These birds have it all. They're pretty, they sound pleasant, they are extremely useful predators of pests and insects, they nest in hollow trees, and generally hurt nothing and nobody. I bet a Hoopoe nest would be fun to watch! But I wouldn't want to be the one that had to band the chicks.

I love hoopoes. I had seen lots of hoopoes in my childhood. They also featured a lot in the bed time stories of my mother. Whenever I see hoopoes I reminisce my childhood life in Bhutan and miss my dear mother a lot.

I’ve only heard of this bird in ancient literature. I came to see what is the big deal that makes it king bird in more than one story. It’s a nice enough bird, but that mystery will still haunt me. It’s good to be haunted by mysteries though. It means you have respect for how small and dumb you are. ❤

This is a very cool bird. I am sure it, or an extinct subspecies of Hoopoe, was the inspiration for the Egyptian Was Scepter. The 'Was' is one of the three power symbols of ancient Egypt.

If they poop sitting on a rock ... The rock will melts slowly in some days .. This is why in my place we treated them as a good medicine for kidney stone patient. Although not scientifically proven but it helps by dissolving the kidney stones of the patients.

This beautiful bird was a part of prophet Solomon سلیمان علیہ سلام army and it's duty was to find water for the armies of prophet سلیمان علیہ سلام Solomon armies and deliver letters. Where ever armies land the hoopoe would be ordered to find water for them, it used to hover over the point beneath where there is water and prophet سلیمان علیہ سلام used to order Jinns/Jenni to dig a well. Details are written in Quran this Islamic Book please.

Not all this information is correct. My name, Huppatz is a derivative of the hoopoe’s name. It is Wendish and the Wends of Europe considered the hoopoe to be of benefit to their farmlands.
