    TOBAGO - Welcome to the beautiful island of Tobago! Today we are beginning with a breadfruit roast on the beach with some amazing grilled fish and fish broth. Then we’re getting a full lesson on traditional dirt oven baking in Tobago. Next you can’t miss crab and dumplings when you’re in Tobago, and finally we’re finishing with a few street food favorites. Tobago is so beautiful, people are laid back, and the food culture is so tasty!
    Big thank you to #visitTrinidad and Visit Tobago (www.visittobago.gov.tt/) for inviting me to Trinidad and Tobago and for making this trip happen! Guide to the things and food in this video:
    Castara, Tobago - We’re beginning this food tour today on the beach with a fish and breadfruit roast. This is something I truly love, being connected with nature, cooking over fire, and seeing the entire process before eating. The breadfruits were some of the best I’ve ever had and the fish was marinated and grilled. The fish broth was also spectacular. What a way to begin.
    Backyard Dirt Oven - Next up we met up with Ms Moore & Wendell for a backyard dirt oven experience. Dirt oven baking is something that’s traditional in Tobago and they are keeping the tradition alive. I especially loved the garlic bread and pumpkin bread with cheese.
    Miss Trim's Kitchen (goo.gl/maps/XspFWniJz9hVCojaA) - It there’s one dish that’s the most famous and a dish you can’t leave Tobago without eating, it’s crab and dumplings. The crab is curried and the dumplings are hearty and doughy. The combination is delicious!
    Block 22 - Finally to complete this Tobago food tour we tried the fried chicken sandwich wat Block 22 - one of the late night staples.

      Evidently, the people who go through the Trinidad and Tobago Tourist Board are given the names of certain locals to use as "guides and those locals have biases that are reflected in the depictions. As you notice, yes doubles and roti are popular but there are also lots of popular non Indian influenced "street food" as shown in this video. th-cam.com/video/O80M3hvB_l4/w-d-xo.html

    As an American, I never knew that Trinidad and Tobago is such a beautiful place. The people, the food and of course the island are spot on! It is refreshing to see how other cultures live. What I noticed is that I have not seen fast food restaurants doting the landscape. This is good as it takes away from the beauty of the island and the waters.

      The local communities mostly take the form of ‘villages which are long secondary and tertiary roads with dwellings constructed on either side, then villages converge towards towns/centers/commercial hubs and that is where the American fast food outlets exist; and while they are patronized considerably, most people prefer to dine at the local food establishments for superior variety, flavors and cost-effectiveness…main roads link all the towns together across the island, and they too are dotted on either side with homes and businesses (concentrated more in closer proximity to the towns and lesser as you travel further away)…

    Trini food will always be crazy due to all of the Asian and African influences. Chili crab just like in Singapore but with dumpling instead of mantou. East African fish stew etc. Trinidad is kind of like a melting pot of the Caribbean similar to Singapore in Asia. Also, the Indian and Chinese influences are a solid foundation of the food. You can never go wrong with food in Trinidad, just from their history, high standards and artistry in the kitchen. It is my #1 cuisine in the world as a Filipino American (Trini, Sri Lankan, Thai, Malaysian, Jamaican are my top 5, dead or alive. 😂). Yes, I will have Italian, Mexican and American Soul Food once in awhile, but my Top 5 are the serious contenders as they have the spice, curries, delicious carbs (bara, festival, noodles, coconut rice) and combined with some mango juice or coconut water put me in a tropical state of mind.

    • @alanaramdeen7719
      @alanaramdeen7719 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      As a trini I've tried and loved sri lankan and thai food but covid messed up my chance to experience Singaporean and Malaysian food 🙃 but it's still on my bucket list!!! All those spices! I want to taste them 😋

    • @kayflip2233
      @kayflip2233 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alanaramdeen7719 Yes, you can taste the similarities between Trini, Sri Lankan and Thai right? Nice and light curries unlike most Indian curries which are heavy with butter or yogurt. Balance between spicy, citrusy, and sweet with some type of carb (bara, roti, noodles, egg hoppers etc). Makes you feel like you're on a tropical island, that's what I like. Not just for the taste but to take me back to good times.

Then the breads looked so good. Both mother and son a family affair. I liked Miss Tims her way of cooking curry crab and dumplings looked so good, plus you had blue crab. No cracking!!!
