Honest question from an American in New Mexico, USA: What is the advantage of allowing tourists to approach and touch the horses? It often looks like harassment, and sometimes looks like abuse. The tourists should be kept back from both the Guards and the horses out of safety and awareness of the dangers they can pose.
Unfortunately there's a jurisdictional issue at the gate. Inside of the courtyard is Ministry of Defence property and the pavement outside is public and falls under the jurisdiction of the local council. The council is more concerned with keeping tourist revenue flowing through their borough than with the welfare of the horses and the respect of our military. I think soon it will get to the point whereby the central government will over ride the local council on this matter because it's becoming unsafe for everyone due to the crowding. The sooner new rules are brought in and the tourists are kept at a distance the better as far as I'm concerned. People can still get a decent photo from a respectful distance. Unfortunately this decline in behaviour is getting worse. People used to behave respectfully here without having to be told to. 🇬🇧
@@Wulfyr Great comment Jamie! I agree that something absolutely needs to be done. It's turning into a circus, with the rise of disrespectful people. It's too bad really!
@@Wulfyr Agree with everything you have said! I get hopping mad watching the total ignorance and bad manners of all the tourists no matter which country they come from. I think if you can find barriers for the London Marathon I think they can do the same for the safety of the guards and horses. It isn't rocket science with all of the threats posed in the world now it should be a given that there needs to be less people present outside and inside. Most parts of this country do not allow three people or more to gather in one place, not here of course because money means more than the safety of these troopers and their horses. I believe nothing will be done unless something really tragic happens and then it will be too late for whoever this tragedy happens too. Unfortunately this country is well know for shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, a saying very apt for this subject I think. meaning they never forward think, which has led to many bad things happening which could have been completely avoided.
Terrific video of that big beauty with the amazing face, Abdullah. Perfect shout by the Met Police officer. Sounded like some of the best guards shouts. ❤❤love it.
The Guards need to be MORE aware of tourist that try to give the horses something to eat. Too easy for someone to slip something to the horse. WAKE UP GUARDS, BE WATCHFUL OF THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS!!
It’s great that you can get your picture taken beside the horses but I don’t think it’s good that the public are allowed to touch the horses. Also, when getting pictures taken why point at the horse? Surely they are big enough to see.
Good to see the young woman @ 6:25 telling the woman in green to get a move on as she'd already had a turn standing next to the horse earlier on in the vid. ✔
The old battleax was very rude. Saw nothing wrong with taking her time when lots of people were waiting. The sense of entitlement some people have is astounding.
@@cb3844 She asked both the stableman, in camo, and then the mounted trooper before offering the mint to the horse and she also thanked the trooper as she turned to leave.
People are so clueless, there are people trying to get a picture and he just stands there petting the horse, instead of waiting his turn, and the guy with the girl who pushed the very patient black guy out of the way is a total jerk!
Its hard for the Guard to see the front of horses mouth. With so many rubbing the horses nose and putting thier hand in horses mouth. They could put another sign that says don't touch the horses face or keep hand away from its mouth , but just like don't touch the reins it would be totally ignored. Crazy tourist is gonna do what they want anyway
Why do tourists think it is ok to put their hand up to the horses mouth with something to eat? Does it not enter their thick brains to speak to the guard first.
Obviously do not understand English BUT the shout should have been enough. So many tourist do not pay attention to their surroundings. Should not travel to countries they have no knowledge of language.
They are feeding the horse it could be anything needs a barrier were the bollards are so no over crowding the horse or guard and not annoying the horses and guard stressing them out I do not understand. Why the high ups have not suggested this on a perminant bases and onley thicket holders allbwed in the yard and parade ground. Stop that right of public to cut through
@margcraven2976 - They are on a public pavement in Whitehall under Westminster council not MOD so no barrier is possible also potentially dangerous to horse and Trooper . Horse Guards is traditionally the official entrance to St James palace across the courtyard and Parade ground and is a public right of way . The bollards are for security reasons to restrict unauthorised vehicles access and can be lowered or raised from inside the building .
I stopped watching this channel because it drove me mad seeing what the stupid tourists do to the horse. Why can’t the guard tell them them to stop touching the horse. I won’t be watching this again for some time because it just increases my blood pressure.

Only place in the WORLD where you can approach a military guard post and make physical contact with the guards and not be arrested or shot.

No touching or feeding the horse. I am finding that when I watch the videos they are becoming more soft on tourists.

Not me. Why would ever do something like that. Probably my parents would
The guard is not there to police peoples manners. They’re nominally adults and are supposedly able to do this for themselves,
