Ty Lee and Mai betraying Azula is one of my favorite moments in the entire series
The fight sequences in this ep alone are gonna be epic in NETFLIX retelling of this series! Imma be fangasming watching this episode i live action.

"NO YOU MISCALCULATED!! YOU SHOULD'VE FEARED ME MORE!!!" That's the first time I actually saw Azula lose her shit. She was never overcome with such emotion before.

@@LettsReact, to the point of murder. If you pay attention to her stance, and finger placement on her hand, she was in lightning mode. She was ready to electrocute Mia at point blank range.

“I love Zuko more than I fear you.” Such a great line and especially heartbreaking when you realize that’s what Azula thinks her mother always thought of her.
Yea kinda sad
FR
Also true for her mother. I mean she legitimately went "What's wrong with that child?"
GodBear Ursa wasn’t a good mom to Azula. There. I said it. She tried but she wasn’t good
Oh snap.
Fun fact: Mai was never officially trained in knife throwing. She just picked it up because she was bored, so she would just do it for fun in her room.
Also notice that Azula was getting ready to go straight to lightning bending towards Mai.
*Mai
You mean Mai “-“
And because her throws are so violent, the writers made the call to only have her hit the clothes of her enemies so it would be a little bit less scary. Just to show how Bad Ass she is.
@@m.s.5370 apologies I just woke up and spelling was not the first thing on my mind 😂 and I couldn’t remember spelling
I'm really impressed how firm of a grasp Montana has on character dynamics, human psychology and just character writing in general. I mean her predictions are just dead-on, which in turn is proof just how well this show is written, how well the characters are portrayed and how consistently human their growth actually is.
it needs to be said that she (just like all reactors) is in a bit of a different position to someone watching alone.
@@nixian_zwaylus that and the fact that they didn’t watch it as a kid, so catching the small/important things is also much easier
She definitely has strong emotional intelligence.
Montana is awesome. That's basically it xD
@@スノーハッピー It's the fact that she gets asked many guiding questions and is given time to think when the video pauses every 10 seconds, while the predictions are nice, it is not how someone would naturally watch the show.
Mai didn't just save Zuko in that moment, but also her uncle. I think they have a rather strong relationship. I mean, he had Zuko and instead of telling the fire lord, he told his niece, because he knew it was important to her to be able to talk to him about why he left. The warden basicly commited treason just to help Mai with her boyfriend problems. Of course she didn't mention this to Azula in their confrontation, because then Azula would know how much she cares for the warden and could use him to punish Mai. At least thats my theory.
I never thought of Mai saving her uncle in addition to Zuko, it makes sense just like you said she was the first one he contacted when he discovered zuko in the prison.
I admit, I missed that too - never thought about her saving Zuko AND her uncle.
This is such a good theory too because mai's introduction had to do with Azula putting Mai's younger brother at risk, and her having to play along. It's such a great take
It would have been great if this moment could be contrasted with the scene in "return to Omashu" where she is willing to give up her baby brother. The problem is in that scene it did not look hard for her to do so at all and Azula did not have to push it, which is a huge missed opportunity.
@@f_f_f_8142 yeah, it's clear that it wasn't intentional or meant to be that way, but as far as my headcanon is concerned, that was her motivation.
The irony of Azula saying she’s a people person when she couldn’t understand or read the people closest to her.
She was being sarcastic
The real irony is when they all dress up as the Kyoshi Warriors and sit in front of the Earth King and she says, “It’s terrible when you can’t trust the people who are closest to you.” And Mai and Ty Lee are right next to her.
I feel like that Azula trusts Mai and Ty lee a lot compared to others. She went crazy because of that(a part of that) Trusting ppl you live and they betray you.
leib. That's interesting.
Azula understands power and conflict. She does not understand caring about other people. That's a weakness in Azula.
When Ty Lee chooses to betray Azula to stop her from hurting Mai, this is something Azula might never be able to see coming. She is a narcissistic who cares about power and little else. Perhaps she could never understand that Mai and Ty Lee might have motivations that are more powerful than their fear of Azula.
God, I love these characters.
She didn’t read him she knew zuko was there so he was with team avatar so it would be zuko and someone with Team avatar had to do it
The reason why Mai’s line hit so hard with Azula is because that is what her mother was like. Her mom loved Zuko more than she feared her.
Mai's face when she realized Ty Lee loves HER more than she fears Azula too is heartwarming
Literally everyone is hype for Southern Raiders except Yon Rha

@@jjonahwick1705 Montana doesn't read these comments, Kenny does
@@FunWithMemesFunWithMemes That's good to know. I wonder if she'll read through some of them, when she finishes the series.
I feel Mai always had it in her to betray Azula (like when she let the GAang steal back Bosco, the Earth Kings bear), she just never saw a better option, or a reason to motivate her to do so. It wasn't until she had that talk with Zuko and seeing he truly believed in his cause, that she realized there was now a reason to betray Azula. Ty Lee always feared Azula but seemed to actually have a friendship Mai, so when Mai betrayed Azula, Ty Lee figured she had to go with her actual friend.
comicenthusiast And she refused to go into the sludge juice in 2x13. Their loyalty wasn’t total because Mai joined with Azula because it was better than living in Omashu and Azula coerced Ty Lee to join her instead of staying in the circus.
Yeah. I think that's also part of why Mai's betrayal cut azula so deep; while Ty Lee and Azula had that "mean girl and groupie" dynamic going on, Azula probably considered Mai as close as an equal as she could fathom _because_ Mai was cool with challenging her if she needed to.
Remember in this beach episode when Maj screamed at Azula to leave her alone? I’ve wondered why Azula never did or at least said something to Mai about raising her voice at her knowing how Azula is.
Also when Azula first came to recruit her she said: "Please tell me you came here to kill me".
I found that scene really interesting when I watched it for the first time, Mai didnt seem to like Azula at all since the beginning
Mai was really a character that thinks for herself a lot. In multiple occurrences, she showed that she did not care so much about how Azula would react. In the Drill episode, when Mai and Ty Lee were told to chase Katara and Sokka in the sludge, Mai responded "Azula can bend all the lightning she wants at me, I'm not going into that wall slidge juice". Another time was in S2 finale, Mai refused to even defend against Toph and Sokka, simply saying "Just take the bear." I think these really foreshadowed this moment. Ty Lee on the other hand leaned more to Mai than Azula, one was a genuine friend and the other was out of fear. Seeing Mai step up against Azula can easily push Ty Lee to step up too.
Also, Southern Raiders, one of the best episodes and one of my favourites. Please cry :D
Ty Lee didn't really step up though, she just saved Mai.
Azula: im a people person
Also azula: Thats a sharp outfit...
That wasn't her fault. Anyone that didn't like that was an imposter.
To be fair, it was a sharp outfit.
i know you ment this as a meme, but i think that really opened how robbed of her being a “normal kid” and forced to be this perfect prodigy of a war weapon. she can read war prisoners like a book and is an amazing strategist, but interacting with other teenagers? she can’t do that. she’s 14, and all she’s knows is war.
I always liked how ATLA shows people who are incarcerated are still human, like the people Aang meets in Avatar Day while in jail, and they give him romantic advise. It's a little touch that helps the world feel more alive
Plus, it challenges the stereotype of all prisoners are bad.
And that's pretty funny.
Honestly, the show does its best to show that a majority of the people in the fire nation are human beings with multiple facets. They're just products of a war mongering totalitarian state that twists and warps the truth to keep the people on the side of the war. There are tons of moments when fire nation soldiers are just talking casually, and you can see that there is far more to them than "fire nation evil," and that most certainly extends to those that the fire nation judges to be dissidents.
*rolling my eyes*
"Sorry warden, you're my prisoner now."
Suki is the best.
Suki has some kinks to her
We’re all in for Mistress Suki.
*P hub theme plays
Yes ma'am
She is under rated
A cool detail is that Mai's betrayal and lack of fear for Azula was forshadowed in season 2 episode 'The Drill'. Mai wouldn't jump into the sludge to chase Katara and Sokka and said: 'She (Azula) can shoot all the lightning she wants at me, I'm not jumping in that pipe.'
I love how Mai's betrayal/rescue was so unexpected but fits so well that it makes perfect sense. The writers were phenomenal with their subtle character building throughout the series 👏
Lining up the guards: "There is an imposter among us"
LMAO
[Guard] was not the Imposter. 1 Imposter remains
Cyan being pretty sus.
"I guess you just don't know people as well as you think you do. You miscalculated. I love Zuko more than I fear you."
Those three sentences were the EXACT sentences that would hurt Azula the most because it brings out every single one of her insecurities. Her lack of social skills, her not being the perfect girl she tried so hard to be, the fact that her mother loved Zuko more than her, and the fact that someone doesn't fear her. Whether Mai meant it or not, she absolutely destroyed Azula that moment. And the cherry on top, she didn't calculate that Ty Lee would love Mai over her too.
It fits so well.
I heard someone say once, for people who are neutral in situations, there'll come a time when they have to choose a side, they will always choose the side that the respect and trust over the side that they fear,. Tylee was neutral up until that moment, but chose Mai since she trusted her more than Azula.
choosing a side? it is impossible to be neutral forever? Is Switzerland just a joke to you? :D
I don't agree that Ty Lee was neutral, she was def on Azulas side till she threatened her friend
@@AnimeAngel115 I think it's more nuanced than that.
@@fusssel7178 i guess Switzerland is the only exception lol
The look on Ty Lee’s face during the tense confrontation between Mai and Azula was that of a child when parents argue.
Psychologically a long, long fuse has been lit in Azula’s mind.
It still amazes me how the writers can apply comic relief in unlikely scenes. team Sokka’s attempt to start a riot and how it’s really done cracks me up😂
ty lee's face basically mirrored the audience
If she is on team Suki, then she is going to love that part, if you know what I mean
She'll get a bit conflicted later, on the gondola fight.

Prison Guard was not the imposter...
1 imposter remains
I love that zuko’s bending changes as he spends time with team avatar and after he meets the dragons, you can see it on the gondola when he’s fighting Azula. He doesn’t avoid the fire blasts, he just takes it head on like we see Toph teaching Aang when he’s first learning earth bending so he’s clearly picking up stuff from the whole gang and still learning from Iroh when he was teaching about redirecting lighting and how the most powerful benders look to all elements for inspiration.
I mean blocking fire attacks is pretty common for firebenders...we saw them do it as early as episode 3 in the agni kai.
The difference is that Zuko got powerful enough to not just get instantly wrecked if he tries that, firebenders in general block fireblasts if they can.
The moment that Ty Lee shuts down Azula to save Mai is one of my favorite moments in the entire series.
Ty Lee is a charming secondary character... but this episode shows you vividly EXACTLY what her priorities are, how much she cares about Mai, how important it is to her to stop Azula from hurting Mai, and how much she is willing to risk to do what she thinks is the right thing to do. This moment has been quietly set up from Ty Lee’s first appearance… and is a spectacular example of revealing essential traits of a character… through their actions. You could say something very similar about Mai. It’s sooo satisfying to see how the relationships among Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee somehow managed to get to this bizarre place. Phenomenal writing. Absolutely phenomenal. Mai and Ty Lee have better arcs than the protagonists on most other shows.
Another thought. This is one of my favorite episodes... and it doesn't have much of Katara, Aang, and Iroh in it... and they are my favorite characters!! (Followed by Zuko, Toph, Sokka, and Azula, FYI. Basically, I love all the characters. So, sue me.)
A point to consider: compare and contrast Hakoda with Ozai.
They are 100% polar opposites, emotionally. Hakoda is caring, nurturing, and is very open with his affection for his children, despite being forced to leave for several years. His children never, for one moment, doubted his love for them. He respects them and helps them grow to reach their potential, and he's very calm and considerate when it comes to their foibles, flubs, and fudge-ups, realizing why they (ie, Katara) are lashing out, and he takes it in stride, knowing they're in pain and helping them deal with it.
Ozai, on the other hand, is a cold, calculating, manipulative, sociopathic, narcissistic user and abuser. He plays his children against each other, caring nothing for their feelings or well-being, except insofar as they can be used for his own gain. He punishes them for even perceived slights, no matter what the reasons behind them are. He crushes weakness, empathy, and disobedience, and has no qualms about immediately maiming and discarding them if they displease him in any way.
Azula is exactly the kind of child I'd expect out of THAT particular fustercluck, and she doesn't disappoint. Honestly, it took an absolute miracle (read: Iroh) to keep Zuko even as even-keeled and well-balanced as he is.
I love this analysis, and even more how you censored it. 😅
I honestly think that Zuko and Sokka work together naturally so much better than any other duo. They compliment one another so well.
Azula must be so confused and betrayed at this point because it’s like her whole mindset and way of doing things has been revealed to be totally weak. Mai chose Azula’s brother over her, even after he locked her in a cell.
Small detail: if you look at Azula's stance right before Ty Lee stepped in, she was going to lightning bend at Mai. Azula was out for blood
Exactly
It’s kinda obvious.
There nothing else she would be standing like that for.
If she was fire bending, she’d have a fist to punch and she would have been able to do it faster than tai lee could react
@@Chemeleon15 Azula firebends almost the same way she lightning bends…she doesn’t use her fists to firebend
Mai is not questioning it. She is very sure about what she wants to do here. The only times Mai ever defied Azula was over inconsequential things that weren’t really that important, and when Azula wasn’t physically present. Mai seems to intuitively know how to hit Azula where it hurts. She decides that if this is how she’s going to go out, she’s going to drag Azula for it, too. When she cares about something or someone, she doesn’t back down, she doesn’t bow down, she stands up and fights. She makes her own path instead of following down the path Azula pushes her down. Azula’s control over them is less total than she thinks it is. Azula thought Mai was too afraid to care about things, and Azula couldn’t have been more wrong. Azula rules with fear, but it leaves her with no one, her “friends” have betrayed her.
Same with Ty Lee. Azula was taught to rule with fear, including in her friendships. We’ve seen her reaching for true emotional connections but pulling back each time. You can’t sustain fear in people. It requires continual escalation. Eventually they find something worth breaking free for. I don’t hate Azula; I pity her, but someone in this position becomes incredibly dangerous. Alone, shaken, bereft of support yet still in a position to do great harm.
@@fighteer1 It took me several rewatches and watching Hello Future Me’s video on The Psychology of Azula to really feel for her.
Suki going after the Warden is one of my favorite scenes in the entire franchise. Running on people's shoulders and heads, climbing walls like a spider, taking out like five guards along the way before immediately capturing the Warden without even a fight. So freaking cool.
4:32 the crack zoom on zuko going "i'm here!" made me laugh more than it should have
For some reason that shot is just hilarious to me SO GLAD IM NOT ALONE HE JUST COMES OUT OF NOWHERE
That line of azula "I'm a people's person" actually means she knows one of the gaang should be the one to dress up as a guard. Remember the scene on the end of The Black Sun episode, where she taunted Sokka. Its all part of her plan especially at the end of that episode, the fire nation soldier ask her if they needed to chase the gaang, she just said "No, they'll be back". She just informed Sokka of Suki to make him have the urge to save Suki, thus the situation now why she came to the Boiling Rock.
Anyone else notice how Suki moves with the absolute grace and lightness of an Airbender without being one?
Awe I thought it was the actual video and got excited and clicked
Same but I forgot they upload videos every Sunday and Thursday 😔 🤚
Me too :(
Sameeeee
i knew it wasn't but still got excited.
Same here
The thing with Mai that makes this episode so impactful is in The Beach they point out she doesn't express herself but then what she did at The Boiling Rock out of love for Zuko, knowing Azula was right there and she would be facing serious consequences, was the ultimate form of self-expression and in the end when Azula was going to zap her with lightning she was willing to fight for it too.
can we talk about how azula was 100% going to kill mai with lightning and thats what triggered ty lee! Also I love the editing and additional jokes and how you guys are transitioning into a fully fleshed out youtube channel and I hope the content continues and does not disrupt y'alls education. Also I hope you get lots of patron support and I think you may attract more support as many of your fans like you may not have a lot of extra finances maybe creating perks for $1 and 5 dollar donations... Love the series
Damn! You know what? I always wondered what made Ty Lee turn. I was like, okay, Mai loved Zuko so much that even after what happened between them in the events of Boiling Rock, she still had a stronger attachment to Zuko than to Azula. Makes sense. But I was always like "but why Ty Lee though?"
Then people pointed out how while Azula was not truly real friends with either of them, Mai and Ty Lee were more true friends for and to each other. So when Azula turned against one of them, the two actual friends stuck by each other's sides. That's why Ty Lee's betrayal came right after Mai's. Also, factoring in what you pointed out about how Ty Lee must have noticed Azula going into the bending stance that prepares for a lightning strike, she saw that Azula was going to straight up kill Mai right then and there for the betrayal, so she chi-blocked Azula to stop it.
- - -
Thank you for helping me to make this connection and have a nice day!
I've always felt a bit bad for Mai in this episode. I think all she really wanted was for Zuko to say that he still cares about her, which she didn't get to hear since he was so focused on the mission.
Also, imagine what would've happened if Ty lee didn't intervene... She literally saved Mai. She chose the friend who respected her over the abusive one. Their betrayal is one of _the_ best moments of the entire show. Can't wait for the next episode! :)
Azula face change at first emotionally hurt that her friend betrayed her “but what I don’t understand is why” but then just mad that her calculating and analysis skills were insulted “you don’t know people like you think you do. You miscalculated”
Am I the only one that thinks Mai would’ve died on the spot if Ty Lee didn’t step in
Azula was about to use lightning so yeah
She could have used the knives tho
I think Azula using lightning instead of fire shows how much she respects/fears Mai as an opponent. She needed to take her down in one shot. In terms of lethality, Mai can throw to kill every time but chooses not to. Azula can't lightning bend as quickly as Ozai, so I think Mai could have taken her.
@@andersolsen4404 I doubt it would've got Azula on time, and lighting is far more lethal than the knives.
@@cantspellrestaraunt Read the comics, Azula got to a point where she could use lighting by twiddling her fingers.
Mai always had the least fear of azula. In the beach episode, she even screamed at azula: "you want me to express myself, leave me alone!" And in the drill episode, she willingly disobeyed following team avatar into the sludge.
The fact that you two had to take a moment to freak out over the Suki/Zuko duo was absolutely adorable
The mini stroke that Kenny has during every 4th wall break gives me life. I've had that same experience so many times watching this show with others.
Warden: We have one of the people responsible for the escape plan 😤

Daaaang listing to Azula's gasps when Ty lee stopped her hit me hard this time around. The voice actress conveyed the devastation perfectly.
Yes Grey DeLisle is amazing
That gasp always makes the betrayal so heartbreaking
Came here for Kenny's fabulous nails and the beautiful cat, staying for Montana's absolutely perfect insight and predictions.
This two parter is solid gold. Suki returning. Sokka and Zuko being in the spotlight. Mai standing up to Azula and Ty Lee siding with Mai. The action scenes were top notch. This is my favorite arc (not counting the masterpiece finale).
As a side note, I feel so stupid for failing to realize (at least, on my first viewing or two) that the guy that Chit Sang pointed out was the bully who set him up and got him thrown in the cooler in Part 1. Courtesy of the guards having identical uniforms (and facial hair styles, for the most part), I initially thought that he was just some random douche that Chit Sang decided to screw over, but then I realized that he specifically picked that guy as revenge for his actions in the first half of the two parter.
Kudos to the two of you for getting that right away. This is one of the best Avatar reaction series I've seen.
I cant wait until she sees a certain battle between zuko and azula. Shes gonna have her mind blown!!!
Montana picked up on one of the few weird things about this episode, which is that the warden never really tries to figure out WHY he just caught the traitor prince of the fire nation sneaking into his prison. Even after he knows there's been an escape attempt and he knows the prisoners must have had outside help, he never even comes close to putting 2 and 2 together. It's still one of the best ATLA episodes, but it did take some contrivances to get the story to work properly.
WE stan the WOMAN of Alta ! I mean ALL of them are powerful boss woman!
Even though the warden was never really seen as intimidating as other villains what does do is keep his word. Man told them to cut the line with him on it, man was ready to get boiling oil treatment
Something I don't see a lot of people mention is that Zuko did a lot of earthbending stances in his fight against Azula/Ty Lee, he really took that lesson from Iroh to heart.
So I guess Chit Sang didn't care about his girlfriend and best buddy enough to bring them with him on his second escape attempt.
When it comes to crime, the less the merrier.
Sokka: "The best meat of all..."
Me: "Oh buddy, nooooo..."
"No one else knows Suki"
First off, Aang and Katara lol. Second, Toph met Suki on the way to ba sing se. Remember Suki saved toph from drowning and then toph kissed her thinking she was Sokka.
8:25 😂 😂 😂 at the same exact time with the same cadence I repeated “the secondary warden???”
What I don’t understand is how Ty Lee and Mai couldn’t just take out the soldiers after they took down Azula. I saw Ty Lee waste dozens of the Earth Kingdom’s earthbenders with a smile on her face. That’s the only thing I couldn’t get over about this episode.
I cannot wait to see Montana's reaction to the episode of Zuko and Katara together after this, so many good moments I'm excited for her to see!
Montana loves the dynamics, and Zuko-Katara is a very interesting one because of its unlikeliness
I think she’s going to love it honestly.

I LOVE how Shook she got when she saw Mai😂 Mai and Tylee are queens❤️👑
I love that Sokka's dad gets told that the crown prince of the Fire nation is there and naturally assumes it's a problem, but Sokka just has to say once that Zuko is on their side, and his dad believes it - That's how much Hakoda trusts Sokka's judgement
I love that Ty Li looked almost as surprised as Azula.
Your zuko scream impression was spot on!
Thanks! I like to think so haha
The fact that Azula fears Sokka in that moment is bc she knows that one should never underestimate nonbenders. Her best friends were two of the best taking down more people in seconds than benders. She knew it. That’s why she shows respect and a bit of fear.
Ty Lee's betrayal had me so SHOOK the first time, I probably woke my neighbors.
I think the line "I love Zuko more than I fear you" really angered and triggered Azula because that's basically what happened with her and her mom. Her mom loved Zuko more than she did fear Azula.

Not bi at all, cringe
Suki Dom Moment lol
Your cat looks like he has a little beard patch under his chin
*her name is cheyanne and we LOVE her soul patch!
Imagine if they took Katara with them. Everything would have been so much easier!
THE AIR IS SO MOIST
I’m really glad I found this channel. Super dope
Glad you enjoy it!
Everytime i see ty lee betray azula, it always make me goosebump. I don't know it because her action, mai face, azula face, or the background music
Listen I know we talk about Zuko’s hotness a lot but Suki is something else man, that scene where she gets to the warden and punches him. A QUEEN!!!
I always thought that Mai actually never really feared azula... in season 2 episode 3 she joins azula because she was bored in Omashu... “count me in, anything to get me out of this place.”
And during the drill episode, ty lee followed sokka and katara in the slurry pipeline but mai said “she can shoot all the lightning bolts she wants at me, I’m not going in that wall sludge juice.”
So there was technically never a scene we were showed that proved mai really did fear azula. So in this episode it makes sense that her love for zuko is greater that her fear of azula.
Dunno... just my thoughts
I think it may be less a fear for herself and rather the fear of what Azula could potentially do to those she cares for, like we see in the "Return to Omashu" episode in regards her family. And even still, Mai isn't suicidal, so her little acts of rebellion are typically ones that aren't necessarily so major as to cause Azula to go into massive retribution mode toward her own person. It's always a neat balancing act on how far she dares push, while still staying in Azula's good graces. But this care she has for other people, which you can see here for Zuko, or for Tom-Tom in the comics, are big enough motivations for her to do whatever it takes to safe guard them, even at the expense of her own health. So I'd say her referencing of "fear" is more nuanced than just the "I'm scared you'll kill me" type.
The number of times that Montana said the word phenomenal in this video is just phenomenal
The thing is, I feel so bad for Azula. But she bullied Ty Lee and Mai into doing her bidding. She literally could have killed Ty Lee at one point, so they don’t owe her anything. Azulea needs help but...
It doesn’t have to be one or the other though. You can still feel bad for Azula and want her to get help while acknowledging the fact that she did terrible things that aren’t excusable.
I love that in the very beginning Montana wasn’t super impressed with earth benders and now toph and suki are her favorites💕
I swear to god, Montana is a genius. I never would have guessed everything she did throughout my first time watching the series. Then again i was like 8 or something lol
She is actually so incredibly smart! blows my mind all the time
Montana being awestruck and completely in love with Suki is literally me. I'm so glad someone else actually loves her as much as I do!
Honestly Zuko and any person who has an ex willing to do what Mai did even after a break up for them can count themselves blessed.
17:29 lets just appreciate the cats face
"I don't know how you mentally come back from your only two friends betraying you within minutes". That's the neat part, you don't.
I think this was my favorite reaction video so far!
thanks so much!
Kenny, his lisp, and his kitty are just too adorable. 🤗
Anyway... this is one of my favorite episodes because of Mai and Ty Lee's betrayal of Azula. Mai's line, "I love Zuko more than I fear you," is just perfect.
Also, calling back to the last episode, I don't know if anyone has ever picked on this, but... the first firebending we see Chit Sang doing is very much waterbending style! Chit Sang redirected the guard's attack in the exact same way a waterbender does. And then there's the fact that he is perfectly fine being part of the Gaang, no questions asked.
My personal head canon is that Chit Sang was a well-traveled man, having spent considerable time in different places all over the world, absorbing different cultures and realizing, just like Zuko did, that the Fire Nation's propaganda was a lie. Perhaps he started putting his knowledge and worldly wisdom to use against them, either in homeland uprisings or helping to liberate colonies... eventually landing him here, in the Fire Nation's most secure prison, as the prison yard's defacto, unquestioned leader.
9:00 I love this scene. It shows why torture doesn't work at all.
One thing I’ve noticed in the show is that Ty Lee can easily take down benders, but non benders fare better against her. Non benders are better at close contact fighting because benders rely so much on their bending. Ty lee can just drop in on a bender and a couple of quick jabs, they’re down. But non benders like Sokka or suki, it takes a little longer for her to down them.
