Having done a fair share of fixed wing endurance design myself, the fact that you are able to get two and a half hours of flight time with payload ON A VTOL is absolutely remarkable. That speaks volumes about your aeronautical design skills.
they're not getting anywhere near 2.5 hrs of flight time, ok? That's marketing. My best guess, based off design and claims, and basically lacking all other manner of data required to make an educated guess: a flight time around 60-70 minutes. I'd really like to know more about the mapping capabilities of the thing. Making something that flies well,. carries required payload, is cool...but only useful if integrated with the right software, UI, options, etc.
2.5 hours is crazy talk. I don't know what he means by "with payload" but you are not carrying a NextVision Raptor (which masses 640g) along with a datalink capable of streaming a reasonable distance and flying for 2.5 hours on a VTOL platform that is lugging around four motors of dead weight the whole time. MAYBE if by "payload" you mean an FPV camera and a micro-sized analog VTX, and your flying conditions are absolutely perfect, I could see it be done, but consider that a competing product (Quantum Systems Vector) manages an advertised 3 hours with the exact same gimbal while being significantly larger, I'm skeptical. Another competing product, the WingraOne, can only fly for 60 minutes...
You've really positioned yourself well with this new design Kevin! I can see this going very far. Such a innovative platform. Congrats man, this is one to be proud of no doubt
Heyy, more Think Flight! I'm excited. Also, please consider turning off automatic translations for title and description. TH-cam likes to translate an early title you selected and stick with it. The german title I am seeing is "Think Flight Polierte Bearbeitung 2" or "think flight polished edit 2", which you can imagine is not very clickable. TH-cam doesn't allow one to specify one is bilingual to see both english and german untranslated unfortunately.
@Gulliolm it is most likely a WIP title from before uploading the video that TH-cam picks and translates. It doesn't update if the English title is updated.
French title also needs rework, it's half translated to what would be "Think about voler poli version #2" in english. If it doesn't make sense to you that's normal. I had to use an alternate YT client to get what the real title was. Very distracting. Almost unsubscribed thinking channel was compromised.
If you turn your account language on TH-cam to english you won't get the auto-translated titles at all. It sometimes needs resetting as youtube seems to reset your settings regularly.
I'd love to see a design deep dive here. How do the wings lock in place? What software are you running? If it's ardupilot, how did you make it handle the QR code landing and how do you present a polished user interface instead of mission planner? How did you go about the structural vibration analysis and how can I prevent running into this myself? I realize you may not be willing to share all of this as it's a comercial product, but I do believe positioning yourself as an open and transparent company may get you the customers hesitant to choose a DJI or similar. Also, I'm just really curious to get a glimpse into a part of the advanced RC aircraft world one usually doesn't get to see. Lastly, will the unstable flying wing project continue? I must have rewatched the original videos on it like five times and I'll most likely end up building one myself, so I'd love to see this continued.
Glad to see Think Flight has been cooking while away from youtube. I was getting worried. Currently building out a flik wing and looking forward to a maiden 👌
Probably never. The military has enough of this stuff, it they wanted something new they would go with an existing supplier that has experience making robust designs.
Looks great! Very interesting to learn about the technical details as well. Also FYI, the beginning of the video on the landing page of the website seems a bit compressed.
Not sure if I missed this but does it charge its self in side the box? It you have to open the box raise the platform, lift the drone, turn it up side down, swap out a battery, ect ect you might as well not have the fancy box. There a video out , think it is a collage that built a charging in to the feet of the drone. I don't think it was a fast charge
4:35 “what if one of the tip motors fails? that is a fair question.” Which you go on to give absolutely no answer to other than sighting it’s safe. So what does happen to one of those tip motors goes out? Catastrophic loss??
Why does the box's lid have mechanized hinges but the vertical lift motors don't? The lifting system is just drag and mass in forward flight. Perhaps you can reallocate engineering resources from the box to the actual aircraft? Right now it's essentially just a fixed wing plane with a quad grafted to it as a separate system.
I've been working on something like this for a while now, but with a tailsitter 2-rotor. I want a box i can toss in the back of the car and be able to launch in 30 secs or less. Ideally I want to maintain the batteries from outside the box without opening it. \
im pretty sad you didn't mention the engineers at Vought for that trick with the wing tip engines, also interesting how much you skipped on the box launching aspects. I know this is for profit and stuff but theres a lot of stuff going on here and its really only obvious to folks who are interested in drones and aerodynamics
I fully support where you're going with this, but man, I miss the videos where you were building, experimenting, and just playing around with various projects. Not really interested in commercials.
In light of current events, what armaments is it capable of carrying? PS: i didnt see any notice about this video being, not just containing a commercial. Ive noe unsubscribed.
Great to see what you've been up to! One tip: stress the 'linG' at the end of StarLinG... Speaking as one of the 92% of the earth's population who do NOT like literal Nazis, differentiating yourselves from starlinK is going to be helpful at the margins going forward 🙃
LOL No. That's where manufacturers go ruin their reputation. Ask any of the big established western players in drones how well their ventures there went.

Haha the website even says three hours .
The drone startup space has truly lacked someone that actually "gets it" as much as Kavin does. Excited to see where this impressive platform goes
the first thing I thought of after seeing this was your folding fixed wing quadcopter thing lol
You've really positioned yourself well with this new design Kevin! I can see this going very far. Such a innovative platform. Congrats man, this is one to be proud of no doubt
Man! you've out done yourself with this design- it's a sure winner -bravo!
Excellent, as long as its used for good (search and rescue etc), not evil - surveillance state etc.
It's ok I'm sure President MUSK wouldn't do anything ILLEGAL if he requisitioned these for "Community good".
It's good when something that is designed to tight requirements gets made as you want and expect it. Great work.
Trying to get acquired by Anduril?
I have missed watching your content, and once again you haven't disappointed.

I agree. I also got the stupid german title that doesn't make a lot of sense

@@generic13372 I would expect that all my german video titles become english. I watch in both languages, which TH-cam seems to think is impossible.

For QR code its just a companion computer running ROS. I assume the software is PX4 because ardupilot license does not allow for non-public forks
@@loleklolkowski8567 GPL3 only requires sharing source code with your customers not the general public.
ooooh how nice, you must come show and tell on a Tuesday!

The is something new, wow.
Love that you experiments with non traditional rc airplanes evolved to cool product
Great to see the result of your (and the teams) efforts - Amazingly Impressive!

As an owner of two HEQ vtol drones this looks really cool. Nice job.
I was just thinking you had been quiet lately. Glad it was a good quiet. Also wow.
Thanks for the insight into the design process! Still curious about the folding wing and tail boom mechanisms
Military contract when?

That is a cool set of requirements. Please elaborate. Why does it need to fit in this size of a box?
Massively cool! Must have been fun to be involved in this project.
Congratulations - it's very impressive indeed!

Looks good. Are you using gyro on it.
This is the greatest drone I seen this year. Really impressive. What is the weight? I really like the quick battery swap, super cool😎
The year is young :)
Looks great and performance sounds very interesting
02:28 is that Citroen Van? Not in the North America then.
Fantastic looking product! Are you all going to be at AUVSI with the Starling this year?
This project is really turned out nicely.
I have one question, are there spars in the wings that retract?
That is Frigin cool!
aruco marker landing! love it!
Is that a nextvison raptor camera? 🤔
Would like to see this with a LiDAR payload. How do you handle DAA for BVLOS flights under Part 107?
4:35 “what if one of the tip motors fails? that is a fair question.” Which you go on to give absolutely no answer to other than sighting it’s safe. So what does happen to one of those tip motors goes out? Catastrophic loss??
likely initiates a vtol transition and tries to returns as a quad
Very cool project would love to see more; sadly the website has no content yet; missed opportunity.
How does the battery swapping work?
Dropper attachments?
why put it in an auto-deploy box though?
Woah, nice idea :)
1:25 I'm Australian so my English is average. What is he saying?
bro casually makes a military worthy drone for fun

cool. well you have total of 6 propellers as redundancy, if you lose the forward propellers, you can still drone.

Very nice ! Incredible work
Can we get Justin Timberlake to put together a fun theme song for this drone in a box?
I was in awe and then it hit that this will be used by governments to do bad things to people, so that's fun
Why isnt this marked as an ad?
Because it's not for sale, yet

yes drones discovered the wing. about time. now discover the wing shaped dirigible with use of hydrogen not helium...
