The schooner is simply a replacement of the Lucy Evelyn which used to be there. Burned in a fire Feb. 1971. It was black with white trim and 180 ft long. It was one of two of Long Beach island's famous landmarks along with the Barnegat lighthouse.
The story of it can be found in the last chapter of the book Six Miles at Sea, a Pictorial History of Long Beach Island, by John Bailey Lloyd. A heart breaking one at that.
It’s like a hidden gem! I feel like people only think of seaside when they think of a family vacation in NJ but if you want peace and quiet with all the rest this is the place to be. Plus it’s so beautiful just to live also!
A hidden gem, Not no more , Maybe back in the 1950s and 60s, everybody and their brother mother and sister knows about this place, Too crowded and too expensive now. 🙄 You can go to Disneyland and Hawaii for a lot cheaper ?
Gotcha! I have lived in NJ almost my entire life and never visited before I discovered it last year! Guess I’m late to the party! It’s really expensive? That explains how beautiful and clean and stuff that it is! Great beautiful place in NJ!
@@annabuzz In the summer months not clean overflowing garbage cans, diapers in beer bottles on the beach, I lived there 42 years, it's ruined now too many New Yorkers, used to be a Philadelphia Pennsylvania area back in the seventies and eighties, your best bet to go there is October or early October, No crowds or traffic 🚦.
