  • Chilli thrips are bad news for rose gardens in warm climates. In this video I show you what signs to look out for and more importantly how to eliminate them for a healthy beautiful rose garden.

I've given up on roses. Thankfully there's plenty of other plants to love.

True! They are somewhat high maintenance and not for everyone.

Do I have to wait until fall to defoliate and cut back if I have damage now? We’re in the 80 to 90s temp wise and I don’t know if I should strip down my plant or not. Thank you!

I would just treat it with spinosad and cut off the infected blooms but not strip the leaves going into summer. Even with temperatures in the 90s, bare branches could get scorched with no leaf coverage and the plant could die back or worse.

How do you mix it? Do you just follow the directions on the bottle?

What if I have a no spray garden? Is there another way to deal with them?

You can try going the route of increasing the natural predators of chili thrips. Lacewings or minute pirate bugs can be purchased online and released in the affected area. I don't know how effective that is or how long it will take.
