I've never had any crypts from the Co-op melt for me. I find that leaving it in the rockwool pot after shipping makes it transition better in the new tank.
I'm new to Vallisneria, but I'm trying to find a good plant to help drop nitrates in my 75-gallon goldfish tank. I started with 7 Amazon swords along the back of the tank, but the ones in the corners have taken a beating from the shurbunkins I own (fantails have left them alone). I've tried filling gaps with Vallisneria, but it remains to be seen if it can outgrow the level of abuse it takes. I have anurius, but until I control nitrates, the algae threaten them. I'm also throwing excess duckweed and frogbit in from other tanks to give the fish something else to chew on between meals as a diversion. If I can get the Vallis thick enough I hope to hide some anacharis in there as well. Other than a small piece of driftwood and some flat shale with decorative polished rocks (amethyst, tiger eye, etc.) I don't keep much hardscape to provide open swimming for the faster goldies and safety for a moor and a butterfly telescope's eyes. Other than nitrates the water is fine. I have some potos clippings that work wonders on other nutrients.
Roommate had a dead tank with no lights and an inch of water. Was like that in a basement for eight months. There was an anubia in there that survived, it's currently pride of place in one of my planted tanks.
I've grown all these plants, and many of them I still do - all of which came from you! I now grow everything in sand which is spot on with your remarks. It's been a slow process but definitely doable. I've enjoyed and learned so much from all your videos, thank you for continuing with content like this. Living in Moses Lake I cannot frequent your store but every time we make it over the mountains we stop by and always enjoy our experience. Fortunately, ordering from your site is easy and shipping is always fast. My favorite from this video - the wendtii green! I waited so long to try crypts and once I finally did I couldn't be more happy. Beautiful plants, my corys love them and we love the color. Cheers from eastern WA!
Such an informative website and channel, happy to see Cory has grown his business and community so well , definitely took a time but it is rewarded well
I remember this livestream. I've listened to it a couple of times on the podcast app. This is a good way to distill the most pertinent information in an updated format.
My number 1 recommendation for beginners to planted tanks who don't mind a minute of weekly trimming is Heteranthera zosterifolia aka stargrass. It's similar to pogo stellatus visually but grows faster. It really seems to help prevent algae in a new set up, and can be trimmed into very nice looking bushes. Nano fish also absolutely love it as it provides pockets of dense cover.
@@Smoshylife yes, I've had 40-50 cm long stems matting on the surface when I've let it go. If you keep trimming and replanting you can easily achieve a lush 10-12 inch tall bush. Replant the stems on their side if you want it to grow more compact. Search tropica layout 10 or 105 for some nice examples.
This is the 2nd one that I am seeing from you. You made it easier to absorb for this old lady and even got me smiling a few times listening to the pros and cons. I will check out your website now because I really learned a lot about the plants... and even a few that I think that I might want to try out. I had not had a fish tank since 2005 and just treated myself to a nice size 6.6 gallon for my Betta. I saved this video in my Watch Later list as I want to listen to it again. Thanks for doing another great video.
1:00 - I agree a beginner should stick to root tabs and gravel, but the thing is valisneria or swordtails grow way better with 1 inch of pond compost and no less than 2 inches of light gravel / coarse sand... or just plain aquasoil. Anubias has some issue with algae, so less light is more in this case. Sometimes leaves or roots start to melt away, while no other plant has this issue.
I’ve been very successful with the plants I got from you. I use Diane Walstad’s method for lighting period. It keeps Algae down to a minimum. I actually leave about one fourth of my aquarium to let algae grow. Shrimps and Otocinclus enjoy feeding on certain Algae. I even seen my Guppies and Mickey Mouse Platyies feeding on the Algae. Your plants are excellent. From the slow growing Cryptocoryne Wendtii to the Water Sprite, which I float some of the Plantlets that grows. I sold everything I had , because I moved from Arizona to Florida. I will be starting a new aquarium soon. Thank you for you excellent service and great quality plants. You always done right by your customers. I know your a little more expensive than others, but with your awesome service; it doesn’t matter. Thank you for your service to your customers.

I bought an anubias nana from Aquarium CoOp a couple years ago, when I was having a bad black beard algae issue. It was just furred with it almost immediately but it didn’t quit, just kept pushing out a new leaf. A couple of months ago, I added hornwort back to my tank and that out competed the algae. Even under all that stress, it went from 3 or 4 leaves to covering the 5 inch driftwood I anchored it to. Thing is bulletproof.
I really like the looks of aquariums withouts lids. I had one like it. But I had a lot of fish loses. 😞 So now I am going for a lid and try to think of a way to make it look as elegant as lidless one.

Please!!! Someone help!!! Jus got a banana plant from aquarium co-op website as well as a 10 gallon filter. Received both yesterday and added a squirt of easy green jus to help it jus in case. I have a LED light that sits in the tank that I got on Amazon that has 5 levels of brightness. Yesterday I had the lighting on the 2 level and looked this morning and the leaves are melting.. the base of the roots is kind of brown while the leaves are see through/white. Anything will help 😭🙏🏻
Hi there Guys i m facing one problem with my plants like they are turning brown from bottom side and only top portion is green , i m providing 8hrs of light and diy co2 and EI dosing fertilizer. Does anyone know what will be the cause and solution, please advice me
I've actually turning my aquarium into vivarium, only reason is severum. I had Java fern , Amazon sword ..... gone . I've now cabomba, hornwort, water wisteria....... they're fighting their max with my severums. I've tried feeding my severums spinach, lettuce and some other leaves. They do eat those but still they nip on my wisteria. Which plant severum don't eat ?
Easy green fertilizer is legit! I definitely recommend! BEWARE!! There are certain people that will tell you that you only need fertilizer in your tank if you use CO2. Couldn’t be farther from the truth. Everything about your aquarium needs balance . Lights might need to be adjusted, maybe a shorter light period, maybe even a little less fertilizer if you have a super rich aqua soil. The point is plants need food just like your fish. Don’t blame fertilizers .
idk why peopel say that sand is hard to grow plants in, every plant I've tried in it has taken off like nothing. Gravel gave me way more trouble from how much harder it is to thoroughly plant in it, making me have to replant often.
I would say from personal experience it’s hard to have a planted aquarium, at least planted into the substrate, there has to be more than an inch to have its stay in place.
i agree with most of these plants, but dont try java fern, at least its to happy in my tank, constantly grows babys on its leaves and sends out ugly brown roots everywhere. I gave all mine away cause it never looked good and the old leaves were constantly dying. Litterally every other day i was dealing with this
*Disadvantages of having aquarium plants* Live aquarium plants need good lighting Live aquarium plants need CO2 injections to thrive Live aquarium plants need added fertilizer Live aquarium plants need aquarium plant soil Live aquarium plants make it harder to clean the tank. Live aquarium plants are hard to keep alive. Live aquarium plants can carry parasites and pest snails Live aquarium plants require more care Live aquarium plants are more expensive Live aquarium plants take up oxygen at night. Live aquarium plants require trimmings Live aquarium plants may die Live aquarium plants may get eaten Live aquarium plants will be infested with algae is a matter of time. Live aquarium plants cannot be kept with large fish. Each live aquarium plant needs a particular water conditions such as pH, water hardness, and water temperature to thrive. Dead aquarium plants, old decaying aquarium plant leaves need to be removed immediately, as it will quickly rot in the warm, bacteria-laden water. *Advantages of having aquarium plants* Aquarium plants purify the water just like land plants purify the air. Aquarium plants produce oxygen during the day Aquarium plants add beauty to the tank. Aquarium plants provide hiding places for fish and shrimp.

LOVE your plants (snail & amphipod-free, thank you)! I just need more goldfish-proof options. My jerk-goldfish think it’s fun to nip off the growing-tips of my valisneria, by the way, so they don’t grow fast or tall in my tank. 😠
Also I left the light on them for about 5 hours on the banana plant
Just ordered my first bottle of easy green and a little Monte-Carlo from y'all, so excited to get it!
Hi there
Guys i m facing one problem with my plants like they are turning brown from bottom side and only top portion is green , i m providing 8hrs of light and diy co2 and EI dosing fertilizer.
I want to know about plants that can withstand a clown loach.😊
I emailed the other day and the fellow said your not going to be selling the Fluval light anymore?
I saw this video long time ago, what up with new content
Is that a green screen of the old look 😀
Easy green fertilizer is legit! I definitely recommend! BEWARE!! There are certain people that will tell you that you only need fertilizer in your tank if you use CO2. Couldn’t be farther from the truth. Everything about your aquarium needs balance . Lights might need to be adjusted, maybe a shorter light period, maybe even a little less fertilizer if you have a super rich aqua soil. The point is plants need food just like your fish. Don’t blame fertilizers .
Your great. Drop mike( very helpful, thanks buddy)
I usually keep my aquarium plants alive except for anything red. My Mystery snails destroy anything that's red.
idk why peopel say that sand is hard to grow plants in, every plant I've tried in it has taken off like nothing. Gravel gave me way more trouble from how much harder it is to thoroughly plant in it, making me have to replant often.
Live plants and aquariums should go hand in hand. The benefits of having a natural filter far outweigh any drawbacks.
Unless, y'know, the fish are herbivores
I tried them all, but none of them tasted well enough to repeat the experience ^^
👍🏻👍🏻
i have jungle val... did you say 8 feet?!?!?
I can't keep Java plant alive in my aquariums that have a pH of 8-8.2 but they thrive in my 7.6 tank
Litterally every other day i was dealing with this
Pizza Hut used to do a pizza with pigs in a blanket as the crust!
the only thing i hate about VAL is its like 4+ foot long and basically is the same as duck weed
But my Swords have Green Spot Algae all over the leaves, my light is not too strong or on for too long either, why is it going like that please???
By far the best plant for any aquarium is duckweed!!! Lol
4:15 not CO2 as plant steroids 😂
Those prices are not the same now 😅😅
😭anyone know how to get rid of staghorn algae? I tried more flow and liquid carbon and nope
First!
