I went to work for CP&L in 1978 in the line crew. 2 months later all of us new hires went to lineman training school. No Bucksqueeze and greasy old creosote poles! Thank you, Mr. Grady Creech and Mr. Tom Daniels for being great teachers! 3 decades as a lineman and never fell off one because I was taught well. I've been retired 18 months....but I will ALWAYS be a lineman. Gentlemen, be safe, look out for your buddies and learn how to say thank you instead of getting mad if someone tells you "Don't do that". Enjoy your time guys....it goes by faster than you think. I have been a lineman since 87 (dam im old 😳 ) I was in IBEW class of 10/87 and there have been major improvements in climbing safety gear... What an advancement. Good instructors and line school.

The drone shop of all of the guys climbing was really cool. It is great to see how they progress as time goes on and the climbing gets smoother and smoother. Great video, thanks.

R they slow teaching the kids on purpose or something so they don’t realize they didn’t need a 4 month whatever long school?

It’s good to not rush these things. Being a lineworker is potentially very dangerous for a careless or poorly trained individual. You want to be trained very well. 4 months ain’t that long of training at all for a career. It takes doctors 10-15yrs and you have the potential to make that kinda money or more in prolly just 3-4. Not long at all

      I'm sorry what?
Most college kids waste tens of thousands of dollars and 4-6 *years* for dead end degrees. I have yet to hear anyone properly certified struggling to find lineman work. You also make bank after a few years, AND it's only a 4 months long...
      Come on now...
As the other guy above me said, other professions take *a lot longer* and this kind of work can seriously injure/kill you by taking shortcuts and or being so blasé about it.
I'm about to finish my degree in business management (last semester baby), but I have about a year and a half leftover on my GI bill. I'm considering getting some kind of trade cert for shits and giggles, as a fallback, homage to my working class upbringing, and out of respect for our blue collar workers busting their behinds keeping our society running in the background.
