    Hey everyone! I appreciate the comments but please check how old this is! Like 6 years! Hahahaha. The thing sits in my garage. I'm not making any changes, it doesn't get used. iPads have come a long way. Hope you still enjoy the video, it was fun to build.

      The other alternative I can think of is I took a course in college for stage production don't remember much but could visit the local university.

    This is great! I am a guitarist and I am doing wedding gigs. I have to sing lead and play.(smacks head). love this idea. Wish I found this a month ago but at least I did. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

    Hey man, I'm your fan, what a nice idea you had. I'm a singer and this would help me quite a lot because my memory isnt good at all. Good luck my friend, you deserve it.

    Very nice. I built a non-computerized (lyric book) monitor with a light and power for my guitar pedals and fans. I used Speakon connectors for the power as to not have cables hanging out. Love this idea. I will let you know when I start building mine.

    Looks really nice. Two things I would have done (I always go overboard) would be to cut the computer's power cord and mounted a socket on the back or side of the cabinet for a standard equipment AC cord to utilize. Secons would be to have a cut piece of Lexan that replaces the screen cover during shows to protect the monitor from direct impacts. I have seen lexan with an non-reflective coating so light reflections don't wash out the screen, although you said this wasn't an issue.
    Great work!

    Sweet build, thanks for sharing!
    Was thinking of doing something very similar but using a Raspberry PI B+ (runs Linux and runs around 40$ on Amazon) as the brains since it is very small and generates very little heat.

    Nice work, Matt! I'm still deciding between a pad mounted to my mic stand and this type of idea, possibly retrofitting a screen to an old floor monitor. BUT I will need to send a screen output to two other screens, so the keyboard player and bass player can have lyrics and chords also. (Drummers rarely need much. LOL) Thanks for posting this.

    How would you design this differently, if you were going to use it, at summer outdoor concerts, with bright sunlight beating down on the screen? Awesome concept, from a fellow DIYer!

    The LED backlit screen does a pretty good job in direct sun light. Maybe an attachable sun hood? a covered stage would be best :)

    The screen is pressed between the top plate and side rails - it's foamed all around the edges so it can't move.

  • @shortyswitch
    @shortyswitch  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @kaygee9345 - in windows, ctrl+alt+arrow, the arrows will change the direction of the screen, some video cards also support portrait vs landscape....

    This is something I need and have been looking for for a while now. I've looked at other sites and they are really expensive. I'm really looking to learn and build my own. What's the total cost of what you've built? If you are selling any that I can clone how much would it be for. I am really interested

    Matt, Hi! Great job! I am very interested in your lyric monitor. However, I need your input/suggestions on an application for me. I am a drummer/vocalist who uses index cards on a music stand. I would like to incorporate your system into gigs but wonder how I might adapt your system given my feet and hands being utilized while the song is playing and then quickly switching to the next song in a set while I am fixed to a drum throne. Ideas/ suggestions for me?

    How much does it weigh? Seems like it'd be fairly heavy. Also, have u tried to set your powerpoint to automatically scroll or is that just too dodgy for a live gig?

    • @shortyswitch
      @shortyswitch  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +brywool I actually never used it on a gig. It say it weighs about 25lbs, way less than a speaker wedge. I tried the auto scroll but I was also using it for rehearsal and we would stop in places and pick up in others so it was easier to have it all typed out. The box just sits in my basement.....

    • @brywool
      @brywool 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have the design plans for the enclosure? Once I have the measurements to make the cuts, I believe I could build this. If you have them handy, could you message them to me on facebook, or tell me where I could find the plans? Ray Pelyhes on Facebook. I am a singer and this would be a great help. Love your design.
