    Hello Sir~~~I did learn something~~I have a Pixie Bougainvillea as well ~~The Blooms are Hot Red~~I call her Red~~and she is now producing a large amount of leaves every where except the Apex~~I trimmed a few nodes back at the apex~~~ but only leaf production at the trunk and the first branch going up and stopping short at the apex....should I remove the lower leaves to perhaps stimulate growth at the apex??

    • @BonsaiIligan
      @BonsaiIligan  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Carol Dempsey I am not sure if I understand your question Carol. Normally the apex portion grow faster than any lower branches. If you want to stimulate growth, you need to fertilize enough. In my case I remove leaves at the bottom to stimulate growth of branches at the bottom to create taper. But I remove leaves at the trunk and I also remove sucker branches to thin out the canopy.

    • @TheJoy2yah
      @TheJoy2yah 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Bonsai Iligan The Red Blooming Bougie I asked you about has vastly improved when I removed the sucker at the bottom and pruned the apex back a bit~~~now Red is s show off~~~and her trunk is getting bigger ~~~and I followed your instruction to fertilize her as well~~~

    Thanks for sharing. Love all your videos. Keep it up! Which tree would you recommend for a first time bonsai planting in a tropical weather?

    • @BonsaiIligan
      @BonsaiIligan  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ruwikiwi Ficuses are the most forgiving specie. But there are many more such as bougainvilleas, fukien teas, and mind you it is a lot easier to make bonsai in tropical weather like ours compared to temperate climates. Our problem can be dehydration if you forget to water them though.

      +Bonsai Iligan hello, thank-you for taking the time to reply to me. Much appreciated. I think that for a start I will go for a bougainvilleas bonsai. Bougainvilleas thrive here in Mauritius. I can't wait to start that project and hopefully do more in the future. Have a nice week-end Sir!
