  • When it comes to electrification, Honda are making huge steps forward. The Civic is the next model to join the hybrid era! But what is it like?
    A big thank you to Honda for the loan!!

      You usa people are luckyer. You have gallons of petrol. We pay by liters. And here in Holland 1 litre costs around 2,05-2,12 € . And cars are much cheaper in the US. Here we have high taxes and also for climate.

    I've had my Civic e:hev since mid October 2022 and covered just under 55000km. Super happy, only gripes I have are the lack of cooled glovebox and larger fuel tank like I had in my KIA Cee'd JD. I paid far less for mine in Gibraltar in Sport trim - £25995.

    I'll keep my Civic Hybrid; it has a manual gearbox, they were sold from 2003-2005 with the five-speed; the Insight had a manual from 2000-2006, and the CR-Z 2011-2016. RIP manual hybrids; younger people won't know you existed, nor could drive you anyway!
    Comment is for fun inspired by the description of the video saying the Civic is 'joining the hybrid era'. Oh sweet summer child; the Civic was on showroom floors in 2002 as 2003 Civic Hybrid offered both in CVT and 5-speed Manual. Almost 22 years ago now and it was the second IMA hybrid they produced; some called them 'mild hybrids'. The Integrated Motor Assist(ed) by being sandwiched between the engine and transmission; providing assist to acceleration and deceleration at about 12hp; the later IMA unit in the 2013+ CR-Z could do 15hp normally and had a S+ button if temps were good and a relatively high battery charge would give an extra 5hp from the electric motor. The IMA system iirc died with the CR-Z.
    Enthusiasts have been able to crack the interface that controls the IMA; those users will either completely inhibit the electric motor; or control the strength and timing of its boost/braking capabilities. HPD and Mugen both took a hand at Supercharging the CR-Z as well; bumping it up to around the 200hp limit the engine internals can handle.
    This message was brought to you by engagement ... it helps a channel grow. Take care and have fun.

    I'm sure these hybrids don't have a gearbox , just a clutch mechanism.
    They do have a gizmo which gives fake impression of gear changes -- which can be disabled (unplugged)

    What is battery replacement price? Or is it like Toyota and you replace only the bad parts of the battery?

  • @gerrycollins2335
    @gerrycollins2335 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Weight saving of 43% sounds impressive, but for a bonnet that's only about 10kg. You'd save more by insisting passengers should diet before being allowed. Still, it's far better to drive a 1500kg car than a battery EV of over 2 tonnes. And the Civic Advance is only £105 short of the higher road tax bracket, so forget about any extra options (unless you want to pay for them for 5 years).

    Wow an English Honda civic? How amazing? It looks exactly like the ones out here in Canada and the US. I grew up seeing a lot of the older models especially silver ones 😊 . I guess the only difference about the English version is it’s basically the same car as you would find out here, but the drive controls are just reversed to the other side

    Amazing bodywork, very well kept. I like a bit of boot space as I find it very appealing... I carry heavy loads usually. As for the car its now £39779. For standard Sonic grey. Any other optional extras including a different paint colour then you'll be in the luxury car tax bracket and you will have to pay an obscene road tax price for the next 5 years. UK is crazy

    • @pillred5974
      @pillred5974 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not obscene it's £390 extra a year or £7.50 a week, hardly a deal breaker though it's annoying they have kept the same level of luxury car tax price the same for so long, it's the same with tax thresholds, it's a stealth tax.

    • @79blustone
      @79blustone 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @pillred5974 Road tax is a rip off,it's not being spent where is should be, instead it's just another revenue stream for the government. Anything on top is obscene. In this case, you will pay an extra £2100 for any single optional extra even that on top of paying more for a different paint colour option. I stand by my original comment of it being obscene.

    • @pillred5974
      @pillred5974 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What I meant is that £390 is not an obscene amount, but it's still a rip-off and can't really be justified especially freezing the amount at which it kicks in at for so long.@@79blustone

    Good overview, thank you!
    Owner of the Advance trim since October. My take:
    PRO
    - hybrid system is very good, like you said very smooth and fluid. Also consumption is mega (i realized sub 3.9l/100km on national roads, I use ACC a lot and 5l/100km on highway but I didn't drive above 130kmh)
    - I enjoy switching to sport when I feel like it, actually could be a CON as it is tempting and risks to accident increase 😅
    - ACC + other safety systems work very well, but with some small hicups like auto braking if it detectes an obstacle ...
    - steering, super grip and stability are top notch, including with winter tyres!
    - looks incredible, great job designers + very spacious for its class.
    - very simple and easy to use interior, nothing complicated
    - Bose sound system 🔥
    - most of interior materials are very good. I really like the white upper finish for Advance, makes the car even brighter in combination with the sunroof.
    - price is debatable as a similar 190hp hybrid corolla costs the same. Also as a man I couln't have bought a car called corolla obviously.
    CON
    - rear camera is super low res, ridiculos! especially in low light
    - power: I think they should have offered a trim with 200-210hp. Why keep same power as the previous 1.5l turbo? Toyota with new Prius saw the logic and it is offered with 195hp.
    - They could offer a SI hybrid with 230hp for example to create a hybrid icon 😁
    - seats, they don't offer thigh support and while I am not that tall ... at long roads it creates some pain. Still experimenting with different sear settings to see that works for me 🤞. Also a memory setting would have been clearly helpful in this case.
    - 40l tank, mixed usage it shows me 700-800km range, but a 50l would have been more assuring, especially as EV might reach 1k in the near future.
    - automatic door opening doesn't happens when you try to open rear doors only, v annoying
    - lack of electric hatch, but not that of a big deal for me
    - some cheap plastic around center console and in the back
    - back seats center arm rest is very low, flimsy.
    - such a small glove compartment, you have to use the center console for storage.
    - infotainment software needs to improve, have problems with wifi connections, with radio setup, how to i delete a radio station?? many things to optimize there
    - regenerative braking paddles are kind of useless, very nerdy for sure. I think i pulled the right paddle 1 or 2 times in 3 months 🤷‍♂
    Overall I think Honda put cost cutting in top priorities and with current high prices might be good for their bottom line, but if competition from EV increases and we get a mild recession ... this might backfire.
