@@User5hdbh I don't think that's quite accurate, I don't think that the scene at the end of bleach can be or will be replicated it was a special circumstance. I think the true zangetsu is the white and black blade with the chain, and the blade we see at the beginning and the end is what zangetsu looks like without any influence from his hollow or quincy. Think about it, when ichigo first activates "zangetsu" after shattered shaft two things happened, the first is that old man zangetsu showed himself to ichigo and then right after suppressed white and the zangetsu we see is one where white has little to no influence, canonically white has never taken control of Ichigo in his base/shikai state it only happens in bankai because tensa zangetsu brings his hollow side forward. In the final battle with yhwach ichigo touches down for a rematch with yhwach and at this time ichigos hollow and quincy reiatsu have been completely drained from him he is running on his shinigami powers I think that it might be a stretch to say he is in bankai at this point despite the appearance of tensa zangetsu. There's a couple things that point to ichigo actually being in his base form the first is the colour of his getsuga tenshou, bankai getsuga is always black that's the rule it's a different attack from shikai getsuga which is gold. When ichigo fires a getsuga at yhwach in this fight it's gold. The second part is yhwachs inability to break tensa zangetsu, yhwach says specifically that he's gone into the future and broken all bankai so at the point in the story nobody had bankai, ichigos blade only cracked and i think that's because yhwach didn't target ichigo specifically and Ichigo wasn't in a bankai state at all that the damage was only superficial because his zanpakuto was in its sealed form. Without white being present zangetsu isn't a true zanpakuto he isn't present any time that we see ichigo wielding this larger zangetsu blade. Tldr; the blade referred to as true zangetsu isn't true zangetsu at all it's an inferior blade that manifests when white is suppressed and old man zangetsu is suppressing him and Ichigo only transitioned seamlessly between bankai and sealed state because he had no hollow powers at the time so he wasn't in bankai to begin with.
I wish Ichigo's sealed sword was his original Bankai blade, but now with a white sheath. Then, the sword and scabbard would turn into two swords for shikai before fusing into 1 for Bankai.
I just realized that Ichigo might have done what Aizen did with his Zanpakuto and merged with it, whatever effect that it has Ichigo now possesses it as a passive ability just like Aizen.
At first when I saw old zangetsu came back for the final blow, I was very disappointed. I felt like all this journey was made for nothing. Like all the character development was erased in one second. But after the years, when I see this picture, it makes me happy. Because now I see it like this : The dual blades was the symbolic of his parent’s heritage. I legit broke down when i saw the OG Zangetsu used for the final blow. It took me back in time all those years ago when he first awoke as a substitute shinigami.
He can Change between the forms of his true shikai. Its not a new "unreleased" form that goes into True Shikai, that is true shikai, he can just change between the forms. Not any weaker or stronger

Minor correction: there's no confirmation the smaller blade is the sheathe, there's a great case to be made about the bigger one being the scabbard. A much better one in fact. In fact, I've never seen anyone with any arguments for the smaller blade being the scabbard beyond the fact it instinctively make more sense for his shinigami powers to be the blade.

The most interesting thing from the tybw arc is that you can have different powers based onnyour perspective. Changinf the name of your shikai or bankai could give you a different effect. We've seen this not only with ichigo and Tosen but many kther characters too. Renji for one has 2 bankai he can choose to use. Im.sure ichigo has more than one bankai as well. It will be cool to see them explore this more.
Tid bit of neat bleach Lore. After the events of TYBW in the second light novel of CFYOW going into hell arc, Ichigo confronts Urahara about his shady reasoning to why he hid the hogyoku inside Rukia. To avoid spoilers… an altercation ensues leading to Urahara using his bankai to surgically line up Ichigo’s nappy ass ginger head and give him a low taper fade so he can finally bag that bad bit Orahime. I also made all this up, type shit💀
I like to assume what we see in the hell arc is his zanpakuto sealed form, and his twin swords would be now his shikai form, and later the sheath and true form are his Bankai form and ability.
I suppose that makes sense. Ikkaku uses both his sword and sheath in combat, and combines the two to unleash his shikai, Hozukimaru...And several other shinigami can choose whatever form to have their Zanpakuto in, like Urahara and Genryusai choosing to keep theirs as a walking cane by default, when they likely used to look like ordinary katana when they first got it.
For a while, I thought that he had lost/resealed (not intentionally) his Quincy powers and returned to his previous one sword Shikai after Yhwach had forcefully stripped him of his power during their fight. I may be mis-remembering this as it's been years since I reread their fight, but I think at some point Yhwach steals Ichigo's "power" stripping him of blut. I always just assumed that his Bankai broke seemingly so easily because the Quincy power was nearly completely drained at that point, so his normal Shikai was more durable as it was solely made from his Shinigami and hollow power. I'm not saying that Ichigo doesn't have his Quincy power, just that he probably needs another moment similar to the Jail situation where his soul absorbed Quincy reishi to reawaken his dormant Quincy power. But I like this explanation better, amd it kinda affirms my assumption that the Quincy power was weakened considering Ichigo just absorbed the remaining bits into his base sword. Either way, it's pretty cool.
The Quincy element was a parasite presence that leeched/suppressed his true powers and turned Ichigo against his true sword. So yeah, it absolutely weakened him to the umpteenth degree. I stand by the notion that it should've been expelled completely, robbing Yhwach of any control and influence he once had over Ichigo. Thus Ichigo 'breaks free' of the Quincy's fate of being devoured by Yhwach upon death/auswählen.

My thought process was that after Yhwach had stolen Ichigo's power, he would need that kind of exposure to Quincy power once more to reawaken his dormant powers, similar to how it took absorbing bits of Quige's Jail to reawaken his power that presumably was sealed back when he was a child and Yhwach used Auswahlen (He lived because his soul is more complex with different powers co-existing). The "True Zangestsu" that appeared after Yhwach destroyed the sheath is a call back to Ichigo's original zanpakotou that he got in the first episode/chapter (obviously) and it also subtly showcases how he had all this power from the very beginning of the series but he wasn't able to use them comfortably before because of OMZ's interference in his powers and his mental constraints. But as soon as he accepts himself and his powers as he/they are, his zanpakotou becomes a single large blade, showcasing the union of his powers and his immense reiatsu. PS - I also love the fact that Ichigo can switch between his dual blades and "True Zangestsu" in the hell arc chapter. He can use his dual blades when he is fighting multiple enemies and can then switch back to the single blade when he is fighting a single strong enemy.
Zangetsu did have a sheath back in the beginning of the substitute soul reaper arc when it was just a big sword. It was in its sealed form. The giant butchers knife is his shikai. Black Katana is his bankai. True Zangetsu would also be in its shikai because Ichigo never reseals his zanpakto after Renji breaks it and he gets his own soul reaper powers
I believe that's a sealed sword of some kind. Through out the series Ichigo's power was always held back; this is him doing it by his own will. I image older Ichigo has more control over his power, plus it makes sense that a really powerful being is still allowed to live in the human world if he had some kind of suppression of his power.
His control over his power is insane at this point given the fact that Shunsui believed Ichigo might not be able to come to the Human World because how powerful he was becoming and being a Soul King candidate Ichibe would've made Ichigo take the Soul King's place as the linchpin if the plan failed, so it can be assumed that Ichigo had reishii comparble to the Soul King or enough reishii to keep the three worlds divided.
I thought it was a nice touch that the larger sword dispersed into red motes of reiatsu (the colour of his Hollow powers) while the smaller sword dissipated into blue motes (the colour of his Quincy reiatsu in the original anime) before both turn Ichigo’s yellow as he accepts them as part of himself.
I believe the white clothes in his old shikai do represent the scabbard. I mean, i can be wrong, but this would pair well with kubo sensei saying that every zanpakuto has a Sheathe.
(this brought about a realization/theory, so its a kinda long one before you start reading) And lets not forget that Ichigo's single blade zangetsu uses its hand wrap/ cloth trailing it as a wrap/sheathe for the sword itself when Ichigo is not using it and has it on his back. In fact, Itd be better, IMO, to kind of assume now given all of the series that the sword and the handle wrap were both the representations of all of ichigo's power all this time as well, and that the wrap simply became its own sword proper and made this more apparent is all. This is great because its a good visual representation of Old Man Zangetsu/ Ichigo's quincy powers "sheathing" the actual sword/White/Ichigo's actual hollow/shinigami powers but letting out the blade to use still. Its all filtered through OMZ controlling and limiting his powers. Add to this that both versions of ichigo's bankai prior to TYBW also had the white wrap turn into a chain attached to Tensa Zangetsu, and even wrapping up his arm when he came out of the Dangai to face Aizen. Essentially, this whole thing as always been the case, Ichigo's blade proper represented his shinigami powers but the handle wrap has always been the representation of the quincy powers, becoming a chain for the compressed sword in bankai. Now ichigo uses it the same way in the hell arc, but can turn the wrap into a proper weapon for his Quincy powers. This might mean that while it can actually cut still, the TYBW bankai we saw broken immediately is actually *still sheathed the whole time* technically, and that Ichigo might unleash even more power, sort of like his final hit against Yhwach when it broke away, it just didnt get a good showcase cue to story events.
I like to think if the Hell Arc happens, this will be treated as Ichigo having two shikais or rather, the big kitchen knife is his sealed form while the two blades are his shikai. Basically Ichigo is so powerful that his sealed zanpakuto is a shikai. Also would be cool to hear Ichigo call out zangetsu when he summons the two blades.
I think at this point since ichigo is a fusion of all the supernatural races, human, shinigami, quincy, and hollow it's essentially "rules stopped applying"

Saying that unlike the blade, the sheat can be repaired without trouble, so maybe he just repaired the sheat and as you say, uses the blade without the sheat (like a normal soul reaper would). I feel like the sword we see in the hell chapter is either his sealed blade or another form of his shikai and the blades merging into the scabbard is his true bankai form and the scabbard breaking revealing the true zangetsu is just another stage or part of his bankai I’m sure it’s probably related to whatever his bankai abilities are and if it’s true ichigo could learn a tsudo resurrection combined with quincy I feel like he’d merge with the blade and I feel like horn of salvation is like his base hollow form I don’t find it a coincidence he can use gran rey cero in horn of salvation like an espada I kinda wanna see a resurrection ichigo tbh
I hope that Kubo continue the storyline of the Hell chapter as it is left with unattached strings. It was a good follow up story actually. As it is act as the new beginning of the Bleach storyline like the Naruto-Boruto storyline there.
I always assumed his old Shikai is now the sealed form like how the others are sealed in the form of regular katanas and when he goes into his current Shikai it forms the dual blade.
I always thought that Ichigo carried around his shikai all the time, so naturally. Like it was always sealed. So I think what we think his Shikai is, is actually Zangetsu's sealed state, and the 2 swords are the actual shikai. And maybe his bankai is the old one, tybw one, or maybe a new one that's a combination of the two for the hell arc.
If that's true wonder if he can change the look of his Bankai as well like if he can make it look like his old one too or that big ass sword he got during the war. I mean technically Byakuya can change his Bankai's appearance too so maybe it's the case here too like his Old Bankai acts like his Speed mode and the new one if just him in regular speed but the attack is higher than speed mode.

At first when I saw old zangetsu came back for the final blow, I was very disappointed. I felt like all this journey was made for nothing. Like all the character development was erased in one second. But after the years, when I see this picture, it makes me happy. Because now I see it like this : The dual blades was the symbolic of his parent’s heritage. But his true power, what he forged on his own, who he was from the very start, was always there. And even when everything is destroyed, this last. Even when we wonder, what we are is not lost. That is a wonderful metaphor of our lives. We are a part of who made us, but not only. We are someone appart too. A authentically being. And for me, in bleach, the symbol of this deepest identity it’s this blade, old zangetsu. Forged by Ichigo’s will, his desire, his soul. A blade able to pierce fate, and write his own. I legit broke down when i saw the OG Zangetsu used for the final blow. It took me back in time all those years ago when he first awoke as a substitute shinigami.

He can Change between the forms of his true shikai. Its not a new "unreleased" form that goes into True Shikai, that is true shikai, he can just change between the forms. Not any weaker or stronger

Minor correction: there's no confirmation the smaller blade is the sheathe, there's a great case to be made about the bigger one being the scabbard. A much better one in fact. In fact, I've never seen anyone with any arguments for the smaller blade being the scabbard beyond the fact it instinctively make more sense for his shinigami powers to be the blade.

My theory is it’s Ichigo fullbring nature that allows him to stabilize those differents powers together and allow to turn a sheath into a whole weapon. Maybe even Ichigo subconsciously got inspiration from Ikkaku’s way to fight
It's pretty much similar to Ukitake and Kyōraku zanpakutos. Oone sword means Ichigo is at base, while dual being shikai.

The most interesting thing from the tybw arc is that you can have different powers based onnyour perspective. Changinf the name of your shikai or bankai could give you a different effect. We've seen this not only with ichigo and Tosen but many kther characters too. Renji for one has 2 bankai he can choose to use. Im.sure ichigo has more than one bankai as well.
It will be cool to see them explore this more.

To avoid spoilers… an altercation ensues leading to Urahara using his bankai to surgically line up Ichigo’s nappy ass ginger head and give him a low taper fade so he can finally bag that bad bit Orahime. Ikkaku uses both his sword and sheath in combat, and combines the two to unleash his shikai, Hozukimaru...And several other shinigami can choose whatever form to have their Zanpakuto in, like Urahara and Genryusai choosing to keep theirs as a walking cane by default, when they likely used to look like ordinary katana when they first got it.

For a while, I thought that he had lost/resealed (not intentionally) his Quincy powers and returned to his previous one sword Shikai after Yhwach had forcefully stripped him of his power during their fight.
I may be mis-remembering this as it's been years since I reread their fight, but I think at some point Yhwach steals Ichigo's "power" stripping him of blut.
I always just assumed that his Bankai broke seemingly so easily because the Quincy power was nearly completely drained at that point, so his normal Shikai was more durable as it was solely made from his Shinigami and hollow power.
I'm not saying that Ichigo doesn't have his Quincy power, just that he probably needs another moment similar to the Jail situation where his soul absorbed Quincy reishi to reawaken his dormant Quincy power.
But I like this explanation better, amd it kinda affirms my assumption that the Quincy power was weakened considering Ichigo just absorbed the remaining bits into his base sword.
Either way, it's pretty cool.
The Quincy element was a parasite presence that leeched/suppressed his true powers and turned Ichigo against his true sword. So yeah, it absolutely weakened him to the umpteenth degree.
I stand by the notion that it should've been expelled completely, robbing Yhwach of any control and influence he once had over Ichigo.
Thus Ichigo 'breaks free' of the Quincy's fate of being devoured by Yhwach upon death/auswählen.

My thought process was that after Yhwach had stolen Ichigo's power, he would need that kind of exposure to Quincy power once more to reawaken his dormant powers, similar to how it took absorbing bits of Quige's Jail to reawaken his power that presumably was sealed back when he was a child and Yhwach used Auswahlen (He lived because his soul is more complex with different powers co-existing).
But that was my understanding, I could be wrong tho.

The "True Zangestsu" that appeared after Yhwach destroyed the sheath is a call back to Ichigo's original zanpakotou that he got in the first episode/chapter (obviously) and it also subtly showcases how he had all this power from the very beginning of the series but he wasn't able to use them comfortably before because of OMZ's interference in his powers and his mental constraints. But as soon as he accepts himself and his powers as he/they are, his zanpakotou becomes a single large blade, showcasing the union of his powers and his immense reiatsu.
PS - I also love the fact that Ichigo can switch between his dual blades and "True Zangestsu" in the hell arc chapter. He can use his dual blades when he is fighting multiple enemies and can then switch back to the single blade when he is fighting a single strong enemy.

Zangetsu did have a sheath back in the beginning of the substitute soul reaper arc when it was just a big sword. It was in its sealed form. The giant butchers knife is his shikai. Black Katana is his bankai. True Zangetsu would also be in its shikai because Ichigo never reseals his zanpakto after Renji breaks it and he gets his own soul reaper powers

I believe that's a sealed sword of some kind. Through out the series Ichigo's power was always held back; this is him doing it by his own will. I image older Ichigo has more control over his power, plus it makes sense that a really powerful being is still allowed to live in the human world if he had some kind of suppression of his power.
His control over his power is insane at this point given the fact that Shunsui believed Ichigo might not be able to come to the Human World because how powerful he was becoming and being a Soul King candidate Ichibe would've made Ichigo take the Soul King's place as the linchpin if the plan failed, so it can be assumed that Ichigo had reishii comparble to the Soul King or enough reishii to keep the three worlds divided.

I thought it was a nice touch that the larger sword dispersed into red motes of reiatsu (the colour of his Hollow powers) while the smaller sword dissipated into blue motes (the colour of his Quincy reiatsu in the original anime) before both turn Ichigo’s yellow as he accepts them as part of himself.

(this brought about a realization/theory, so its a kinda long one before you start reading)
And lets not forget that Ichigo's single blade zangetsu uses its hand wrap/ cloth trailing it as a wrap/sheathe for the sword itself when Ichigo is not using it and has it on his back.
In fact, Itd be better, IMO, to kind of assume now given all of the series that the sword and the handle wrap were both the representations of all of ichigo's power all this time as well, and that the wrap simply became its own sword proper and made this more apparent is all.
This is great because its a good visual representation of Old Man Zangetsu/ Ichigo's quincy powers "sheathing" the actual sword/White/Ichigo's actual hollow/shinigami powers but letting out the blade to use still. Its all filtered through OMZ controlling and limiting his powers.
Add to this that both versions of ichigo's bankai prior to TYBW also had the white wrap turn into a chain attached to Tensa Zangetsu, and even wrapping up his arm when he came out of the Dangai to face Aizen.
Essentially, this whole thing as always been the case, Ichigo's blade proper represented his shinigami powers but the handle wrap has always been the representation of the quincy powers, becoming a chain for the compressed sword in bankai. Now ichigo uses it the same way in the hell arc, but can turn the wrap into a proper weapon for his Quincy powers.
This might mean that while it can actually cut still, the TYBW bankai we saw broken immediately is actually *still sheathed the whole time* technically, and that Ichigo might unleash even more power, sort of like his final hit against Yhwach when it broke away, it just didnt get a good showcase cue to story events.

I like to think if the Hell Arc happens, this will be treated as Ichigo having two shikais or rather, the big kitchen knife is his sealed form while the two blades are his shikai. Basically Ichigo is so powerful that his sealed zanpakuto is a shikai. Also would be cool to hear Ichigo call out zangetsu when he summons the two blades.
I think at this point since ichigo is a fusion of all the supernatural races, human, shinigami, quincy, and hollow it's essentially "rules stopped applying"

Saying that unlike the blade, the sheat can be repaired without trouble, so maybe he just repaired the sheat and as you say, uses the blade without the sheat (like a normal soul reaper would). Because even if his sheat is a blade, it still works as the sheat only

I feel like the sword we see in the hell chapter is either his sealed blade or another form of his shikai and the blades merging into the scabbard is his true bankai form and the scabbard breaking revealing the true zangetsu is just another stage or part of his bankai I’m sure it’s probably related to whatever his bankai abilities are and if it’s true ichigo could learn a tsudo resurrection combined with quincy I feel like he’d merge with the blade and I feel like horn of salvation is like his base hollow form I don’t find it a coincidence he can use gran rey cero in horn of salvation like an espada I kinda wanna see a resurrection ichigo tbh

I hope that Kubo continue the storyline of the Hell chapter as it is left with unattached strings. It was a good follow up story actually. As it is act as the new beginning of the Bleach storyline like the Naruto-Boruto storyline there.

I always assumed his old Shikai is now the sealed form like how the others are sealed in the form of regular katanas and when he goes into his current Shikai it forms the dual blade.

I always thought that Ichigo carried around his shikai all the time, so naturally. Like it was always sealed. So I think what we think his Shikai is, is actually Zangetsu's sealed state, and the 2 swords are the actual shikai. And maybe his bankai is the old one, tybw one, or maybe a new one that's a combination of the two for the hell arc.
