    "ruining my gas mileage but I don't care". Yep that's me too. ;)
    When you engage center diff lock, it's doing a little more than you think. Here's a summary of all the electronic aids.
    ABS - We all know what this does. Pulses the brakes on the corners with lowest traction to keep all tires turning (to prevent lockup and allow some steering control during panic braking).
    VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) detects when yaw rotation rate doesn't match what it should be for the current speed and steering angle, and uses ABS system to apply brakes to individual wheels to try to prevent excessive oversteer/understeer. (e.g. if oversteering left, it brakes tires on right, and vise versa). Works both while accelerating and braking.
    Traction control - Cuts the throttle when it detects one or more wheels spinning faster than any other.
    ATRAC - applies brakes to individual wheels that are spinning faster than the one on the opposite side of the open front or rear diff, transferring power from the tire that is spinning (presumably without traction to the tire that has grip).
    Normally all these aids are on at once, and if you get any asymmetrical wheelspin, the first thing you notice is traction control cutting power. If you manage to spin all four tires at once (fooling traction control), and then get the vehicle to rotate without a steering input to match, then VSC will kick in to prevent oversteer, understeer. But then as soon as it activates and brakes at one or more corners, traction control will also cut the throttle, killing all the fun. This is why people often associate VSC with traction control, but they really have two different goals.
    Locking the center diff, disables VSC and Traction control, but leaves ABS and ATRAC enabled.
    This makes it possible to drift in snow, and for ATRAC to do its job while crawling offroad (otherwise it fights with traction control). If you do continuous tight donuts in the snow in 1st or 2nd gear, eventually there will be enough difference in speed between one of the tires on the left and right (due to open front/rear diffs), that ATRAC will kick in, but it doesn't really stop the fun. ATRAC works best for crawling in 4LO where the highest torque can be transferred through each diff to the high traction side, during the brief moments that ATRAC is braking the spinning low traction side.
    It's possible to fool it into disabling VSC and Traction control by simply turning on the circuit that also turns on center diff lock light, and there are threads detailing ways to do that. Because the center diff in the full time AWD system (used in the V8) has a bit of a rear bias (I've heard 40/60 or 35/65 f/r), disabling VSC and traction control while keeping the center diff unlocked has some handling benefits, although it's a bit more noticeable during high speed dirt road driving rather than in snow where you're more likely to just be spinning all four at once.

    I bought an 06 4Runner a few months ago, It only has around 65,000 miles right now. It's a Sport Ed and I put Biltsteins on it. I bought Blizzaks tonight online to keep it safe this winter.Of course, it has 4WD, but it's the 6

      @vegeta12379 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you like it so far?

    • @tigergreg8
      @tigergreg8 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m really enjoying it. I had a Legacy and that was great all year round , but I wanted an extremely reliable SUV, so when I saw this low mileage I took it. The Blizzaks are an amazing tire. The grip and stability I’m really enjoying.
      If your thinking about the truck or the tires , you will not go wrong either way. Btw, maintenance such as oil changed , plugs etc on this truck is so easy and simple.

    @ J_mosk I bought a 2007 Toyota 4runner limited 4.7 V8 almost identical to this one I put the same exact tires on mine although I don't have the lift. You inspired me to get one of these. Needless to say I cant wait for a snowstorm here in Pa :)

      TheSteelcitysfinest congrats on the new truck! How many miles on it? You got the KO2’s in 275/70r17? Do the tires rub without the lift? Mine were rubbing with the lift but it was an easy fix. What are you plans for future mods?

    • @TheSteelcitysfinest
      @TheSteelcitysfinest 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks a lot. I got it with 190000 on it got it for 6 grand. The body is in excellent shape. The tires are 265 60 18. No rubbing. However the rear end feels a little suspect when riding over bumps. I’m going to get a remote starter for it for now but nothing else I can think of. Looking forward to more of your videos. I’m going to try to make one if we get some heavy snow though

    Center diff lock only send 50/50 power to front and rear axle. It does not lock all 4 wheels like a real locker does.

    • @davidlcb
      @davidlcb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It is a real locker, just a center lock that will make sure theres 50/50 torque going to front and back, in-order to achieve 25% each wheel all the time, one will need a front, center and rear.

    Great vid, but it annoyed me how you kept blowing the stop signs in the parking lot. Traffic laws apply in parking lots and an officer CAN ticket you for running them. The whole "traffic laws don't apply on Punic property" thing, applies to ranches, and residents, stuff like that. But parking lots, gated communities, etc, you can still get a ticket. But great vid 👍🏻
