22kt TOO SOFT??

  • I wanted to give my opinion on the higher purity chains. Most people believe it's too soft for wear. It really comes down to how you wear your jewelry. For me, 22kt isn't too soft but I don't wear it all the time. The beauty of 22kt gold and weight is to hard to pass up.

    I have worked as a gold broker, design creator, and jewelry seller of 23k gold in Thailand for the past 10 years and fully agree with the information you have provided your viewers. As your subscriber, I have always respected your straightforwardness in your assessment of various gold products even though you don't sell them. I would like to add some additional info about the softness issue. A part of the hardness potential of 22k and 23k gold is the annealing process used. This can be researched. In Thailand, the standard gold purity for chains worn every day is 96.5% slight over 23k. Not only have I found it to be very durable but an excellent store of value which is the main reason for the purity in the first place. 22/23k gold is usually handmade vs machine made. The downside to 22/23k gold, as you stated, is it shows surface imperfections easily and scratches easily (especially rings) and is not right for the customer looking for a "perfect" finish. Of course, many or most chains have such elaborate detail the surface imperfections are completely muted. The great thing about your product in either 14k or 18k is the strength of the added alloy which allows the customer to wear it 24/7 and yet it still has a significant gold value of 58% for 14k and 75% for 18k. The finish on your chains and bracelets is perfect due to the ease of final finishing unlike the more difficult to finish 22/23k gold. I just want to thank you for your solid information on gold purity because there is much incorrect information on the Internet. Your jewelry, in my view, is the best product for the majority of customers who want the best of both worlds...entry price, store of value and increased strength.

      Love this comment. Thank you for your input. Very good point regarding the detail and finish on higher purity gold jewelry. Definitely does hide any imperfections it may have.

    As a South Asian, the idea of going for anything below 22k is UNHEARD of. Like let me put it this way, a friend bought a cartier bracelet and everyone was SHOCKED, not because of the price, but because she would even put on something that was 18K. anything below 22K isn’t even considered gold in my culture.

    I buy something I would wear everyday. 10 14 18k i would wear everyday. 22k and 24k to me are investments if you can get it for a good price. But knowing myself 22k is definitely not a daily wear.

    24K gold is (NOT) too soft. I'm the proud owner of a 24K Mene bracelet. I've had it for a year now and hardly ever take it off. I sleep, clean, and shower with it daily. In other places in the world like Asia India, etc, kids are given 22k and 24k gold chains as gifts. If kids can grow into adulthood wearing said chains, that should tell you something. The only reason why Americans believe 10k and 14k are the way to go is because that is the bullshit we have been fed. The (real) reason places claim 24k is too soft is because it costs more. They sell 10k and 14k because it's cheaper, for them, they make bank off you. Mene's clasps are 18k, but the rest of their chains are 24k gold. I have had zero problems with it. In my opinion, 10k gold is junk. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of 14k, either. 18k and up is the way to go. You have to be mindful of where you shop, I would recommend Mene and Hawaii Rope Chains for gold pieces.

    in asia no one cares for 14k to 20k gold. either 22k or 24k or don't buy at all. beside since you gonna spend $$ to buy gold jewellery, why short change yourself right

  • @bombazine2

    I like 24k for a chain, i have a custom made classic Chinese style at 250g with a Buddha pendant and its the bomb. I wear a platinum chain (200g with 1 oz platinum pamp pendant) for daily use as it attracts no attention as people think its silver. If you have the spare cash its a good buy as its an investment that you can wear

    • @therealcoolc
      @therealcoolc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Where can I get a heavy platinum chain without a ridiculous mark up on it? There seems to be about a 200-300% premium on platinum jewelry everywhere I have seen. If I could get a heavy platinum chain (100g+) for the same premium as a gold chain, I might go for that instead.

    Gold & silver have a purity .999 up 5×9's 24k . gold & silver are brother sister , copper & zinc are far way cousins. They r all soft in pure form. Jewellery in 999 is medium hard & will scratch super easy.

    I like anything from 14k to 23k personally. I have 18k on my two tone Rolex. Looking for a 22k necklace chain, but prefer 14k on my rings for extra durability. My 14k deco ring already gets scratched enough as it is and glad it isn’t higher than 14k. 10k is a joke and would only wear it if it was a gift to me or handed down from a family member.
