    Regular decks about 1.5 inches high
    Commander decks: about 2-3 inches high
    Sleeved decks: about 3 inches high
    Sleeved commander decks: 5-6 inches high
    Double sleeved decks: 4-5 inches high
    Double sleeved commander decks: you need a step ladder to draw every turn and shuffling takes days

    The trick with dragon shield double sleeving is to lay an unsleeved card on top of the perfect fit card, and slide both into the dragon shield sleeve. Then just remove the unsleeved card carefully and you're done.
    It's not ideal if you don't have a lot of time, but the seal that these create is unbeatable imo.

  • @TolarianCommunityCollege

    The Ultra Pro mattes do indeed have a great feel while shuffling. They don't do as good a job protecting the card, and if you play a lot then you might get a little whitening of the border of your card at the top. Ultra Pros are also most likely to split. If you can, try the new KMC "HYPER" Matte sleeves. They have the same feel as the Ultra Pro Mattes when shuffling, but do a much better job protecting your card.

  • @mkdalynn
    @mkdalynn 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    You can also triple sleeve. Use a penny sleeve over the doubled sleeve. This lets you have the patterned sleeves that tend to peel, or just keep your dragon shields in good condition as penny sleeves are much less than dragon shields.

    Just a quick tip for double sleeving with KMC Perfect Fits and Dragon Shield Sleeves.
    If you use an (unsleeved) spare common and slide it in together with the KMC perfect fit, it doesn't get stuck on the plastic, but slides in smoothly, no readjusting needed. After you can simply slide out the common.
    If there is still resistance, two commons can be used to create a sandwitch.

    Definitely doing this once I pimp out my Oloro EDH deck. My Oloro is altered, and the paint needs the extra protection. So you know, I have also tried Ultra Pro perfect fit sleeves inside KMC and Dragon Shield outer sleeves, and unlike their outer sleeves, I can safely say that Ultra Pro perfect fits are actually a decent product. They're pretty on-par with KMC perfect fits, in fact.

    If your having trouble double sleeving and the KMC sleeves slide up when you put the card in (Like 1:37), all you have to do is take the card with the perfect fit on it, and put another un sleeved card over it and slide them both into the outer sleeve and then remove the unsleeved card once they are fully in the outside sleeve! works every time

    Double sleeving in Dragon Shields with Ultra Pro Pro-Fit sleeves works just fine. Normally I'd argue against using Ultra Pro sleeves, but the Pro-Fit sleeves work just fine for double-sleeving and are pretty cheap. Since the Pro-Fit sleeve is the inner sleeve, it won't feel the wear and tear of shuffling and playing, and such, tearing is not a problem. And Dragon Shield sleeves last for years on end.

    Glad I found this video again because I thought I was losing my mind trying to double sleeve cards with my current stock of extra ultra pros and dragon shields. I only have a few KMC Hyper mats, but the sleeving is much easier with those and I'm not convinced the extra seal from going super tight on the dragon shields is worth the extra effort.
    What I find really weird is that the ultra pros sometimes work as easily as the KMCs, but only after the pack has been opened and they are left sitting upstairs in my bedroom where I'm doing the sleeving for a day.

    Very nice. I just started double sleeving my more expensive cards... I also found that you can do it with Ultrapro too...it's a tight fit, but I found that you can actually get your finger under the ultrapro front plastic once the card and perfect fit are in, and slide it down. This prevents the double sleeve from moving, as it translates the pressure to it and the card underneath, allowing them to slide right down.

    I've been on and off again dabbling in MtG after maybe a decade long hiatus and really appreciate the videos for helping me figure out some of the odds and ends like this!
    Thankfully, I was pretty thorough with sleeving way back when I played (Mirage through Invasion blocks) so almost all of my cards are still in great shape. (Side note: the vast majority of my sleeves from back then were Ultra Pro clears and they seem to be made way differently than their modern equivalents.) I've got a few decks that hold my most valuable cards (and wow are they pricey now!) like a play set of Force of Wills, Rishidan Ports, Rofellos, and a Cradle so I'm considering double sleeving them with the KMCs. I'm a little nervous about the long term storage prospect- do you feel like they've been in the market long enough to trust their Acid free/archival quality claims- especially for the inner Perfect Fits? Not that I'm planning on another decade hiatus but it could happen...

  • @HeretixAevum

    Whilst I agree with you about the protection benefits of double sleeving, I just don't like it from an ergonomic standpoint. I just got into magic and on your recommendation tried double sleeving with the perfect fits and hyper mattes. Double sleeving just made the deck far too thick and unwieldy, and totally ruined the amazing shuffle feel of the KMC Hyper Mattes. I'd sum up double sleeving like this (for me personally):
    Pros:
    - Great protection for your cards
    - ???
    - ???
    Cons:
    - Increases the cost of sleeving your decks by at least 40%+ which in the long run is a fair bit of money
    - Deck becomes too thick to shuffle comfortably
    - Limits your choice of deck boxes due to extra space required
    - Double sleeving is a much more arduous task than single sleeving
    - More air gets trapped in your sleeves this way and takes a little while to go away
    - The vibrant colours of the artwork on your cards are dulled by the extra layer of plastic
    I can see why some people swear by double sleeving, but I just didn't like it ultimately. I think you could have better illustrated the ergonomic effects double sleeving has on a deck, because I find it's enormously significant, and for me and many other people it's a deal breaker. If you have OCD, or a ludicrously expensive deck, knock yourself out. Resleeving cards is a rarity (and I do it gently) and I always play on a playmat with clean hands and keep my deck in it's deckbox when not in use, which is sufficient protection for my sensibilities. YMMV

      Science lecture? Hardly. I'm a professor of English. You misspelled both 'hilarious' (halarius) and 'lunatic' (lunitic). Also, you should have placed an apostrophe in 'he's' (hes) and there were numerous errors in use of both capitalization and punctuation, such as omitted commas and question marks. You might also want to consider some variation in regards to vocabulary, as you use 'hilarious' twice within such a short message.
      Your message should have read more like this: LOL! This guy is hilarious! He's giving us a whole science class. Is he being a lunatic on purpose or is he just insane? Either way, this guy is hysterical!
      Now, normally I teach college, but I was more than happy to offer a brief lesson at the second grade level for you.

    I know this video is a bit older, but I just learned a trick from a friend about double sleeving dragon shields. I apologize for my horrible skills at explanation in advance. Anyways, he showed me that first you put the perfect fit on of course, then you take two trash cards and put them one on each side of the sleeved card. Then you put all three cards into the dragon shield sleeve and use the two trash cards to push the perfect fitted card into the dragon shield sleeve while pulling them out. IIt's actually quite fast "as far as sleeving goes" and after the first 2 cards sleeved this way I breezed through double sleeving my edh deck without ever having to redo a single one.

  • @LaylaVaughan
    @LaylaVaughan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tolarian Community College I have started double sleeving now, using KMC Hypers and Dragon shields. I see what you meant about the dragon shields being a chore to sleeve. Sometimes it was near impossible to double sleeve with particular KMC perfect fits. Funny enough trying a different KMC perfect fit might yield a perfect result. I assume there are tiny variations in KMC sleeve sizes that are just enough to make a difference. However, both sleeves -- especially the dragonshields -- seem to keep a lot of air. Even when I have the air pressed out very hard, they instantly re-inflate. I've stored them in a very tight fitting box to keep the pressure on them to keep air out, but as soon as they are taken out, the card stack expands 3 times the size. It's pretty tough to play when your EDH deck is 4-5 inches tall.

      You can watch my video on Deck Boxes (look at my channel) to see the best kinds: an Ultra Pro Pro-Dual 120 for a budget deck box (about 5 bucks, USD) that holds 2 double-sleeved standard decks, or for something very fancy you can spring for the Ultra Pro Satin Tower (about 10-12 bucks, USD).

    Just gonna point it out since I only recently found out. While it is true that the older DS sleeves will have the problem mentioned in the video( I almost tore up my cards trying to do it with some black DS sleeves), they appear to have changed how they print sleeves with the newer colors. I know from experience that with Turquoise DS sleeves, double sleeving is very easy, cards slide in perfectly and the perfect fit doesn't ride up like it did with the black sleeves.

I found myself having to sleeve all of my cards with an additional card on both sides so that it would slide in instead of sticking and coming unsleaved in the process. I wish I would went with the KMC

  • @michaela71
    @michaela71 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Might need a video update on this one. I notice that you insert the card in the inner sleeve by pushing on the bottom edge of the card. When I started double sleeving I used to do this and found that sometimes the fit would be tight and pushing on the bottom edge of the card would accidentally fold and crease the card. A better way is to stick your thumb on the card and have your index finger on the outside bottom of the card. Gently rub your index finger down, with pressure on the sleeve, and push your thumb on the card up as if you were rubbing your thumb against your index finger. This works with just about any fit of perfect fit sleeves and avoids the possibility of creasing a card.
