    It's funny, though, that Ike's most precious move, Aether, is a common critical attack from basic Mercenary from previous games.

    • @OrangeKyle91
      @OrangeKyle91 10 ปีที่แล้ว +71

      I think that's intentional because Ike is himself a mercenary, although his class goes by a different name.

    • @MalzraAirwynn
      @MalzraAirwynn 10 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      OrangeKyle91 Yeah, and he goes through a lot of classes between the two games. Ranger > Lord in PoR. But then in RD he's no longer a lord, and is instead a 'Hero' and promotes to 'Vanguard.'

    • @OrangeKyle91
      @OrangeKyle91 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yeah, I know. But overall, the role he plays on the battlefield is the same as the role played by a Merc/Hero in the GBA games as well as FE: Awakening.

  • @AlistairIRL
    @AlistairIRL 10 ปีที่แล้ว +61

    Ike's up-throw, dude. He sheaths his sword in the ground like his taunt, but this throw's even more like his sister's win animation, because he follows it up by punching his fist in the air exactly like how his sister does. Ike hits somebody with it, though.

    Ike's games also had the Laguz using unarmed attacks, specifically punches and kicks when not transformed. Which is probably reasoning for the jab and kick in Ike's AAA combo (the only non sword based attacks Roy and Marth have is their grab attack since no one fights unarmed in their games).

    One thing I noticed that you might have missed. When Ike does his final smash he releases a wave or energy that goes way beyond the length of his sword. I was thinking that might be a reference to how Ragnel could attack with a long ranged energy attack in PoR and RD

  • @kayoyoh6725

    The Astra/Great Aether comparison seems like too much of a stretch to me, and some of these might be reading a bit much into Smash Bros and not giving the devs enough credit, but on the whole, this is a great analysis/comparison. Nice work.

    • @jessetimm3364
      @jessetimm3364 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ZetaNiGHT I know I'm sooooooo late to this party, but . . .
      I slowed the video waaaaaaayyyyy down and counted each individual hit of Great Aether. If you count the "trap" hit (where he sends the opponent into the air) and the "finisher", there are exactly 15 hits to Great Aether. Astra being a 5 hit attack, multiplied by the number of skills incorporated into the attack (3) would give us 15. Possibly a stretch, but what are the odds that they just randomly decided on exactly 15 hits?

    I can only imagine some people who have ike at the head of thier spotpass party and get by soley on keeping him alive while he slowly tears down people with a brave sword and a powerful throwing axe. It's very easy to abuse that kind of power. It almost makes the versus challenges, spotpass or otherwise, pointless. fire emblem is a great series to play, if you are willing to put some time and effort into it. fire emblem, in my opinion, has two features that are unique to the series: the storyline and music. the gameplay is simple: eat or be eaten. @SobmicSSBB: I have news about Ike's moves history, please read this: In the full intro video of Fire Emblem POR (1:25), one of Ike's counter attack against Greil has a striking resemble to Ike's smash attack in brawl.
    Also, based on what I read before on the internet, Great Aether is suppose to be a reference to Ike's final attack to Ashera in Fire Emblem RD. The only problem is, the flame surrounding Ike is blue in Fire Emblem, instead of Red as in Brawl. But anyway you had explained it.

  • @MrNemitri

    The only move missing from Ike's arsenal is the fact that Ragnell can project an energy wave to attack from a range of 1-2, they should have given Ike a slow but kind of strong projectile to represent that. Also the most powerful fire spell is not bolganone, its rexflame, the spell was dummied out, you need a hack software to actually use it (FE 9, is found in FE 10 actually)

    Ike makes up for his lack of speed with his attack power, sturdiness and attack range. If you hit him, he wont move. If he hits you, it'll hurt. You can throw people off guard by hitting them with your sword while they're out of range. His counter if perfect for power weapons or attacks like Falcon Punch or Homerun Bat and his lunge attack is perfect for staying in the fight longer than your opponent expects. WE LIKE IKE!

    There are three Lord archetypes established in the Fire Emblem series: light, medium, and heavy. A good example of all three is in Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (Simply "Fire Emblem" outside of Japan). Lyn is a light Lord (high speed and skill, but low defense and HP), Eliwood is medium (relatively balanced stats), and Hector is heavy (high strength and defense, but low speed and skill). Marth actually falls into the light archetype.

    It's not that he's slow, it's the sheer wirght of Ragnell. Look up how heavy it is in hame. WAY heaver than the master sword link uses. In fact, when you get it early on, Ike tends to 1 hit enemies due to the speed loss from the weight.

    In path of radiance, I somehow got Ike to learn Astra, the 5-attack ability which all swordmasters could learn as an occult scroll.

    Evan Quintana You'd be surprised how detailed an inspired many of the attacks are in the series. Pretty much every frame of Mr Game & Watch and Megaman comes from something. Marth has sword swipes distinctly similar to characters from the SNES Fire Emblem games. Ganondorf even has a forward aerial based on a scene from the Ocarina of Time manga! Clearly not every attack in the game can be based on something we've seen the character do before but a startling number of them really are.

    I do agree that a magic unit would be pretty cool in Smash Bros. though. Soren is probably the most iconic FE mage to date, though with the Tellius series being long over, I think an Awakening unit is much more likely. I hope Fire Emblem is well represented in the next game with at least several cool units to use.

    maybe in terms of fighting in free for alls, or team matches. Believe me, I am addicted with playing ike in team matches online with random people and simply overpowering people while my partner is more or less the faster fighter or projectile user. Yet it can take some patience when fighting good players one on one as him

    In Fire Emblem Heroes, Ike's Ragnell allows him to counterattack regardless of range. Was it not the case in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn?

      Ragnell would only trigger at close range in those games.

      @@GMKGoji01 I just realized I made a mistake. I mixed up Ragnell and Aether.
      Ragnell can attack from close and far range (which is why it's baffling to me that Ike doesn't have a ranged attack in Smash).
      His special move Aether only works at close range.

    @Fleonified In English grammar, "an" is used instead of "a" as an article when the following word starts with a consonant sound, not necessarily a consonant letter. This is why examples such as "an universe" do not work and are improper.
    @fishwizzy1 Words like "heir" require that the preceding indefinite article be "an" instead of "a". The word does not have to start with a vowel to abide to this rule. There are also no words starting with "Y" that have a vowel sound, so that is irrelevant.

    Daaaaang this must have been hard to find out. Great job on this video and on all the other ones =).
    By the way, I am not 100% sure, but chances are Ike and possibly Marth won't be in the next SS. THey were in this one because they were in the most 3 recent games that have come out and they usually use them as advertisement. I dunno why they used Roy instead of Eliwood in melee, but he was probably there to advertise his game, although I dunno why Marth would be there...to look like Ike XD?

    About that last section. (the four hits and finish combo) I think it looks like it would work more for his side B. (Which is, too say, a Four or so hit combo when timed correctly)
    Nice work, I was actually wondering how they got a Combat style from a Grid RPG character...

    I am a big fan of Fire Emblem and a big fan of the Tellius games (FE:PoR and FE:RD), but I never made all these connects. Even if they all aren't right, it's still seems pretty spot on for the most part! Oh yeah, now that I think about it...in Smash bros Ike says, "You'll get sympathy from me", but he never says that in his game...everyone else does in some shape or form! :3
