    Charlemagne’s dismissiveness about Amara La Negra’s issues with colorism and asking if it’s all in her head? Is similar to how SOME white folk responds to racism. SMH.

      Him questioning Amara is similar to the comment “I don’t see color,” said by many white people to show that they are not racist. Although their intentions might be good, ignoring color can cause people to dismiss the argument that some people are more privileged than others in terms of skin tone.

      Shinel and Charlemagne is the same man who tried to bleach his skin, but claims colorism isn't real. Are you sure it's not all in your head? That's the same trash question people get when they try to explain racism that they've faced. Are you sure it happened that way? Maybe you misunderstood?

This needs to change ask any Latino out there darker tones are dismissed it’s a fact. ilia calderon the newest anchor women in Univision is getting hate for being an Afro Latina after Maria Elena Salinas who was a lighter Latina. They are claiming she is too “Morena”.

    • @dashanee0390

      Mia Carter exactly, a lot of darker skin black men are just as insecure and suffer from self esteem issues as well. Men, esp black men, are not good at articulating it because of their pride. So they displace their issues on darker skin black women (without resoluting their internal conflict) and date someone lighter or whiter, all in the name of "preference". Its a shame.

    • @luisomar1749
      @luisomar1749 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't alot of black men go for black women tho and then there's black men who like dating all types. Just because someone picks somebody of a lighter shade or just another race don't mean they despite their own kind. Just because someone picks someone who ain't as black as you don't mean they don't like darkskins. Maybe he didn't like you specifically, maybe you need to step your game up and then most black women prefer going for the players and thugs, but don't give the good black man a chance.

    It's not just African and Latin cultures. It's experienced all over the world. It's sad how different races view dark skin within their own race. We need more documentaries and discussions about this and where it stems from.

    • @davidelliott1594
      @davidelliott1594 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Sleepydiva504 Historic colonization, global media, all are factors in colorism. Europeans didn't only colonize the Americas. Historically, different European groups invaded and colonized most of Africa, large parts of Asia, India included, Australia, large parts of the Middle East , etc, and in colonization, imposed their standards of beauty.
      Then in certain lighter skinned Asian countries, historically"poor" people who did the labor jobs in the sun often were darker skinned because of laboring in the sun day in and day out, whereas wealthy people were mostly indoors and/or shaded most of the time, so in many of those cultures, light skin became associated with wealth and status and darker skin associated with poverty and manual labor, and wealth and status is always considered "beautiful."
      Then there is the modern global media, which is controlled by people with certain set of phenotypes, and markets certains complexions as the standard of ideal beauty, and people absorb that into their subconsious. Media is an extremely influential force. This is why adequate and appropriate media representation is so important for people of color.

    It's not just in Hollywood or high-level celebrities, it's even in subliminal things like music videos where they mainly case light skin or non-black women as the romantic interest or in commercials or even as love interests in real life. This is nothing new and isn't anything different just because it's in Latin America. Black people, not matter your nationality, were colonized, especially in the Americas, and STILL suffer the effects of white supremacy. Hell, it's not even just Black people, but all people of color who experience this. It's a systematic structure that was implemented hundreds of years ago and that was meant to last for generations, and unfortunately, it's still working.. and we keep falling for this bullshit.

No doubt how Haitians are treated is disgusting as all hell(and reason I personally refuse to visit D.R) but any black persons problem is a black problem..point black period. Just like the Haitians are being treated because of what they look like(black) her and others are getting treating because of what they look like(black)

Unfortunately our race has been completely turned against one another and taught to hate one another. I know i dont know the situation down there but you guys are right next to each other and the fact that the difference is so extreme is sad. Just like here.

Black women have been trying to say this for ever but no one listens and we are dismissed, disrespected--daily, moment by moment. Black men perpetrate this issue against black women more than any group of people here in the US. Amara, is actually talking about all black women. She is right.

    Did anyone else notice how quiet the dark skinned man in the room was; and when he did speak, he (very slyly) tried to on some level defend Charlamagne. "See, he was coming from the standpoint of", "Black female insecurities", "I GET THAT". It was subtle, but he was (on the low) coming to Charlamagne's defense. I wonder how uncomfortable it was for him to sit with these light skinned men who were GOING IN on this mentality and stating the OBVIOUS when (on the low) he probably shares Charlamagne's sentiments. Just watch his body language and his expressions. He's suspect.
