Worked for Virgin Atlantic for many years. Used to burst with pride when this ad came on TV or the cinema. Was beaten to the post as the official best U.K. advert by a bunch of meerkats. Fun fact: at the end with the 2 guys who “need to change their ticket”, they appear twice at the end. The first time, the producers got an underwear model to walk through the shoot and they filmed the 2 guys faces for a “genuine reaction” which you can clearly see on their faces 😂.
Serious question: Would you still bust with pride, when you see their latest ad "See the world differently" with the punks, queers and transgender ballet?
Look at this advert compared to the let’s tick every box possible advert we got today! This advert makes you wanna fly virgin Atlantic because there cool. The new one makes you wanna avoid them at all cost
Very many years ago I was in hospital with appendicitis and my father arrived straight from Heathrow having flown back with BEA from Norway. He was air-crew. He strode into the ward - dark blue uniform, gold braid, cap under his arm, all blue eyes and milk chocolate (as the RAF used to say) - every single nurse took one look, their jaws dropped, and they lew like bees round a honeypot. I couldn't believe it, "That's my daddy. What are you doing?" His photo can be seen on RAF 62 Squadron Sgt Clifton. Ha ha. Bless him.
This should motivate you to get out of bed and make yourself presentable everyday for the world to see.. thank you for the inspiration this is the best ad to ever be on a tele
One of the nice touches about this iconic ad in the U.K. Was the use of Frankie Goes to Hollywood 's song "Relax" which was banned by the BBC for being too - well you know. So it was anti establishment in every regard - taking down BA without mentioning them etc. Still IMO one of the best adverts ever made ✈️
I really can’t help but find it funny imagining folk who hate the idea of people just going about their lives, going places. Wonder if they throw angry tantrums every time they’re in a public place and see someone who doesn’t look like them 🤭
In my top 3 adverts of all time 1) Coca Cola you can’t beat the real thing from the 80s 2) virgin media Chaka khan - I feel for you ! and this one would be number 3 ! there just great 😊
The ad is based on the movie Catch Me If You Can, when Frank Abagnale hides in plain sight by getting everyone to look at the hot cabin crew instead of him
Few glitches. Virgin originally operated from Gatwick - this appears to be Heathrow. Looks like the old Terminal 2 shortly after it closed. The signage is the late BAA era signage inside the building rather than Rail Alphabet. The bus outside is a green Leyland National which looks spot on.
Watching that dreadful new ‘woke’ advert instantly made me think of this masterpiece. Loved this back in the day and it still looks and sounds amazing now!
One of the greatest adverts ever! Pure genius level 💯
The best Virgin Atlantic advert.
One of the best adverts ever on british tv!
anyone else get chills watching this.
Actually I did get chills. This is one nice ad.
Me too. I so remember this era.
mahammed666 Yep 👍🏻 I did
Yes, it's so bloody clever!
No.

Same here! Literally loved walking through JFK in the Viv and having people just stop and look 🤣😭
Should have bought bmi who I worked for years ago, perhaps we wouldn't have gone bust?

@@ironheadfm THIS!
Have a look at their that just came out a few days ago.....DISGUSTING imo!
The best advert ever made... !
Perfect song for this brilliant advert!
One of the best pieces of advertising I've ever seen, absolutely epic
My favourite ad by (air) miles.
I wish being British was actually like this lol. What an overwhelmingly sexy advert that never gets old. Brilliant.
Still the best! Can't believe 25 years ago!
15 years 🙄
No it wasn't made 25 years ago, it was the advert talking about 25 years Virgin Atlantic in 1984, this ad was made in 2009
Fast forward 2022. Shocking
VERY good use of music - one of my all time favs.
Look at this advert compared to the let’s tick every box possible advert we got today! This advert makes you wanna fly virgin Atlantic because there cool. The new one makes you wanna avoid them at all cost
Guy outside the record store holding one of the best albums ever, Big Country's Steeltown
It’s a bit of a anachronism really as that album was released 29th October 1984 whilst the advert is set during June 1984! Oops XD
@@mrburgess1698 perhaps they just wanted to acknowledge that it as was the best album released in 1984!
@@Round_07 yeah I bet you’re right, and I bet hardly anyone would know the anachronism anyway.
Far better than the crap advert they’re currently peddling.
Love everything about this advert
I absolutely loved this advert when it first came on TV. I used to fly with Virgin every year.
This advert would never fly today!
Awesome commercial
Ahhh the advert that started it all for me. I wanted to be that pilot! Now look! 😆
This was on TV in 2009. Even being an ironic reflection of the 80’s, can you imagine it getting anywhere near broadcast now?
I honestly don’t see why it couldn’t be broadcast today
@@bluefox9er I’d love it to be there. But irony, parody, and double meaning is dead.
Best thing about the ad is the wink at the end
That and the stunning blond looking up to officers
My sis works for BA and when this ad came out she said her colleagues knew they were beat..

@@Insperato62 Awesome story
Best advert ever. Definitely top 5! Well done 👍
What a difference … can we go back to good old days please
Best thing about this advert is that there is hardly any talking.
Fan bloody tastic♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Wish this version of Relax was available somewhere, what a tune and what an ad!
th-cam.com/video/BwM6jalU_5g/w-d-xo.html
The best ad even,,,
WAW makes you proud to be British LOVE IT !!!
This should motivate you to get out of bed and make yourself presentable everyday for the world to see.. thank you for the inspiration this is the best ad to ever be on a tele
Still one of the best Ads ever, still Fab in 2023
This was when Virgin Atlantic had style.....now its just incorporated with other airlines.....
Nice to see Steeltown from Big Country getting a plug 🔌👍
Glad it’s not just me who thinks this advert was amazing
Sadly, Virgin are obviously now ashamed of it.
Now that is a good advert.

Pissing BA off since ‘84 ;)
Absolutely right. Well said 👍
Brilliant…no other word!
That's one lucky pilot! Great advert
It genuinely feels like an advert made in the 80s (I know it's from 2009)
One of the all-time great adverts. Pitched just right. I honestly don't know how anyone could find it sexist when it is so obviously a send-up.
The same people who doesn’t find sexist firemen calendars. Double standards.
A shadow of its former self
One of the greatest adverts ever. Compare to the one today. Go woke - go broke.
LOL, the song used in this advert is literally a gay anthem
Literally got a guy wearing glittery makeup as an air host with the song 'I am what I am' compared to this 😂😂😂
A superb dropping dropping ad...
Love it,the advert's ace as well.
I like at 1:07 when the Captain gets some attention.. 😎😂💋
Very eighties, when people were better dressed, had more ambition and more go in them. OTOH you had the miner's strike.
Amazing...
I'm from the future. It doesn't get any better, trust me.
This would never make it to air now. 😂
Proper hostesses without being orange or caked on make up. It's got a Pan am vibe. Classy
Tasty airline pilot!!!
It’s like Their crew is in the year of filming this commercial and the rest is at 1984
An Alder Valley Leyland National NPJ472R can be seen in this Video 0:05
A million times better than the woke one they have now
I won't fly with them after seeing that woke tv commercial.
So sad for you that you couldn't just enjoy the vid without having a winge and make it political.
@@spooky-30000 🤣

Their latest commercial has the men in the red high heels. Oh how far they've fallen.
Everything woke turns to garbage
Agreed. The whole country has gone to shit. Mind you, the USA is even worse at the moment.
Loved it ❤❤❤❤❤
Oh cry me a bloody river 🙄 boo hoo sorry that your sorry excuse for a brain can’t comprehend that men can wear whatever they want
get a grip dante
Don't make ads like this anymore :/ Wait this was only 3 years ago. Still a lots happend between 2009 and 2012
Steel town was actually released 4 months after the date of this advert
If this aired today they would probably get sued with many different claims. Good advert though I remember it even after all these years
Even the pilot gets some
Best airline commercials - BA in 80's and 90's
The ad is based on the movie Catch Me If You Can, when Frank Abagnale hides in plain sight by getting everyone to look at the hot cabin crew instead of him
Great Flickr show
How best to promote an airline? T & Asses 😁
It's a send up of adverts like that.
@@ColinH1973 That's what they all say.
Tune.
And so much better without any vocal.
I want this advert back. The new one … go woke… go broke
How times have changed - now it's the boys wearing the skirts
My dad work for virgin 27 years still going I’ve work for nearly year
Virgin Airlines the best ever❤❤❤
watched this at high-school 😂
Is that Mark Benton in Wimpy (0:49)?
shame, in 2020 VS no longer has the 747 and they don't fly to and from gatwick
No mixed race family’s and not many black people on a tv advert. How times have changed 😂
I just loved this ad much better than the weird pc woke ad their promoting now.
Heaven
Back when you didn't have to tick the agenda boxes....
I never saw beauties like that on my flights with Virgin.
Also, mobile phones didn’t exist in UK in 1984.
Media A Level anyone?
1st OZ Says "I Need To Change my Airline" 2nd MAR Says "I Need To Change My Ticket" STILL RED HOT
great
The most accurate depiction of the 80’s people… grey and dull. This 80’s aesthetic of bright colours is fiction.
yes i agree they are both good versions but its also quality without the vocals!

I noticed that as well. Launched in 1984 from Gatwick then started 1991 Heathrow
You noticed a bus.....
Was actually filmed at Ascot Racecourse - so generic airport set. One of THE best adverts ever made and it won countless awards - deservedly so
Here Now didn’t know that. Thanks
It was actually at Sulum Voe in The Shetlands.
1:06 Is that Twiggy??
Virgin will probably be redoing this video with men wearing the skirts.
I need to change my job hahahahahha
Did Quentin Tarantino direct this?!
Sam Peckinpah. Explains all the red stuff.
What going to Dubai
PC Andy from Torchwood!
This is virgins old uniform no joke
Why does he say I need to change my ticket ?
If he already booked one!
He wasn't booked with virgin
This is cool, but can anyone tell me, why I'm searching for adverts on TH-cam? :/
at 1:09. That's your lot haha. Take it with a pinch of salt which is how it was meant to be taken.
Absolutely right.
The F.O. wasn't there, poor fellow
Where can I see a better quality version? Can not find it.
Fly Virgin Atlantic for the live version.
So do they provide extra services during the flight? Dressed like that I'm sure they do
Jack 'The Lad' Stevens hahahahaha. No.
Watching that dreadful new ‘woke’ advert instantly made me think of this masterpiece. Loved this back in the day and it still looks and sounds amazing now!
What's even funnier is that people complained about this one, claiming it was sexist.
Nowadays the pilot would be done more trafficking minors!😂😂 Brilliant ad.
