The two I hear the most often that drive me nutty are “often” and “mischievous”, though I hear almost all of them! Sadly, I’ve mispronounced a few of those myself. My daughter (with both English and ELL/ESL degrees) says language is changing all the time, so some of these pronunciations will become acceptable with wide use….such as saying the “l” in almond. Also “jewelry” - with one “l” - is the American spelling and pronunciation, whereas “jewellery” is correct in Canada and the UK.
The Athlete has powerful muscles. NOT "The athlete has got powerful muscles." Poor grammar! I disagree with "Com-fert-able" too. That is a lazy pronounciation. Com-fort-able is correct.
It depends where you live! In the UK the correct pronunciation of a lot of these words can be either ie the Chambers Dictionary states ‘often’ can be both ways. You should make it more obvious that you are referring to American English not English!
I had a lot of fun trying to guess how some of these words could be pronounced incorrectly! But you nailed it, your pronunciation is correct! I noticed a lot of the words people have trouble with are French in origin, so it's not surprising they don't get it if they speak no French. Me? English. With good French. And old enough to have been taught good language skills in school. Not like today...........hmm....🙂
You are totally right! I couldn't agree more. It's like a plague. I need to study this beautiful and " musical language, but what some ""teachers" have been " teaching" nowadays... it's unbearable. Thank you for your reaction to this " plague" that has been spreading in these so called "courses."
Yes, and, according to this video, those pronunciations are incorrect. You know: common mispronunciations...it means a lot of people do it, that's why you hear it all the time ! Got it now ?
I’m British. “Mis-chee-vius” is unfortunately just the way some uneducated British people pronounce the word. Just because some English folk pronounce it incorrectly, that doesn’t make it right. Also, dialect has nothing to do with it. Wrong is wrong. 🤷🏻♀️🤷♀️
@@carronalee I agree. I'm English and one of my pet hates is 'mischeevious'. That word just doesn't exist. But you hear it a lot. Often has got me more curious. I thought I said 'often' rather than 'offen' but now I'm not sure. When you're speaking quickly it just comes out as ofn.
This is an excellent video. Yours truly would like to point out the following: 01. The phoneme of the second syllable of picture is pronounced "-cher", rather than "-shur". Thanks.
Video on daily use English sentences of questions & answers will help us greatly to learn English better and faster with correct intonations in slow speed and normal speed.
Language and pronunciation does change over time...my Grand Mother used to say Oofen for often and The Gels for Girls and Oh Rherly... for really... think Maggie smith in "Downton"...Its Pretty much spot on it was her generation
This is common, many say, "pitcher" instead of "pic-ture". Also, I have noticed that alot of millennials, don't pronounce their "t's. Like, instead of "kitten, curtain, or button", they say, "kit-un, cur-un, or bu-un."
Hello, I am from Türkiye, I would like to thank you for the way of your teaching. You are so good. No one I met like you. Can I ask if there is PDF of the lists you are teaching, to download them?
Library….Li-berry…. A big pet peeve for me. But…I shouldn’t be so uppity. Though I know the correct pronunciation for all these words, I realized that I regularly mispronounce 2 of them. “Pronunciation” is one. I wondered why the 3rd syllable in “mispronounce” is spoken and spelled with “noun”. So I looked it up. Interesting (another commonly mispronounced word🥴) explanation.
some of these pronunciations are purely regional. "Comfterbul" is an example. btw, is it just bluetooth or do most of the initial vowels get clipped here?
Hii... I am form India and this video is very much usefull to me... 😀
This should be shown in every school and college in the country! 👌

Cachet is a separate word. As for cavalry, have often heard people mispronounced it as "cal-va-ry."
DRC is close to Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, Rwanda, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, and Angola
