nowhere! I bet your ears took a beating as that train went by with its horn blaring. 📯📯
Yes, for sure but I come to expect it. Thanks for watching!
Brian, you always seem to track down the best trains!! 👍😉😅
Have a great weekend JT and thanks for another awesome video 📹 greetings from Scotland 😊
Thank you! You too!
@@JawTooth Your welcome JT thanks 😉👍
Thyssen joined the Krupp conglomerate in Germany after the War. If you google Krupp, they are a famous/infamous German metal magnate family. Started in basically the middle ages with spoons, all the way up to arming Germany in WW2. They produced the Big Bertha, the largest cannon in the world, named after the matriarch Bertha von Krupp. Most of their factories were bombed to bits, some of them with prisoner labor force still inside... Thyssen is pronounced
Thanks for the information and for watching!
I used to live right by tracks when I was little. A Norfolk Southern line ran right behind my neighborhood, and it was noisy trying to fall asleep, but during the day I would always run to the end of the street where the tracks were whenever a train came.
Amazing videos Jaw Tooth keep up the good work
Thanks a ton!
Cute kitten
Yup, another rescue animal for the farm. Yesterday we were all petting the horse and remembering the day that we rescued him. I had totally forgot about that but my daughter has a great memory. Our horse is over 20 years old now. I just bought a dozen high grade bales of hay for him.
I can imagine how many time's that sweet little lady of the house, has to rearrange the what nots she has on the shelf's when the trains roll by, hunny catch the garden gnome that's fixing to fall to the floor, please
Love to see the shine of those rails, Brian. Awesome live action, too.
Thanks for watching Alan!
Yes to all. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
I read a TH-camer comment other day said wonders why older ppl liked his ultralight vedios.
I figured same reason we like train videos
I get people asking all the time on my Shorts videos why I like trains lol
Almost a complete tank train.👍. Westbound moving a little faster. Hot spot for Viewing.👍. Excellent Catch. Looks like a Church Denomination Unknown
What a great location! Love the homes next to the tracks. What a great way to watch trains go by!
Love it when NS sets their crossing bells to ring with the gates down, they don't seem to do that very often.
Same here!
The practice _seems_ more commonplace with western RR's, at least going by many of the videos I've watched over the years.
Great catches awesome capture and nice video
Also thank you for showing the rail size, thats what i really like about your videos. So please keep doing that. Thank you so much. Bill
Thanks, will do!
I was thinking the same thing about that porch Awesome video
Thanks for watching!
I had a morning newspaper route back in 65 back when the passenger trains were on time. One would go screaming by everyday at 4:40 am. Woke me up with enough time to get 80 dailies delivered in time for school.
I grew up with Underhill in my back yard. I would sleep fine.
Interesting town. Looks like the residents like trains, or I hope so. I enjoyed this one alot. You are so thoughtful to film different locations for us. Thank you JT. ❤
Thank you very much!
That was a great video Jaw Tooth, I can just imagine having a house that close to the tracks, I don't know about you but I'd love it. Where I live, we have a CPKC line running past but unfortunately, too many trees so we can only see the trains during the late fall, winter and early spring. Thanks again for sharing this great video. That's a cool looking castle like residence on the corner there, that would be cool to live in. I wonder where all the stone came from to built that residence. Thanks again Jaw Tooth.
Another great set of clips. I could never live that close to a rail line with the loud horn. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
We see those aluminum "sows" coming through Point Pleasant every day, headed to Constellium to be rolled and finished.
Good morning Brian.
Stay awesome
Hello there and thanks!
Hey my wife and I really enjoy your videos. Great job. My wife's birthday is July 19th if you want to tell Sherry from Glengary WV. hi. 😂 she'd love it.
A train buff's dream: close to 12 level crossings through one town!
Awesome! It is nice hearing the train coming closer and closer
Sir, this brings back so many memories. My Dad was born in the Dayton/Xenia area and we would drive through Eaton to arrive in his hometown. I remember that railroad line very well and I do recall a freight train going through the neighborhood. And I wondered the same thing: how people were able to sleep when a train would go by. Thanks so much for posting and please stay safe.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching my video
I lived in Chicago on what's called the racetrack in Berwyn Illinois, three tracks wide with the Metra running all hours of the day and evening. I lived on the tracks right before the trains were entering the yard, lots of slack bang, train hoppers and throttle ups and downs. Trust me it's easy to get used to. Music to my ears! Slept like a baby! Now I live in TN. in the country, and I miss those lullabies.
Awesome video! That house with the window near the tracks, i agree, get woken up every train. Then you realize you gotta pee😂. Hopefully they are at least railfans. See you gotta new cat. Pretty cat. Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on
I would like to stay at that house on weekends. That would be fun. Yes, we got a little male kitten that showed up just like how Norfie showed up. Thats how we always get our cats. Lol. Thanks for the gas money Mark! I really appreciate it and that helps move me down the road. I have another steam train video that I am working on right now. I hope to get it up by tomorrow otherwise Sunday. Thanks again Mark!
@@JawTooth your welcome and thank you
@@markwalker1144 I am still working on my Empress Steam locomotive video. Had some problems with it last night but I will have it out either tomorrow or Tuesday, most likely. It will be Part 2 of the Iowa chase.
If my better half was sleeping before the train came through, she'd be able to sleep through it. No doubt in my mind.
Really enjoyed this video.
That "castle' is extraordinary!!
Thanks for watching and commenting on my videos!
New trains in Ohio state,so good!!!!!
🇱🇷🚂😘😍😀😂♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Yes and I am working on a video from Camden Ohio right now
So far, Eaton seems to be the place for multiple mixed freights. They've all been good to this point with a nice variety of cars. 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
The building to the left baron st. Crossing isthe state store sell beer and wine. Years ago when i was kid it was railroad express. My neighbor worked there. He had railroad express sign he gave to me. I still got it the armory next to the red mule bar used to have a tank in front of. They finally got rid of it. Alot of people was not happy so they restored and displayed at fort st. Clair park west of town.
Thanks for the information and thanks for watching!
When I learn to walk,my mom couldn't even lay down for a nap!,l would here the horn and be gone!
Thanks for watching!
That rail was made in Germany. I know a place where people live about 30ft from the track right beside a crossing. This is a 2 track with about 40 to 50 trains a day.Cool video nice catches. Seems like a peace full town there.
Thanks for the info!
Right is freight house, left is depot.
Next town west is Campbellstown, where NS just completed a massive track re-alignment.
Thyssenkrupp is a huge international steel company. As one person mentioned it is in Germany. Make all sorts of steel.
Y'all have a great weekend!!!
Thanks, you too.
You too, Jon
@@charlottecunningham2141 👍👍😎
thanks for another great video, Jaw Tooth, love to live next door to the tracks, my home is about 1/2 mile from North/South main 1 CSX line. I hear the horn salutes from my house which is pretty awesome. Also Jaw Tooth love you new kitten, pretty coloring. Have a very good Weekend, my friend.
I sure wish I lived that close to main line railroad. It's a long drive for me but I do have the short line CCET just a few miles away. They come through a few times a week when busy but they had a derailment a few days ago and the line is closed. Thanks for your kind comments and have a great weekend~!
I definitely wouldn’t mind! I’d love to live in one of those houses!
I lived right by the tracks for nine years and enjoyed it. I slept fine. I’ve also lived under a flight path and next to an interstate. I just get used to it. If it’s too quiet I can’t sleep right. Nothing tops Vincennes Indiana. 29 crossings north to south and they sound the horn at all of them. Very busy line too. I enjoy my visits there.
Wow, that is awesome! I would love to visit my grandma all the time with the trains
@@JawTooth nice
I’ll bet that old house shakes pretty good when trains roll by.
On the NS Pittsburgh Line, about 65 miles east of Horseshoe Curve, there is a historic house right along the tracks at a crossing. It was built in 1850, but now is slowly collapsing. It is one of my favorite railfanning spots.
This is our second time watching this video. It alarms me how close that house is to this railroad. Love this video.❤These trains are so long too.
Thank you very much! I appreciate your support! that helps increase my viewing time which makes the video get recommended to other viewers
Great way to start my day JT!
Glad to hear it!
Nothing like a castle with an AC..lol love it
Lol, thanks for watching! You never know what you will see on this channel
Nice video JT.Keep em coming.😎👌
Thanks! Will do!
My birthday was July 31st, turned 50! Love your channel and the fun videos!
Why would you NOT want to be woke up when a train comes by? 😂 Wle stayed recently at the Brakeman's Cottage in La Grange, KY, and it was great. Right next to the tracks. Enjoying your videos very much, as I can't get around very easily. Keep up the good work.
Sounds great! I love that place. I signed the visitor book when I stayed there. I hope you saw some good trains there. Thanks for watching!
Love the new location. Keep up the exploring it keeps it interesting to one's like me that dont travel much anymore.
When I graduated HS, My parents house was wedged between 2 houses.. on the opposite side of the house to the north was 3 rails of a railroad crossing. 2 of them ran every 10-15 minutes with the 3rd (Norfolk) only running a train about once every 2 hours... 7X24.. to the south, on the other side of that house was a major 4 lane road with a red light and high volume of truck traffic with the Jake brakes and all. With all that noise all night long.. you get used to it and it becomes background, much like I've heard sirens in downtown NY become.
years ago a girl friend of mine lived in a house with the train track that close in her backyard. After awhile you rarely hear the trains. The saw mills closed and those track have been long gone. and the house is now a business.
Interesting! I bet it would be interesting to see where the tracks used to be
Good trains today, JT! Mixed freights are one of my favorite types of trains. Most of them today had good varieties of cars and of acceptable lengths. By the way, my comments about the ston̈e building were purely conjecture on my part. I don't know what it is or was. I always have lovedsèr😮
Seeing your pets, too. Tell them all I said hello. Thanks again, JT! 😄😄😄😄😄😄❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much!
You're certainly welcome, JT! 😄😄🤎🤎
Nice catches!..and always like when you point out some of the surrounding area. Fantastic video JT!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Thank you very much!
Looked like it was once Ohio National Guard and now possibly Meals for the Elderly
Great video Jt. Amazing how close the tracks are to those homes indeed. Luxury videos but I’m ready for some more short line action. Please find us some great stuff, brother. Thank you.
More to come!
We stayed in Dennison Ohio in an B&B in a Pullman car. Really great to see how they restored the car with much of the original equipment. They also have other cars which they have turned into a museum. A must see for eastern Ohio road trip or overnight stay!
I ran the Vacuum cleaner store in Eaton 10 years ago, a lot of trains traveled thorough Eaton everyday, I could hear them a comming.
Awesome! I really like visiting that town. Nice place and thanks for watching!
Again a great video from you. Hope, we will see more of my favourits CSX and Norfolk Southern. Greetings from Southwest Germany.
Thank you very much! Yes, I film both of them very often.
Thank you Jawtooth for the great videos from Eaton, OH. Enjoyed trains, location and commentary.
Glad you like them!
I counted 83 cars on the third train.
Amazing video and view out there JT incredible they are booking too as always!
Thanks Connor!
I like picking out unusual reporting marks, especially of short lines. Some short lines have large lease fleets that make them appear bigger than they are. I have seen YKR before, that is the York Railway, which is in Pennsylvania and is a legitimate line. One that I saw in that video that I have not seen before is CIC, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
Me too
Wow jaw tooth another crossing with its bells ringing through the whole activation awesome catch
Thank you very much!
Thanks for another awesome video JT!! You need to come see us on the old W&A!!
For sure!!
Jaw Tooth, I enjoy your videos very much. We also have things in common. Train number 3 on this video, I picked up on your courtesy to the fellow rail fan. You are a good man and I hope to meet you sometime.
Glad you like them! I hope to meet you some day
Hey jaw tooth hope you're feeling better. Awesome trains. As a huge railfan I'd love to live in that house. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋♀️
Hi JT, yes I could live in that house I would love it! Only thing is I would be on my own, my family & pets would not live there! Yes please come back & film more trains here it's fab. Those trains are bookin! ❤😊👍 Toms Outfit really suits him! What a cutie he is. Thanks for showing what Lillia got for him, appreciate that. 🐈🐱
Hey, JT...I've said this before, and it's worth repeating (after watching this video)...your Ohio work is -- by far -- the best. Ohio is "teeming" with excellent railroad ("railfan") locations...living in Athens (Ohio University) for 4 years back in the early 1970's, I discovered this firsthand, as the B&O (back then) ran straight thru the campus...incredible memories. Your visit to Eaton was awesome...love that "Red Mule Inn" at the grade crossing...@5:59 was a perfect screenshot with N&W 8115 right beside it!! Never mind that trackside "bedroom"...how about those porches @ 14:59 and @22:38??? That, my friend, is ideal living...👍👍 BTW...take the "clothes" off that (new) kitten...not cool, not cute. Thank you.
Thanks for your comments! I appreciate your kind words! It's nice to read awesome stuff like that today and yes we took the clothes off the cat. The college I went to also had a railroad but it is long gone today
[thank, you for you're great video and you're time well spent]🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for watching!
Excellent video JT. I would live in that place for sure. I would rather have a busy rail line and freight trains as a neighbor than most people.
I agree with you
there is a bar/rest that as a kid we used to go to and it is right next to the tracks i loved it when a train would pass the bldg would shake not a huge shake but a noticeable one the bldg sat about 30-50 ft away from the tracks it was farther away than the places in your video
I could sleep like a baby in that house, music to my ears. The hotel I vacation at in Trempealeau Wi. is right across the street from the BNSF main where trains usually run 60 mph. and blow for a couple of crossings. My biggest problem is not running to the window to watch. Great video JT, enjoyed it much!
