In just a couple of minutes you provided an excellent explanation of those two styles! The outfits were spot on too! You are doing a great job on this channel. :)
My favourite outfit here was the one at 10:26 with the cream label knit wool jumper, tweedy blazer, and black denim trousers. That one definitely felt more Ivy League than preppy. You clarified the difference for me, I was always a little iffy about the preppy style I’ve often been told I supposedly wear, but now I realise that what I actually wear is more natural and neutrals, absolutely Ivy League. Ironically, without even realising it, the few items I do have in bold colours are red or light blue! I used to think that’s what made it preppy! Now I know better. It also explains the “dark academia colour palette without the gothic aspect” that kept confusing me, and also includes the lighter shades and nature-boundness of light academia.
I like #6, the last outfit, the best. This is inspirational. I was a teenager in a college prep boarding school in the 1980's. I was a "preppy" as far as style & type of person, the way people would get defined & lumped together. Pink and green were big back then. Bob/pageboy haircuts. Simple, clean lines. Less is more. Like Coco Chanel said, take one thing off. Penny loafers, Polo shirts, pearls, plaid. Natural forest colors too. I never heard of Ivy style until recently. I've started going back to my roots now as a middle age Gen-Xer. I would go for the Ivy distinction now at my age. It's nice to look a bit more dignified as I'm getting older.
Thank you so much for this video. I have to put together a look like this for an important project that I am working on. This gave me plenty of good ideas.💯 Thank you so much again.
This style fits you like a glove ^^ Look nr 3 I would go for sheer polka dot stockings to go with the boots. Look nr 6 I would style with strappy open toed heels in sunny weather and boots or loafers with ankle socks in rainy weather. For the rest it's perfect, look nr 5 is my favourite ^^
Great video. I don't have a favourite outfit because they are all gorgeous. I adore your accent. "Plaid" is pronounced as plad not played. Plaid like bad, glad had. Yes, I would love to see videos on academia as well as the Coastal Grandma look.
I found this Brook Brothers briefcase at the thrift shop but I didn't buy because I locked the flap in (it was unlocked at first but it didn't have a key so its prob locked forever) 😭😭
i live a few blocks from Harvard Square, and this style no longer exists here as the majority of the students look pretty grungy wearing jeans, tea shirts, Harvard sweats, etc. i think that you ivy league style is Harvard around 1965. Of course, the style itself does mimic what you see displayed at J Press and the Andover Shop in Harvard Square.
U beautiful and very nice video! In the beginning I d suggest to go slower with the explanation and images because the examples u showed are just perfect as your explanation. Top! Thanks for sharing xx
As far as I know, the preppy style has intersected with y2k style and created a sexy looking preppy that is no longer as discreet as before like a plaid skirt instead of a shirt and tie, combined with a crop top and shoulder bag. ... and Koreans call the intersection of these two styles "High Teen" because the queen bee used to wear them in American school movies in the 2000s and now from "High Teen" has spread. it's viral and it's very popular in Asia and the fact that many people call it High Teen instead of Preppy annoys me because Koreans changed the fashion term and made it misleading, as far as I know. your western country doesn't know the phrase "High Teen"?? Preppy even if it's crossed with Y2k, is it still called Preppy??? .If my thinking is correct, what do you think about this issue????
Hi darling! Every style has its ups and downs in terms of popularity, and when a style is revived by the younger generations they always incorporate newer elements and transform it in some way. The same thing happened with the Preppy Style and the Ivy League style, as I said in the video, the Preppy Style is a modernized and more youthful version of the Ivy League Style, and I think the current version of the Preppy Style or "High Teen" as you call it is just that, a modernized version of the Preppy Style, but I wouldn't particularly say they're the same. Because like you said the current version is sexier and has a lot of inspiration in the Y2K style, which is not necessarily the core aesthetic of the 80s and 90s preppy. But this is just my personal opinion. Hope it helped!
@@SilvinaGaiero so I agree with you. Although preppy is associated with Y2K by young people, its essence is still Preppy. HOWEVER, WHAT I WANT TO SAY IS THAT KOREANS HAVE CALLED THE CROSS BETWEEN PREPPY and Y2k BY THE NẢME "Highteen". BUT IN ESSENCE, IT IS STILL BEACUSE THE Korean way of calling "HighTeen" makes Asians unaware of the word Preppy, even encountering Preppy costumes in the 80s and 90s, some people also call them "HighTeen". . What DO YOU ThINK about Koreans deliberately changing the term fashion
@@Hungng2468 Oh I didn't understand what you meant then lol I mean people can call it whatever they want but for me, Preppy will always be Preppy, it was born that way..
I laugh. Because what becomes a style was a standard for dress because that was what WE wore. Weejuns, cords, levis, button downs, ballet flats and pleats. Cardis, crews and v necks, patch pockets. Now the fashion trend becomes a thing and fashions repeat themselves. Thirty years from now you will be wearing exactly what you have on now. 😒😌😁
