NES Playaction Football was awesome. First time a game kept stats, first time you had a 3D field (kinda...it's why they used the angled screen), the game kept stats, a " commentator" delivering an outro (think Emrick/Olczyk NHL series intros...but hella primitive obviously), the game kept stats, a huge playbook for the time, oh, and the game kept stats! It took about two games to get used to the angle, but after that it was awesome. Waaaaay ahead of it's time. It was definitely a slow motion version of football, but it was way, way, waaaaay less clunky than the first few madden versions (Madden was a shit show for the first few versions). Great game period...years ahead of it's time!
Shh, let these shitters live in a world where they aren't fucking morons. They probably still buy every madden lmfao. This game was great when it came out!
I seem to remember John Elway's Quarterback having a funky glitch with the reverse play where your RB, or maybe WR, whoever ended up with the ball, being able to run ridiculously fast and every other player slowing to a crawl. Did you guys ever experience that?
I remember the time I had a kick return TD in Play Action football...from the moment the player received the kickoff, until when he took it to the house, I had time to grow a zz top beard, get married and have 2 kids. holy shit it was awful.
Drink a Beer and Play a Game For your information, "NFL" happens to be a very misunderstood game. Watch my video called "Ljn NFL NES Played Skillfully" and you will see why (extremely high scoring and plays made on both offense and defense). If you buy the game on ebay complete with manual, play chart, and dedicate some study time to those documents, it becomes fun to play. Even though the game has it's slowness and it's glitches, it is still enjoyable once you learn how to adjust to it's makeup.
barth82 yeah having the manual and cart would have helped a lot more. if we ever get our hands on it we can revisit this game and give it a fairer shot
All 3 stinkers is right. It's so ironic that it took Japanese programmers to make the first good NFL game in Tecmo Bowl. Tecmo Super Bowl is even better. Myself and others still play Tecmo Super Bowl with updated rosters! So much fun.
Jim after all the shit that you and I give Brian about saying ZEE-X Spectrum instead of the properly named ZED-X Spectrum, you went and did it yourself? BLASPHEMY!
Damn near every team? Really, you sure it's not all 28 NFL teams. Remember the NFL didn't expand until 1994. Then the second genius comment was when commenting on NES Football, you said.... You don't get all of them, but you do get a lot!! What? 8 out of 28 teams is a lot!! No wonder you guys stick with the old systems... The AI in the modern games would be much to hard for you to compete!

I really enjoyed it. Real players. Lots of choices for plays. The playoff mode. It was pretty cool.
NES Football was a great game for its time. The guy blinks so the defender knows who has the ball on option run, qb sneak etc.

Can't remember offhand but it's been ages since we played this. I'll take your word for it, haha
torchiest Yes! That's how I won most of the time.
Yeah if you hit the select button to run a play, I do remember that
There was a code you put in and buttons you held on a certain screen that made the qb go super fast

+TECMOBOWLvsRBI ^^^^easily one of the best comments we ever had
Neat game, but yeah, took forever.
This must be the poor mans Tecmo Super Bowl.
+bean420man there might be better tiger handhelds...
I remember the glitch with the receiver running at hyper speed.
Yea good ol NES glitches

I'm surprised nobody took a knee at 8:38!?
I bet if elway wouldn't have beat the browns in the afc championship it would have been Bernie kosar a football

avgn 😂😂😂😂
One of the worst football games ever. The defense was non existant.
